Record-Breaking Epsom Oaks Winner Snowfall Will Chase Oaks Double Saturday At The Curragh

Snowfall will attempt to become the 15th filly to complete the Oaks double, following her record breaking 16 lengths success at Epsom, when she lines up in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks this Saturday at The Curragh.

The Aidan O'Brien trained daughter of Deep Impact is among 9 fillies remaining in the Group 1 Classic following Tuesday's entry stage. He also has High Heels, Divinely, La Joconde and Willow in the race.

Trainer Donnacha O'Brien will look to win his first Classic as a trainer with Nicest, while his brother Joseph will be represented by Mariesque. Trainer Ger Lyons, who won the race last year with Even So, will look to win the race for a second successive year with Party House, while Fozzy Stack will be represented by Ahandfulofsummers.

A strong British trained team are set to line up in the Paddy Power Sapphire Stakes. The Group 2 contest has attracted Keep Busy trained by John Quinn and Came From The Dark trained by Ed Walker. Measure of Magic, Logo Hunter, Romantic Proposal, Gustavus Weston and Make A Challenge are the leading home trained contenders.

There are 10 entries for the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey Stakes including recent Curragh Maiden winner Beauty Inspire, together with Hadman, Celtic Times, Strapped, Daisy Peers, Admiral D and Cadamosto.

Speak in Colours heads the 25 entries in the Paddy Power Scurry, which features three British trained contenders with Gulliver, Zargun and Mo Celita.

There are 23 entries in the Kildare Village Ladies Derby, won last year by Princess Zoe, while there are 15 entries in the Dingle Whiskey Nursery Handicap, 22 in the Juddmonte “Expert Eye” EBF Maiden and 13 in the Aquaturf Handicap, including Shanroe, Ever Present and Iowa

Sunday's 8 race program features the valuable Kilboy Estate Stakes with 19 entries in the Group 2 contest. These include Royal Ascot winner Create Belief trained by Johnny Murtagh, multiple stakes winner Angel Power trained in Britain by Roger Varian and Group 1 winner Pretty Gorgeous trained by Joseph O'Brien.

Breeders' Cup winner Order of Australia is one of 15 entries in the Romanised Minstrel Stakes, with contenders for the Group 2 contest also including A Case of You, Monaasib, Ace Aussie, Maker of Kings and Snapraeterea.

Champion Essential Quality To Target Saratoga’s Jim Dandy On July 31

Champion juvenile and this year's Belmont Stakes winner Essential Quality is expected to make his next start in the Grade 3 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga on July 31, reports the Daily Racing Form. The 3-year-old son of Tapit had his first work at Saratoga on Saturday, July 10, breezing a half mile over the main track in a steady 50.44 seconds.

“For his first move over the track, I thought it went well,” trainer Brad Cox told DRF. “He broke off slowly. I had 13-and-2 for his first eighth, and picked it up a little down the lane. It was good for him by himself. He's pretty easy on himself, he doesn't overdo it and never has. It was very similar to his first work back, by himself, after the Belmont at Churchill. I thought he skipped over the track well. He's super happy. He was rearing up after his bath, making me think I should have done a little more with him.”

Cox hopes to use the Jim Dandy as a springboard to the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on Aug. 28 at the Spa. Essential Quality, only defeated once in his career when fourth after a troubled trip in the Kentucky Derby, could face the top three finishers from the Ohio Derby (Masqueparade, King Fury, and Keepmeinmind), Weyburn, Risk Taking, and one of trainer Todd Pletcher's top 3-year-olds in the Jim Dandy.

Letruska Retains No. 1 Position In NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll

St. George Stable's 5-year-old mare Letruska has retained the No. 1 position in the latest NTRA National Thoroughbred Poll following a quiet week in which none of the top rated horses were in action. As a result, the first eight places in the poll remained unchanged.

Letruska, trained by Fausto Gutierrez, has won four of five starts this year, including the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park, the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park, and the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs. A daughter of 2010 Grade 1 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, Letruska has 13 first-place votes and 298 points.

Godolphin's 4-year-old Maxfield, trained by Brendan Walsh, is in second place with six first-place votes and 266 points. Maxfield dominated the June 26 Grade 2 Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs with a powerful 3 ¼-length win to improve his overall record to seven wins in eight starts.

Godolphin's Mystic Guide, winner of the Group 1 Dubai World Cup and second in the Grade 2 Suburban at Belmont, is in third place. Trained by Mike Stidham, Mystic Guide received seven first-place votes and 244 points.

Klaravich Stables' 4-year-old gelding Domestic Spending is in fourth place with seven first-place votes and 225 points. Trained by Chad Brown, in 2021 Domestic Spending has won the Grade 1 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic in a dead heat at Churchill Downs, and the Grade 1 Resorts World Casino Manhattan Stakes at Belmont.

Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing's 4-year-old Silver State, undefeated in four starts this year, is in fifth place. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Silver State, winner of the Grade 1 Hill 'N' Dale Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont, has one first-place vote and 205 points.

Godolphin's 3-year-old Essential Quality, winner of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets, is in sixth place. Trained by Brad Cox, Essential Quality has two first-place votes and 193 points.

Korea Racing Authority's Knicks Go, also trained by Cox, runaway winner Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap on July 2, and victorious in Gulfstream Park's Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational in January, is in seventh place with 133 points.

Michael Lund Petersen's 4-year-old Gamine (90 points), the 2020 champion female sprinter, who is three for three this year, is in eighth place for trainer Bob Baffert.

George E. Hall and SportBLX Thoroughbreds Corp's 4-year-old Max Player, upset winner of the Suburban, is in a ninth-place tie with My Racehorse Stable, Spendthrift Farm and Madaket Stables' 6-year-old Monomoy Girl.

Max Player, trained by Asmussen, and the 6-year-old Monomoy Girl, a two-time Eclipse Award winner, trained by Cox, each has 55 points.

Every week eligible journalists and broadcasters cast votes for their top 10 horses, with points awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. All horses that have raced in the U.S., are in training in the U.S., or are known to be pointing to a major event in the U.S. are eligible for the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll. Voting in the Top Thoroughbred Poll is scheduled to be conducted through Nov. 6.

Louisiana Downs Schedules Six Stakes For Louisiana Cup Day On Aug. 21

Quality Louisiana-bred horses will take center stage on Saturday, Aug. 21, when Louisiana Downs presents Louisiana Cup Day. Post time will be 2:45 pm (CT) for the annual event that will include main track and turf stakes.

Louisiana Cup Day continues to be an excellent afternoon of racing for breeders, owners, trainers and jockeys with an esteemed list of past winners receiving recognition from the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association (LTBA) when they announce their annual champions. Ivery Sisters's Racing's Monte Man, Tri-Star Racing's Our Lost Love, Rodney Verret's Laughingsaintssong, Barrone Farms LLC's Is Too and Tin Roof Farms LLC's Snowball are just a few of the Louisiana Cup Day stakes winners who have been honored by the LTBA.

“Louisiana Cup Day is a great day for the breeders in our state and fans at Louisiana Downs to see some of the top Thoroughbreds in Louisiana,” said David Heitzmann, Director of Racing. “The day would not be possible without the support of Ed Fenasci, Executive Director of the HBPA and Roger Heitzmann, Executive Director of the LTBA. We look forward to presenting an excellent card on August 21.”
