ELUSIVE TERRY (IRE) (c, 4, Raven's Pass–Bonding, by Violence) gave trainer Bhupat Seemar his fifth win of the evening while maintaining his perfect record at Meydan on Friday. A four-length winner of an Jebel Ali maiden on Jan. 27, the colt jumped a touch slow and was hustled up to contest the early pace. Glued to the rail, he applied pressure to My Kinda Day (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) on the turn. On top at the 400-metre marker, the 4-year-old held firm despite pressure from both sides and lifted to win by two lengths. “Drawn one, second start ever, first time at Meydan… he was good,” said Pat Cosgrave. “I thought he'd run his race at 300 metres but then he went on again–he's tough. I wouldn't be surprised if he's quite a good horse and if he goes a mile he'll be even better. He could keep improving and go out of handicaps at some stage, he's got no flaws.” Reflecting on an excellent night, Seemar added, “We came here with some good horses with good chances but it all has to drop right. It's a massive team effort, the guys at home do an excellent job and I just get to pick up the prizes.” Triple Venture (Elusive Quality) beat out Elraaed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by a nose for second. Bonding has an unraced 3-year-old full-sister named Haydarieh (Ire) (Raven's Pass), and colts by Belardo (Ire) and U S Navy Flag born in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Dubawi Anchors Darley Europe Roster at £250,000

Dubawi (Ire) (Dubai Millennium {GB}) will stand for an unchanged fee of £250,000 at Dalham Hall Stud and anchors the 2022 roster for Darley Europe. His fee is the most expensive in Europe.

He enjoyed a notable success at the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships, with three winners in a single year, the first sire to reach that mark in the 37-year history of the Breeders' Cup. The GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf went to Modern Games (Ire), Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Mile was won by new Kildangan Stud resident Space Blues (Ire) and Dubawi's trio was rounded out by the victory of Yibir (GB) in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf. In addition, Dubawi is the world's leading sire of group winners with 23 and stakes winners at 37.

A trio of new stallions will join the Darley Europe roster in 2022, with Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) leading the way at £55,000 at Dalham Hall. One of the most brilliant milers seen in recent years with five Group 1 victories to his name, the son of Kingman won the G1 St. James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot in 2020 and later scored a victory in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois. Kept in training in 2021, he added another trio of top-flight races-the G1 Lockinge S. at Sandown, Royal Ascot's G1 Queen Anne S. and a second edition of the Marois. The ultra-consistent bay retires with nine wins in 11 starts and $2,408,980 in earnings, rounded out by a neck second in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. on QIPCO British Champions Day.

Making his debut at Kildangan Stud is Space Blues, fresh off his Breeders' Cup Mile win. Priced at €17,500, the son of Miss Lucifer (Fr) (Noverre) captured the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest in 2020 and also added the G1 Prix de la Foret prior to his Mile tally. He retires with a mark of 19-11-3-1 and $2,585,725 in earnings.

Undefeated as a juvenile including in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, Victor Ludorum (GB) (Shamardal) progressed to take the G1 French 2000 Guineas at three. Out of Antiquities (GB) (Kaldounevees {Fr}), his fee will be €15,000 at Haras du Logis. He also took the G3 Prix Messidor as a 4-year-old and brings a mark of 14-5-0-5 and $864,838 to stud.

Dubawi's son Night of Thunder (Ire) sired a pair of Group 1 winners in 2021 and he will command €75,000, tops of the Kildangan Stud roster. Thundering Nights (Ire) won the GI Pretty Polly S., while Kukeracha (NZ) was in action Down Under in the G1 Queensland Derby. They are two of 12 2021 black-type winners for their sire, who also sired four other group winners this year, among them Suesa (Ire) and GIII Athenia S. winner Pocket Square (GB).

Standing at £45,000 in 2022 is Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) at Dalham Hall. Flawless in a juvenile campaign that culminated in a victory in the G1 Dewhurst S., the bay backed up that form with another pair of Group 1 wins as a 3-year-old in the G1 Prix Jean Prat and G1 Sussex S. The son of Dar Re Mi (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) was also Classic placed with a runner-up performance in the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

Esteemed sprinter Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal) will stand for €40,000 at Kildangan. A dual winner of the G1 King's Stand S., the bay also won the G1 Diamond Jubilee and G1 Al Quoz Sprint. Both Too Darn Hot and Blue Point will have their first yearlings in 2022.

