Mandatory Payout Scheduled For Pick 5 Wager On Louisiana Cup Day

Louisiana Downs has received approval from the Louisiana State Racing Commission (LSRC) to offer a mandatory payout on their Pick 5 Wager, which will cover races three through seven on Louisiana Cup Day, Saturday, Aug. 21.

There will be carryover of $349,763 heading into Louisiana Cup Day. First post is 2:45 pm (Central) for the seven-race card which features six stakes for accredited Louisiana-breds with purses of $50,000 each.

The Pick 5, which is offered daily for a minimum wager of .50 cents, covers the following races:

Race 3 $50,000 Louisiana Cup Distaff

Race 4 $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile

Race 5 $50,000 Louisiana Cup Sprint

Race 6 $50,000 Louisiana Cup Turf Classic

Race 7 $50,000 Louisiana Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

“We approached the racing commission last week when the Pick 5 carryover began to grow,” said David Heitzmann, Louisiana Downs Director of Racing. “Louisiana Cup Day is an exceptional showcase for Louisiana Thoroughbreds and offers black-type purses for the breeders as well as excellent wagering opportunities for our horseplayers. We look forward to a great afternoon!”

Louisiana Downs track announcer John McGary and regional racing publicist Martha Claussen will conduct a free handicapping seminar at 1:00 pm in the Inside Rail, located on the first floor of the grandstand. They will offer analysis and their selections for each of the races and Pick 5 on the Louisiana Cup Day card.

In addition, contributing handicappers Rachel McLaughlin of Indiana Grand, NHC Hall of Fame champion Trey Stiles and Nick Tammaro, an eight-time NHC qualifier and morning-line oddsmaker, will share their Pick 5 tickets on Twitter.

XBTV Passes 1,000 Workout Milestone For 2021 Saratoga, Del Mar Meets

Barely one month into this summer's Saratoga and Del Mar meets, XBTV.com has already successfully captured, cataloged and uploaded more than 1,000 morning video workouts for racing's marquee meets. This milestone provides handicappers with 'behind the scenes' access to the nation's top horses and future stars and remains available without cost to 1/ST account holders.

“You can refer to published workouts and form assumptions based only on final time, but the opportunity to view the video and gain an understanding of how the drill was accomplished can turn an educated guess into a confident wager,” said Jeff Siegel, Xpressbet.com handicapper and analyst. “Especially at Saratoga and Del Mar, where fitness, quickness and readiness among two-year-olds and layoff runners must be accurately evaluated, the videos at XBTV.com provide the missing link to the handicapping process that the serious horseplayer simply cannot be without.”

With the tracks' two premier days on tap for later this month – Del Mar's Pacific Classic on August 21 and Saratoga's Travers on August 28 – now is the perfect time to browse XBTV's video library to gain an edge while handicapping races. XBTV teams in California and New York have been hard at work since before both tracks opened in July, capturing workouts for horses of all talent levels, from graded stakes winners to the unraced 2-year-olds looking to join them.

XBTV's video workout library is available at no cost for 1/ST account holders. To setup a free 1/ST account, simply visit XBTV.com and provide your name, email address and date of birth. A 1/ST account also allows customers to access the 1/ST BET and Xpressbet betting platforms as well as BETMIX handicapping software.

As happens at Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park during the Winter and Spring, two XBTV camera operators are trackside each morning working with the Official Clockers at each track to record the workouts. The full XBTV library extends beyond two years of workout footage, which allows handicappers the opportunity to look at how a horse's work pattern might have changed – positively or negatively – throughout its career.

XBTV's exclusive video workouts will return to Santa Anita and Gulfstream this fall prior to both tracks' the October meets.

Del Mar: Thursday’s Pick Six Carryover At $1,645,118

Long-winded allowance horses will stretch out to a mile and three-eighths Thursday at Del Mar for a $74,000 allowance purse that will serve as the feature attraction on the day's eight-race card. It goes as Race 7 on the program and has lured eight runners to test their legs and lungs over the demanding 11-furlong distance.

Along with the feature, there will be an extra buzz to the day's card as the track's Pick Six Single Ticket Jackpot wager will be up for grabs once more this time with a $1,645,118 carryover to serve as extra incentive. The bet has carried forward for 16 straight racing days and its prize just grows more and more lucrative. If it is not “hit” on either Thursday or Friday of this upcoming week, it goes to TVG Pacific Classic Day on Saturday and that's a “mandatory” afternoon when all money in the pot gets paid out to those holding tickets with the highest number of winners.

The feature is an interesting betting affair with the likely favorite being an old pro named Ward 'n Jerry, a homebred 8-year-old gelding who races in the silks of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams. The Mike Puype-trained veteran has run the most races – 29 – won the most – 8 – and banked the most money — $474,759 – in the lineup.

There's little doubt that Ward 'n Jerry can get the trip. In eight of his last 12 outings he's run farther than the Thursday headliner, so the old boy has a lot of things in his corner. Leading rider Flavien Prat signs on the ride, so there's yet another thing in his favor.

Here's the full lineup for the feature from the rail out with riders: Bran Jam Stable and Firsthome Thoroughbreds' Big Buzz (Jessica Pyfer); Reddam Racing's Parsimony (Mario Gutierrez); Three Diamonds Farm's Ocean Atlantique (Trevor McCarthy); Alfred Pais' Margot's Boy (Juan Hernandez); Ward 'n Jerry; Karl Pergola's K P All Systems Go (Tyler Baze); Slam Dunk Racing or Nentwig's Rijeka (Joe Bravo), and Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Warren, Jr.'s Seven Charms (Kyle Frey).

First post on Thursday is at 2 p.m.

Charles Town To Offer Multiple Guaranteed Pools, Mandatory Pick 6 Payout On Classic Night

In addition to 13 races worth in excess of $2 million in purses, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races will also be offering a series of quality wagering opportunities for horseplayers on its Charles Town Classic card coming up on Friday, Aug. 27.

Both the late, all-stakes Pick 4 and Pick 5 on the Charles Town Classic card will come with $100,000 guarantees, where the track will supplement the difference in either pool if less than $100,000 is wagered. The Pick 4, which covers the final four races on the Classic card, and the Pick 5 covering the final five paid out $380.00 and $1,466.15 respectively for a 50-cent bet on the 2020 Classic card, despite 50-cent win parlays for each sequence returning less than half those amounts.

In addition to the multiple guaranteed pools, Charles Town has also scheduled a mandatory payout of the Charles Town 6-12 carryover which currently stands at $21,243 with 4 cards remaining prior to its distribution. The Charles Town 6-12 is a jackpot style Pick 6 covering the final six races on each Charles Town card and carries a low 12-percent takeout.

Due to the low takeout and size of the carryover, the mandatory payouts of the Charles Town 6-12 have typically resulted in a players' advantage of in upwards of 13% paid out on top of the gross pool on the night of the distribution.

The first race on Charles Town Classic day is slated for 5:00 P.M EST, with the $800,000 Charles Town Classic carrying a tentative post time of 10:18 P.M.
