Pretty Mischievous Scratched From Breeders’ Cup Distaff, The Wine Steward Out Of Juvenile, Plus Additional Scratches For Friday And Saturday

The Breeders' Cup has released a number of scratches from its Friday and Saturday race series. Explanations for the scratches were not provided but we will add them as we learn more.

-Pretty Mischievous, who was 8-1 morning line odds for the Grade 1 Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff, had to be scratched from the race and will return to Kentucky.

Trainer Brendan Walsh told Breeders' Cup publicity that the Kentucky Oaks winner hasn't been up to her usual self.

“After traveling, she got a little bit colicky and we had to treat her the next day,” he said. “She's looked great on the track, but that's just her. She's been a little dull and not showing us what she usually does. I'm not running in a championship race if she's not 100 percent and, after the great season she's given us, she owes us nothing.”

Currently, the plan is for Pretty Mischievous to run next season.

She was most recently second in the G2 Cotillion and also won the G1 Acorn and G2 Rachel Alexandra last year. She is listed as the winner of the G1 Test after a fatal injury to Maple Leaf Mel caused the filly to fall and lose her rider strides before the wire of that race.

Walsh trains Pretty Mischievous for owner/breeder Godolphin. She is the daughter of Into Mischief and Tapit mare Pretty City Dancer.

-Bolshoi Ballet is out of the G1 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf, where he had been 15-1 with John Velazquez. The Aidan O'Brien trainee was coming off a win in the G1 Sword Dancer after a sixth in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot. The 5-year-old made an appearance in last year's Turf, where he was sixth behind winner Yibir.

He had been assigned post position four.

-The Wine Steward, who had been 8-1 for the G1 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile, is a scratch. He had been set to break from post one for trainer Mike Maker and was coming in with three career wins from four starts, including the Bashford Manor and Funny Cide Stakes. He was recently second in the G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

-Exaulted, 20-1 on the morning like for the G1 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile, has been scratched. Juan Hernandez had been aboard the Peter Eurton trainee. He had been assigned post 12.

-American Theorem, 30-1 for the G1 Qatar Racing Sprint, is out for trainer George Papaprodromou and jockey Umberto Rispoli. He had been assigned post three. The 6-year-old is winless this season, and came to the Sprint off a fifth in the G2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship S in late September.

-Grand Mo The First (20-1) is out of the G1 Prevagen Juvenile Turf. He came to the race for trainer Victor Barboza Jr. with jockey Hector Berrios and was set to break from post position 13. He has two wins from three career starts and was most recently third in the G3 Zuma Beach on Oct. 8.

Later on Friday, morning line favorite River Tiber was also scratched. The son of Wootton Bassett was one of the Aidan O'Brien shippers and had been coming in with a win in the G2 Coventry at Royal Ascot, and third-place finishes in the G1 Sumbe Prix Morny and G1 Juddmonte Middle Park. He'd had the second post position.

There is also one rider change in the race, as Ryan Moore will now be aboard Unquestionable.

-Alys Beach is out of the G1 NetJets Juvenile Fillies. She had been 30-1 morning line for Tom Amoss with Tyler Gaffalione and was set to break from post 13. After breaking her maiden this summer at Saratoga, she finished fourth in the G1 Spinaway and third in the G1 Alcibiades.

-G1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint runner Bradsell (5-1) is a scratch. Bradsell is a British shipper for trainer Archie Watson. Luke Morris had the call from post two. Bradsell is the winner of this year's G1 Kings Stand, and ran third in the G1 Nunthorpe.

Also-eligibles One Timer and Twilight Gleaming were also scratched. Beer Can Man, who was also an AE, moves into the field for Phil D'Amato with Flavien Prat. Beer Can Man has been off the board just once this season, with a win in the listed Jim McKay Turf Sprint and thirds in the G3 Green Flash and G2 Woodford coming this fall. He is owned by Little Red Feather Racing, Madaket Stables, and Sterling Stables.

-Givemethebeatboys (IRE) is a scratch from the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. He had been 15-1 and was part of the British/Irish shipping contingent for trainer Jessica Harrington. He was fourth in the G2 Coventry behind River Tiber, third behind him in the G1 Sumbe Prix Morny, and fourth behind the same rival in the G1 Juddmonte Middle Park at Newmarket in September. He had the fifth post position.

Also-eligibles Hedwig and April Vintage are scratched.

Asean, who had been an also-eligible, has drawn in for trainer Donnacha O'Brien and owners Commonwealth Thoroughbreds, Ocean Reef Racing, and William Campbell. Earlier this year, he won the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Irish E.B.F. Curragh Stakes, and was most recently tenth in the G3 Cornwallis at Newmarket. Gaffalione will be aboard.