Three-time Group 1 winner Pinatubo (Ire) (Shamardal) is expecting is first foals in 2022, and will stand for £35,000 at Dalham Hall. Also welcoming their first progeny in 2022 are the Kildangan duo of Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) at €25,000, a four-time top-level hero, and Earthlight (Ire) (Shamardal) at €18,000. The latter landed a pair of juvenile Group 1s in 2019-the Prix Morny and the Middle Park S.

Two stallions that celebrated black-type success with their first runners this season were Profitable (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}). The Kildangan residents will each stand for €12,500. The only stallion to receive a fee increase across the entire roster, Profitable sired 25 winners this year so far, and already has a group winner with G2 Queen Mary S. victress Quick Suzy (Ire). Ribchester has Listed Doncaster S. winner Flaming Rib (Ire) to date.

Dalham stalwarts and Group 1 sires New Approach (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic) are listed as private and £17,500, respectively. In Ireland, fellow Group 1 sire Teofilo (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will command €30,000. See below for the full 2022 Darley Europe roster.

Flying Five Glory For Raven’s Pass’ Romantic Proposal

Eddie Lynam has done more than most to revive the Irish sprinting scene from the doldrums and he was in the limelight again at the end of Sunday's G1 Derrinstown Stud Flying Five S. at The Curragh with the mare Romantic Proposal (Ire) (Raven's Pass). Sent off at 16-1 with just a win in this track's Listed Dubai Duty Free Dash S. to recommend her in a deep renewal, Clipper Logistics' 5-year-old was held up early by Chris Hayes towards the stand's rail before being switched to track the accomplished Dragon Symbol (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) and Glass Slippers (GB) (Dream Ahead) three lanes wide. Always travelling with menace, she split those English raiders in the last 75 yards and asserted to beat her compatriot A Case of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}) by half a length, with a neck back to last year's winner Glass Slippers in third, in this “Win and You're In” contest for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar in November.

“I thought if the rain got into the ground, she had a chance and I quietly fancied her,” Hayes said. “When you're riding for Eddie Lynam in a sprint you are always going to have some sort of chance. When I rode earlier, I knew the ground was juicy and I knew they would go hard and that she would stay. I wanted to ride her cool knowing that she'll come home and I thought she could be in the first three.”

Something of a slow-burner, Romantic Proposal enjoyed her first big day when winning the valuable Scurry H. over an extended six furlongs here last July before finishing fourth in the Listed Curragh Sprint S. and G3 Renaissance S. over six back at this venue. Having started out over a mile as a 3-year-old, she was asked to drop to this trip on her 2021 bow and managed a third in the Listed Sole Power Sprint S. at Naas May 16 before returning here to be runner-up in the June 2 G3 Ballyogan S. reverting to six. Finally making it count in the Dash also over six on the Irish Derby undercard June 26, the bay was adrift of Mooneista (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) and Gustavus Weston (Ire) (Equiano {Fr}) when third in the G2 Sapphire S. over this course and distance last time July 17.

Hayes, who rode the 2015 Flying Five winner Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) for this stable, timed this to perfection but was not inclined to self-praise after the event. “There's no point in hiding it, I could have been better on her the last day,” he said. “I rode her with too much confidence on ground which was quick the last day and I met a wall of horses and had to switch.. Today was different, but Eddie said to leave her go forward and she loved it. I still got there too soon. She had been trained for today–Eddie specifically put her away for it and it felt like slow motion for me. I was always confident I was going to get them and I knew she would quicken through that gap on this ground.”

Lynam, who began the turnaround for the Irish sprinters with Sole Power following a lengthy period of seeing the category's major prizes carried off to Britain, commented, “Steve Parkin and Joe Foley let me do what I want and are very easy to train for. My daughter Amy bought her as a foal and bought Soffia as a foal, so you won't see me down to buy many at the sales in future! I always believe an improving filly like her was capable of running a big race and she did everything great. It's six years since I had a group 1 winner–I had gone 30 years without having one and didn't know what they were like, but when you get a bit of a taste for it you want more.”

“I only have 30 horses and [daughter] Sarah has 11. We have a smaller team, but I'm happy and I'm not looking for 100 horses. I'd just like the good ones, to be honest, but they are hard to come by. We are still passionate about it. She's improving and getting faster and I think she'll probably go for the [Oct. 3 G1 Prix de l'] Abbaye–I always thought she needed it soft, but she handled that well and the track at Longchamp doesn't get used much and never gets too bad. I'll talk to Steve, but he wants to keep her in training next year so hats off to him.”

