MATAREYA (f, 2, Pioneerof the Nile–Innovative Idea {GSW, $229,343}, by Bernardini), whose dam's signature win came in the 2016 GIII Groupie Doll S. here, was coupled in the wagering at 9-5 with Brendan Walsh-trained fellow Godolphin homebred Dreamalot (Ghostzapper). Straight to the front, the bay doled out splits of :22.09 and :45.07 and turned for home in command. Dreamalot came with a fence run and briefly looked like she'd give Matareya a challenge, but the front-runner shut the door and galloped home under wraps to win with promise. Dreamalot held second to complete the one-two finish not only for her owner/breeder but for late broodmare sire Bernardini. The winner's second dam is MGSW/GISP Golden Velvet (Seeking the Gold) and her third dam is MGSW Caress (Storm Cat). This is the family of Bernstein and Sky Mesa as well as a current Godolphin standout in the Walsh pupil Maxfield (Street Sense), who is also out of a Bernardini mare. Carpe Diem Filly Flashy in First Start for Bromans

2nd-Saratoga, $85,000, (S), Msw, 8-20, 2yo, f, 6f, 1:10.92, gd, 12 1/2 lengths.
MAKIN MY MOVE (f, 2, Carpe Diem–Hard to Stay Notgo {MSW, $212,440}, by More Than Ready), bought back for $190,000 at OBS March after breezing in a bullet :9 4/5, likely left her breeders pleased with that outcome after running up the score impressively Friday. Backed down to 5-4 with some upbeat works and with leading rider Luis Saez taking the mount, the bay broke on top with Silver Fist (Iron Fist) and Trinity Titoli (Lord Nelson) giving chase through splits of :21.88 and :44.91. She was several lengths clear at the top of the lane, and not for catching from there as she cruised away in hand by 12 1/2 lengths. Silver Fist was a clear-cut second, while Trinity Titoli re-rallied to hold on for third. The winner's similarly fleet-footed dam took her own Spa unveiling at two by five lengths in 2014 and is also responsible for $425,000 OBSMAR grad Gotta Go Mo (Uncle Mo), SP, $154,320. FanDuel Named Title Partner at Kentucky Downs

With Kentucky Downs and FanDuel entering into a three-year partnership, the upcoming six-day meet at Kentucky Downs has been renamed the FanDuel Meet at Kentucky Downs. Located near the Kentucky and Tennessee border, Kentucky Downs offers only turf racing with some of the biggest purses in America. FanDuel, a sports-tech entertainment company, is the parent company of TVG.

Included among the changes brought about by the partnership are TVG becoming the official Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) platform for Kentucky Downs; racing from the track airing exclusively on TVG for network and cable television, with the exception of NBC showing live the two Breeders' Cup Challenge races Sept. 11; a renaming of the Sept. 11 Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race to the $1-million GIII FanDuel Turf Sprint; and racing Sept. 8 will be called TVG Day, with the network sponsoring and the $400,000 Tapit S. that day renamed the TVG S.

“FanDuel and TVG recognize our value and we're immensely proud that Kentucky Downs has been added to their sponsorship portfolio that includes the Breeders' Cup, Keeneland, and Del Mar in horse racing, as well as FanDuel's association with the NFL, NBA, MLB, and PGA Tour,” said Marc Falcone, who co-owns and manages the track with Ron Winchell.

Added Winchell: “TVG is America's undisputed leader in television horse racing and Kentucky Downs has developed arguably the best betting product in the industry. That includes the largest purses and field sizes in the country combined with takeout rates that are very horseplayer friendly.”

The meet begins Sunday, Sept. 5.

Nick Tammaro New Announcer at Sam Houston

Houston native Nick Tammaro has been named the new track announcer of Sam Houston Race Park. He will step into the role when the 50-day Thoroughbred meet gets underway Jan. 6 and will also call for the Quarter Horse meet, which begins in April.

The 37-year-old Tammaro has been following racing since his first trip to Louisiana's Fair Grounds when he was six. He's been officially involved in racing for more than 13 years as a public handicapper, speed figure maker, and oddsmaker. He has competed eight times in the National Handicapping Challenge in Las Vegas and earned a top-five finish in the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge. Tammaro called the 2021 Quarter Horse meet at Sam Houston when previous announcer Chris Griffin departed for Parx.

“Nick has been a part of the Sam Houston Race Park team for many years as our morning-line oddsmaker and guest handicapper,” said Frank Hopf, Sam Houston's senior director of racing operations. “He did a tremendous job calling races during our Quarter Horse meet. His passion for the sport of horseracing is contagious and will be a major asset to our team.”

Tammaro got his undergrad at the University of Dallas and earned his M.B.A. at the University of Houston. He and his wife, Norma, and 2-year-old daughter, Alessandra, live in Pearland, just outside of Houston.
