First Foal for New York Sire Keepmeinmind

Sequel Stallions New York's GSW and MGISP Keepmeinmind (Laoban–Inclination, by Victory Gallop) was represented by his first foal recently, a filly. Bred by Sequel, the filly is out of the unraced Wintrily (Carpe Diem), a half-sister to Nov. 18 Key Cents S. winner Tricky Temper (Into Mischief).

“We couldn't be happier with how this foal is built,” said Sequel's Becky Thomas. “She has a great size and shape to her, plenty of leg, and has all the parts and pedigree to be a great racehorse!”

Keepmeinmind will stand his second season at Sequel for $5,000 S&N.

The Lieutenant, Justify’s Ill-Fated Half-Brother, Represented By First Winner At Saratoga

Nearly three years following the tragic slaughter of The Lieutenant, as well as three other stallions located at Haras Barlovento in Peru, where he was standing for the 2019 southern hemisphere season, the New York-based half-brother to Triple Crown champion Justify (Scat Daddy) was represented by his first winner at Saratoga.

A graded stakes winner who retired with a 4-2-1 record from 15 starts and $345,882 in earnings, The Lieutenant stood just a single season at Sequel Stallions New York where he bred a reported 46 mares before shipping south to Peru where, just four months later, he would be killed in a break in along with three other stallions at Haras Barlovento, which has since closed its operation.  His only crop of foals, numbered just 32, included Sunday's winner Vacation Dance.

After failing to meet his reserve at OBS March (:10), Vacation Dance brought $90,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale (:10.1) earlier this year. Making his career debut Sunday at 8-1, he was slow into stride and settled mid-pack in fifth while racing in the clear to the outside. Under a ride midway around the turn, Vacation Dance bid three wide past the quarter pole to take command at the top of the lane and, despite drifting out in the final furlong, he held steady to the line to just hold off Disarmed (Maclean's Music) by a head.

From the extended family of GI Woodward S. winner Art Collector (Bernardini), Vacation Dance has a yearling half-sister by Mucho Macho Man and a weanling half-sister by Heart to Heart. His dam was sent to Combatant for the 2023 season.

First Mares Check In-foal for Fulls to Laoban, Gun Runner

The first mares bred to Fortune Ticket (Candy Ride {Arg}-Quiet Giant, by Giant's Causeway) and Son of Thunder (Uncle Mo-Chattertown, by Speightstown) have been confirmed in foal via press release from Climax Stallions. Fortune Ticket, the full-brother to Horse of the Year and #1 two-year-old sire Gun Runner, is standing his first season at Anchor and Hope Farm in Maryland. On the board in four of six lifetime starts with two wins, he sold for $27,000 two years ago at KEENOV. Son of Thunder, the full-brother to the late Laoban, is standing his first season at Waldorf Farm in New York. The bay was a $475,000 Denali Stud consignment, and he went the way of Lael Stable at the 2019 Saratoga Select yearling sale. He retired with a second-place effort from only three lifetime starts. Fortune Ticket and Son of Thunder are both standing the 2022 breeding season for an advertised fee of $2,500, stands and nurses. “We are thrilled to be able to bring such elite bloodlines to the regional markets,” said Sean Feld, President of Climax Stallions, whose group is supporting both freshman with multiple mares. “Both stallions have stellar physicals to match, which has us anxiously awaiting the foals to come.”

First Mares in Foal to Honest Mischief

Regally bred stakes winner Honest Mischief (Into Mischief) has his first mares in foal.

A winning Exchange Rate mare, Tradeable, and Caragh Queen, a Hard Spun half-sister to GI Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, checked in foal for breeder William J. Butler.

Dobra, a Smoke Glacken mare who won over $200,000 the hard way, checked in foal for breeder Ron Lombardi of Mr. Amore Stables. Delta Delight, a Union Rags half-sister to graded stakes winner JJ's Lucky Train, also checked in foal for breeder Allen Poindexter.

“We are happily overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of support that we are getting for our exciting new sire. And we are thrilled that the first mares sent by some of our favorite breeders are in foal so early,” said Becky Thomas of Sequel New York.

Honest Mischief stands for a fee of $6,500 LFSN for a Syndicate at Sequel Stallions New York, LLC.
