Saratoga Abandons Remainder of Card Due to Weather

With the field for the Aug. 4 GII National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S. at Saratoga Race Course circling in the paddock for several minutes due to lightning, New York Racing Association (NYRA) officials decided to cancel the remainder of Friday's card due to inclement weather. Races 8-11, including the Hall of Fame S., were called off at approximately 5:15 p.m. ET.

The race prior, the GIII Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Oaks Invitational S. won by Elusive Princess (Martinborough {Jpn}), did run as expected, although it was contested in pouring rain.

Saturday's racing, which includes the GI Whitney S. and two other Grade I events, is expected to be conducted as usual. The Hall of Fame S. has been rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 11 with entries to be drawn on Sunday, Aug. 6.

Aqueduct Cancels Saturday Card

The New York Racing Association has canceled Saturday's live racing program at Aqueduct due to dangerously low wind chill values set to impact the New York City metropolitan area. The training track at Belmont will also be closed Saturday, but the jogging barns will remain open.

The current National Weather Service forecast, which aligns with NYRA's independent weather services, is calling for extremely cold temperatures and sustained winds creating wind chill values as low as -5. As a result, NYRA has canceled Saturday's card in the interest of the safety of all participants. Aqueduct Racetrack will be open for simulcasting on Saturday.

Racing resumes Sunday with a nine-race card.

Laurel Park cancelled live racing again Friday, Jan. 7, due to winter weather that disrupted the area and later added that racing would be cancelled through the weekend, according to a press release from the Maryland Jockey Club (MJC). Laurel will remain open for simulcasting, as will Pimlico, Rosecroft, and the MJC OTB Network.

Live racing at Laurel is scheduled to resume Saturday, Jan. 8, with first post at 12:25 p.m.
