Rubicon Sponsors Keeneland’s Valley View

Rubicon, a Lexington-based software company that provides smart waste and recycling solutions, is the new sponsor of Keeneland's $150,000 GIII Valley View S., which will be run Friday, Oct. 29.

The Rubicon Valley View, a 1 1/16-mile turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies, is named for Kentucky's oldest recorded commercial business, the Valley View Ferry, which has operated since 1785. The ferry crosses the Kentucky River to connect Fayette and Madison counties. Stunning Sky (Declaration of War) won the most recent edition of the race, formerly known as the Pin Oak Valley View S., in 2020.

“Keeneland is proud to have Rubicon join as sponsor of the Valley View,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said. “The stakes sponsorship is a new dimension of the association between Keeneland and Rubicon, which began in December 2020 when Keeneland named Rubicon as its exclusive waste, recycling, and sustainability partner.”

Rubicon also becomes the presenting sponsor of Heroes Day, to be held Sunday, Oct. 24. Keeneland honors military, first responders, and health care workers with activities and recognitions throughout the day. The Fall Meet continues through Saturday, Oct. 30.

La Dragontea Supplemented to Fasig-Tipton

La Dragontea (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}–La Concorde {Fr}, by Sadler's Wells), second in Sunday's GI E. P. Taylor S. after a win in last month's GII Canadian S., has been supplemented to the Fasig-Tipton November Sale, which will take place Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Catalogued as hip 267 in the sale known as the “Night of the Stars,” La Dragontea will be consigned as a racing/broodmare prospect by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

The 4-year-old filly, who was bred by Bartisan Racing Ltd., began her career in England but thrived when coming stateside and being placed under the tutelage of Christophe Clement. She began her North American campaign with a Belmont allowance win in May and later added a Saratoga allowance before the Woodbine campaign that resulted in the Canadian win and E. P. Taylor runner-up finish.

“La Dragontea should appeal to a wide variety of racing and breeding operations,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. “She is beautifully bred, has current Grade I form, and at just 4-years-old, she has a lot of racing still ahead of her.”

Owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Rebecca Hillen, La Dragontea is from the immediate family of European champion and leading sire Montjeu.
