Eclipse Thoroughbreds’ Unbeaten Manhattan Jungle Untroubled On Black-Type Debut

Manhattan Jungle (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}–Skylight {Ire}, by Acclamation {GB}) annexed a five-furlong newcomers' heat at Chantilly in her Apr. 13 unveiling and doubled up, at the expense of the reopposing subsequent winner Sabya (Fr) (Pedro The Great), over the same distance at Lyon Parilly in her Apr. 26 return last time. Breaking sharply to race on the front end from flagfall in this black-type debut, she went clear when asked to stretch soon after passing the two pole and was pushed out in the closing stages to easily hold the late bid of Exxtra (Fr) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) by 1 3/4 lengths for a career high and a perfect three-for-three record.

“Manhattan Jungle came onto our radar immediately after her debut at Chantilly,” said Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners' Aron Wellman. “She looked like a fast filly with gears, who could potentially be a [G2] Queen Mary prospect for Royal Ascot. I saw the race and liked it. But, in all candour, when my good friend and colleague Mike Levy pushed me on her, which is a rare thing for him to do, I got much more serious about pursuing her as a purchase for Eclipse. Then, when another good friend and colleague, Jamie Lloyd, contacted me with an in to get a deal done, it was go-time. It all came together beautifully and we turned around within two weeks and won an allowance at Lyon [Parilly], which inspired us to go for the Listed race at Vichy today as a test to see if she was, in fact, a bona fide Royal Ascot contender.”

Wellman added, “Eclipse has only run three horses at Royal Ascot, with a second from our US-based filly Sharing in the G1 Coronation S. in 2020 and we won the Queen Mary last year with a filly named Quick Suzy, who we acquired privately in Ireland after her debut, similar to how we came across Manhattan Jungle. Our partners at Eclipse have a voracious appetite for having legitimate runners at Royal Ascot and our base is becoming increasingly game for international action in Europe and Australia, so we're delighted Manhattan Jungle might take our partners back for another thrilling tilt at the Royal Meeting with a very smart, talented and classy filly. Amy Murphy has been brilliant in executing the game plan we mapped out when we acquired Manhattan Jungle and now we just have to hope that the filly can manage to maintain her pristine trajectory as we embark upon a much more serious challenge heading to Ascot. The world is getting so small, particularly in our industry, and it's wonderful to have an Irish-bred filly, who is three-for-three in France and now destined for Royal Ascot in England and will be supported by a strong contingent of American owners. Very cool stuff!”

Manhattan Jungle is the third foal and first stakes performer, from three winners, produced by a winning granddaughter of Listed Criterium de l'Ouest and Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit placegetter Plissetskaia (Fr) (Caerleon). Plissetskaia produced three black-type performers of her own, namely Listed Prix de Pontarme winner Indianski (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}), MGSP G2 Union-Rennen third Palao (Ger) (Champs Elysees {GB}) and Listed Prix Petite Etoile third La Gohanniere (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}). The January-foaled bay is half to a yearling filly by Sioux Nation.

Tuesday Heads Field of 14 For Sunday’s G1 Irish 1000 Guineas

Sunday's G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas has attracted a final field for 14 with Godolphin's Wild Beauty (GB) (Frankel {GB}) the only filly not to stand her ground at Friday's declaration stage. Her absence leaves Coolmore and Westerberg's G1 1000 Guineas third Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), one of four nominees from the Aidan O'Brien stable seeking a fourth straight renewal, as the lone contender representing Newmarket's Classic form. The ante-post favourite has drawn stall three, with stablemates History (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Concert Hall (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) to her immediate outer in four and five, respectively. Ballydoyle's other entry Lullaby (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) has been allocated gate 13. Moyglare Stud's G3 1000 Guineas Trial victrix Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) will depart from stall 11 while G1 Criterium International third Purplepay (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}), who was knocked down for for €2-million at Arqana's December sale, is set to make her first start for new trainer William Haggas from stall seven.

Outstrip’s Nadette Annexes ParisLongchamp’s Listed Prix Finlande

Team Valor International and Marco Saviozzi's 3-year-old filly Nadette (Fr) (Outstrip {GB}–Ciboulette {Ire}, by Pivotal {GB}) was two places behind subsequent G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) when fifth going one mile at ParisLongchamp in last month's G3 Prix de la Grotte and stepped forward to collect a career high in Thursday's Listed Prix Finlande upped to nine furlongs back at the Bois de Boulogne venue. The 32-5 chance, who also ran fifth in last term's G3 Prix des Reservoirs at Deauville, found a smooth rhythm off the pace in sixth after the initial exchanges. Rowed along in early straight with 500 metres remaining, she quickened smartly for control entering the final furlong and was not for catching under mild urging in the closing stages, keeping on strongly to easily hold Bahasa (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) by 1 1/2 lengths. The hitherto undefeated Yukata (Ire) (Galileo {Ire} was a head away in third, a short head in front of 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in fourth.

“She ran a good race in the [G3] Prix de la Grotte and that is good form as we saw this last Sunday in the [G1 Poule d'Essai des] Pouliches,” said winning trainer Romain Le Dren Doleuze. “I was confident beforehand as I knew that she would love the extra furlong and the faster ground. She has an entry for next month's [G1] Prix de Diane and I have an idea as to what we should do next, but I will talk with the owners before revealing any future plans.”

Nadette is the second of four foals and lone scorer produced by a multiple-winning half-sister to Listed Lure S. victor Kencumin (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}). Her second dam Cumin (Fusaichi Pegasus), herself a full-sister to dual Grade III placegetter Obsequious, ran third in the G3 Prestige S. and is a granddaughter of MG1SW European Horse of the Year User Friendly (GB) (Slip Anchor {GB}). The April-foaled bay is kin to a 2-year-old colt by Kendargent (Fr) and a yearling filly by Al Wukair (Ire).

Saxon Warrior Filly Sets Record at Goresbridge Sale

A filly from the first crop of dual Group 1 winner Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) out of Causeway Queen (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) was hammered down to Stephen Hillen and Kevin Ryan for €520,000 to shoot to the head of the class at Thursday's Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale.

The final price set a new record for the Goresbridge Sale, easily surpassing the €410,000 set at last year's event. The March-foaled chestnut was consigned to the auction by Greenhills Farm as lot 151 and is out of an unraced daughter of G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Ask For the Moon (Fr) (Dr Fong), whose produce include G3 Dee S. winner and G1 Investec Derby third Astrology (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and the listed-winning Sandro Botticelli (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

“It is fantastic, she is a gorgeous filly, cracking filly with a lovely pedigree and she just filled the eye for everyone,” said a delighted Katie Walsh, who previously topped the Goresbridge Sale in 2018 with the Frankel filly East, also bought by Hillen.

“I knew coming here that she was going to clock well, I had a fair idea that she is a tasty filly–all she had done is please me since I have had her. She has always been a straightforward filly with a great galloping stride and a great attitude.”

The cross of Saxon Warrior's legendary late sire over Giant's Causeway dams has resulted in the likes of Beauty Parlour, Barocci and Deep Jewelry.
