Overlooked at 15-1, the Jeff Mullins trainee was hustled out from her wide berth and settled in a stalking position as first Hi Con (Nyquist) and then Bonus Fever (Runhappy) set early fractions of :22.48 and :46.83 while favorite Moonlight d’Oro (Medaglia d’Oro) lingered near the back. At the throat latch of Bonus Fever turning into the stretch, Roll Up Mo Money bounded clear midstretch and had enough of a cushion to score by 1 1/4 lengths over the closing Moonlight d’Oro, who found her best stride late. 2YO Racing Stalemate in Maryland Ends

The Maryland Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review Committee has approved the Maryland Racing Commission’s emergency regulation that will facilitate Lasix-free 2-year-old races, it was announced Sunday evening. No races for juveniles have been held in Maryland this year due to a stalemate between the state’s racing factions over the use of the anti-bleeder medication. It was announced on July 16 that The Maryland Jockey Club, The Stronach Group and the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association had reached an agreement for a Lasix-free pilot program through 2023.

While no 2-year-old races are listed in the current Laurel Park condition book, Maryland Jockey Club President Sal Sinatra said there would be two extra races offered for Friday, Aug. 7: a Lasix-free 2-year-old maiden special weight and Lasix-free 2-year-old maiden special weight for fillies, both at five furlongs.

Relatedly, the MRC Equine Safety, Health and Welfare Advisory Committee July 31 authorized a veterinary survey study of all 2-year-olds that race in Maryland through Dec. 31 of 2020. The objective of the study is to track the incidence of exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage in 2-year-olds racing without Lasix using video scopes.

The emergency regulation was approved for the standard six-month period, from July 31, 2020 through Jan. 26, 2021.

Debut Winner for Nyquist in New York

LADY LILLY (f, 2, Nyquist–Miss Inclined {MSP, $184,451}, by Pulpit) raced out to take an early lead, showing the way through initial splits of :22.48 and :45.82. In the clear turning for home, the $280,000 KEESEP yearling appeared to be home free, but despite getting leg-weary in the final sixteenth, the 9-5 choice held on for a neck victory over the oncoming Mo Dean (Uncle Mo). The winner’s freshman sire, Nyquist, was registering his third winner, following Gretzky the Great’s maiden special weight win minutes earlier at Woodbine. Miss Inclined, a half sister to dual graded stakes winning Rush Bay (Cozzene), produced a colt by Will Take Charge last season followed by a Liam’s Map filly this term. Nyquist Colt Posts Easy Win at Woodbine

GRETZKY THE GREAT (c, 2, Nyquist–Pearl Turn {MSP, $182,560}, by Bernardini), sent off the hot 1-2 choice, jumped out to an early advantage, led through splits of :22.77 and :45.09 and turned on all boosters late, crossing the wire 4 1/2 lengths ahead of Liars Club (Broken Vow). The Ontario bred kicked off his career for Mark Casse with a second-place effort sprinting five panels over the local turf July 12 behind Ready to Repeat (More Than Ready), who would go on to air in the Victoria S. later on this card. Gretzky the Great’s victory made him the second winner for his freshman sire (by Uncle Mo). The Darley stallion recorded his third winner minutes later in Saratoga’s sixth race with Lady Lilly.