A Case of You was finding his form again for trainer Adrian McGuinness, who said of the runner-up, “He'd been working very well–things went a little wrong in the summer and when l saw a bit of ease in the ground I was happy. He got a peach of a ride and it's my first runner in a group 1 in Ireland. It's onwards and upwards for him and he has loads of opportunities and can travel. I knew he'd stay very well and he's going to improve again. He's not entered in the Abbaye, which is disappointing, but after this I could supplement him.”

Romantic Proposal is out of Playwithmyheart (GB) (Diktat {GB}), who is kin to the G1 Prix de la Foret hero Toylsome (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) and the G3 Firth of Clyde S. winner Coral Mist (GB) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}). Toylsome's full-sister What a Treasure (Ire) produced the Listed Yeats S. scorer and G1 Futurity Trophy third Western Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and the Listed Fairway S. winner Hoarding (Elusive Quality), while the third dam River Jig (Irish River {Fr}) is responsible for the GII Buena Vista H. heroine Dance Parade. She is in turn the dam of the G1 St Leger and G1 Gold Cup hero Leading Light (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). Playwithmyheart's unraced 3-year-old colt by Mastercraftsman (Ire) is named White Marlin (Ire).

Brown Chasing Sixth Straight Diana Victory With Lemista, Pocket Square

Four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown will send out Lemista and Pocket Square in Saturday's 83rd renewal of the Grade 1, $500,000 Diana as he looks to secure his sixth consecutive win in the nine-furlong inner-turf test for older fillies and mares at Saratoga Race Course.

Brown captured the first of his record six Diana wins in 2011 with Zagora and has enjoyed success in the last five editions with Dacita [2016], Lady Eli [2017], Sistercharlie [2018-19] and Rushing Fall [2020].

A former assistant to the late Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, himself a two-time Diana winner, Brown spoke about his affinity for the prestigious race on a recent episode of the Across the Board with Andy Serling podcast.

“We've had enormous success with it; I'm lucky. We've had the right horses,” said Brown. “It's a real honor to have that level of success looking back at five Dianas in a row. These are the [types of] races Frankel would point towards.”

Brown will saddle Lemista, a 4-year-old daughter of Raven's Pass, for three-time Diana winning owner Peter Brant, who campaigned Sistercharlie [2018-19] and Just a Game [1980] to Diana scores.

Lemista earned a 100 Beyer in her North American debut in the 1 1/16-mile Grade 3 Beaugay on May 8 at Belmont, finishing a late-closing second to Diana-rival Harvey's Lil Goil.

The Irish-bred dark bay, previously trained by Ger Lyons, captured the Group 2 Kilboy Estate three starts back at the Curragh over yielding going.

Lemista has trained extensively on the Belmont inner turf following the Beaugay, posting eight works dating back to May 22, including a five-furlong effort in 1:01.80 on Sunday in company with Pocket Square [1:01.89].

“She's a top class filly. I have high hopes for her,” Brown said. “We've been pointing for this race for a while and I'm excited to get to it. I think that the time has done her well. She's been working consistently well.”

Juddmonte Farms' Pocket Square, a Group 3 winner at Deauville in October 2019 for former trainer Roger Charlton, rallied to an impressive allowance win in her North American debut on April 7 at Keeneland.

Brown said Pocket Square, by Night of Thunder, missed a breeze heading into her even fifth last out as the lukewarm favorite in the Grade 1 Longines Just a Game, a one-mile jaunt over good turf on June 5 at Belmont.

“She missed her last work with the storms that came through and maybe the soft-ish turf didn't help,” said Brown. “I really thought she was lined up really well going into the Just a Game and I was hopeful she could overcome, but things just didn't work out. She's come back and worked really super, so I'm drawing a line through it and going right back at another Grade 1 with her.”

Despite good form over soft going in Europe, Brown said he would prefer firmer footing for Pocket Square.

“I know she ran well in Europe that way [on good-firm ground], but I think she's more effective on a firm turf course from what I've seen in her training,” said Brown.

Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez will also look to extend his Diana win record to seven, piloting Pocket Square from post 2, while Irad Ortiz, Jr. will guide Lemista from post 7.

