Frankel Filly A New Rising Star At Deauville

Leaving a deep impression on debut at Deauville on Thursday, the Wertheimers' Left Sea (GB) (Frankel {GB}–Left Hand {GB}, by Dubawi {Ire}) earned TDN Rising Star status with a five-length success in the Prix de la Reboursiere over a mile. A daughter of their G1 Prix Vermeille heroine from the family of Plumania (GB) (Anabaa), the Carlos Laffon-Parias trained bay was nobody's secret as the 8-5 favourite and was allowed to establish an instant lead by Maxime Guyon. Kicking in early straight, the homebred registered a penultimate sectional of 11.19 as she stretched to the impressive winning margin over the Freddy Head-trained Brandywine (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), with another 1 1/2 lengths back to Dschingis Grace (Fr) (Dschingis Secret {Ger}) in third. “She is a very nice filly and we always liked her,” Laffon-Parias commented. “She has confirmed what we have seen at home and is in all the major races, including the Fillies' Mile.” Video, sponsored by TVG.

The sire's second TDN Rising Star at the current Deauville August Festival after Kelina (Ire) and his 33rd in total, Left Sea is the second and currently last known foal out of the aforementioned Vermeille heroine and G1 Prix de Diane runner-up Left Hand, who is a daughter of the G2 Prix de Royallieu scorer Balladeuse (Fr) (Singspiel {Ire}). Balladeuse also produced the listed scorer Bilissie (GB) by Dansili (GB) and her full-sister Romanciere (Ire), who was placed on several occasions at group level including when third in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet.

The third dam Featherquest (GB) (Rainbow Quest) also threw the aforementioned Plumania, a past TDN Rising Star who went on to glory in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud before producing the G2 Prix du Muguet winner Plumatic (GB) from a mating with Left Hand's sire Dubawi. Other descendants of Featherquest, who is a half to the leading sire Groom Dancer, include Solsticia (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) who was third in the G1 Prix Saint Alary and Frankel's smart Rumi (Fr) who captured last year's G2 Prix de la Nonette and G3 Prix Vanteaux.

Uncle Mo Filly Professional In Saratoga Turf Unveiling

2nd-Saratoga, $105,000, Msw, 8-14, 2yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 1:43.18, fm, 1 3/4 lengths.
MOMA (f, 2, Uncle Mo–Discreet Moon {GB}, by Malibu Moon) muscled her way between horses like a seasoned runner to kick clear for conditioner Todd Pletcher and owner/breeders Wertheimer and Frere. Squeezed slightly at the break when rivals came in on her, she tracked contentedly from the rear of the field with only two others beaten going into the first turn. Saving ground as pacesetters put up :23.56 and :48.35 fractions up the backstretch, she cut the final corner into third as the field fanned out and took aim on the leaders. Splitting them effortlessly, Moma kicked clear and came home best by open lengths despite a slight bobble in the final yards. Root Cause (Into Mischief) came on well for second. Moma is out of a French-raced half to GISW Awesome Maria (Maria's Mon). She has a yearling half-sister Mooncurl (Curlin) and Discreet Moon visited Good Magic for 2023. The third dam is GI Alabama victress Pretty Discreet (Private Account), who produced GISW, track record-setter Discreet Cat (Forestry) and MGISP Pretty Wild (Wild Again). MGSP Courtesan (Street Sense) also makes an appearance beneath that third dam. “She really did have a nice kick turning for home. She didn't jump well, which actually worked to our benefit…I loved the way she kicked on in the last part,” said Pletcher post-race. “She'd been training well on dirt, but bottomed out a bit. She gave us a bit of a turf impression when we put her on the grass. It's pretty obvious she moved forward on it.” Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $57,750. Intello’s Junko Battles To Prix Noailles Success

Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's homebred 3-year-old gelding Junko (GB) (Intello {Ger}), who went untested as a juvenile, followed up an impressive score in his Feb. 24 debut at Chantilly with an equally taking triumph back at that track last month and continued on an upward trajectory by notching a career high on black-type bow in Sunday's G3 Prix Noailles at ParisLongchamp. Under restraint in a close-up second until scrubbed along off the home turn, the 17-10 favourite locked horns with the pacesetting Maximus (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) passing the quarter-mile marker and would not be denied under a late drive to deny that tenacious rival by a neck.

Junko is the third foal and scorer produced by GIII Regret S. and GIII Edgewood S. placegetter Lady Zuzu (Dynaformer), herself a half-sister to MGSW GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and GI Woodford Reserve Manhattan H. runner-up Optimizer (English Channel) and to the dam of stakes-winning GI Belmont Derby Invitational third Cellist (Big Blue Kitten). The April foaled-homebred bay is kin to a 2-year-old colt by Frankel (GB) and a weanling colt by Siyouni (Fr).