Trainer Charlie Appleby enjoyed a one-two finish with 4-year-old Godolphin fillies Althiqa and Summer Romance in the Grade 1 Longines Just a Game.

The Godolphin greys have squared off in their last three starts, dating back to the one-mile Group 2 Cape Verdi in January at Meydan won by Althiqa, a British homebred by Dark Angel. Summer Romance turned the tables on Althiqa in the nine-furlong Group 2 Balanchine in February at Meydan.

In their North American debuts, Summer Romance, an Irish-bred daughter of Kingman, set a sharp pace under Luis Saez, but could not stay off the late run of Althiqa under Hall of Famer Mike Smith.

Both fillies remained at Belmont following the Just a Game, breezing extensively on the Belmont inner turf before shipping upstate to Saratoga on Monday.

Summer Romance, who won the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth at Epsom last July, will exit post 6 under Saez, while Althiqa, who boasts a perfect in-the-money record of 10-5-2-3, will be piloted by Manny Franco from post 8.

The Estate of Harvey A. Clarke and Paul Braverman Harvey's Lil Goil will look to give Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott his fifth Diana win.

Mott, who last won the Diana in 2010 with Proviso, captured three straight editions with Sand Springs, Angara and My Typhoon from 2005-07.

A 4-year-old American Pharoah grey, Harvey's Lil Goil enjoyed a remarkable sophomore campaign, winning the Grade 3 Regret at nine furlongs over firm Churchill Downs turf last June ahead of a game third in the 10-furlong Alabama on the Saratoga main track.

The versatile filly completed her 3-year-old year with a pair of Grade 1 turf starts at Keeneland, including a win in the nine-furlong Queen Elizabeth II Cup in October over good going and a closing third in the 1 3/16-mile Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf over firm footing in November.

A prominent winner of the Beaugay in her seasonal debut on May 8 on good Belmont turf, Harvey's Lil Goil was an even fifth last out in the 10-furlong Grade 2 New York contested on yielding Belmont turf on June 4.

“It was very soft ground,” said Mott of the New York effort. “Some of our stakes have been run on really soft ground and it could have worked against her a little bit.”

Mott said a turnback in distance as well as the tighter turns of the Saratoga inner turf should benefit Harvey's Lil Goil.

“That [cutting back] won't hurt her I don't think,” said Mott. “She's run well on that type of oval previously. She won the Queen Elizabeth at Keeneland and she ran good in the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland and that's a tight turf course, so I don't think that will hurt her.”

Harvey's Lil Goil has recorded four works since the New York, including a five-furlong effort in 1:00.12 on the Oklahoma dirt training track on July 9.

“She couldn't be doing any better,” said Mott.

Junior Alvarado retains the mount from post 5.

Lael Stables' Magic Attitude, a 4-year-old daughter of the late Galileo, will look to improve off a flat seventh last out in the New York.

The British-bred bay was a Group 3 winner in France last May for trainer Fabrice Chappet before being transferred to conditioner Arnaud Delacour for a fall campaign.

In October, Magic Attitude captured the 10-furlong Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational, part of NYRA's Turf Triple series, in her first start for Delacour and followed with a third in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

The talented bay has made three starts this year, including a win in the 11-furlong Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay on firm Belmont turf in May. She will exit post 3 under Hall of Famer Javier Castellano in her Saratoga debut.

Madaket Stables, Tim Cambron, Anna Cambron and Bradley Thoroughbreds' La Signare made the grade with a front-running score in the 2018 Grade 3 Wonder Again traveling nine furlongs on the Belmont turf.

The 6-year-old French-bred daughter of Siyouni, trained by Brendan Walsh, has made four of her last six starts in Grade 1 company, including a third in the 1 1/16-mile Jenny Wiley on yielding Keeneland turf in April and a closing second in the nine-furlong Gamely last out on firm footing on May 31 at Santa Anita.

La Signare will emerge from the inside post under Ricardo Santana, Jr.

Phipps Stable homebred Vigilantes Way enters from a 2 1/4-length score in the Eatontown, a 1 1/16-mile test over firm Monmouth Park turf on June 20.

The 4-year-old Medaglia d'Oro bay, out of the Unbridled mare Salute, is a half-sister to Grade 1-winning millionaire Mr Speaker and Grade 1-winning steeplechaser Snap Decision.

Trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, Vigilantes Way boasts a record of 12-5-2-3 and will be piloted from post 4 by Jose Ortiz.
