ANGHAAM (Curlin) is the first of just two foals out of Serena's Harmony (Tapit), purchased by Bridlewood Farm as a weanling for $3 million at Keeneland November in 2014, the top price for a weanling at that sale and the second most-expensive of that age group ever sold at Keeneland. Lady Take Charge (War Front–Take Charge Lady) brought a record $3.2 million in 2015. Serena's Harmony is a daughter of SW Serena's Cat (Storm Cat), whose produce include 'TDN Rising Star' and Lane's End sire Honor Code (A.P. Indy), MGSW Noble Tune (Unbridled's Song) and Declarationofpeace (War Front). The Florida-bred filly's third dam is MSW Serena's Tune (Mr. Prospector–Serena's Song), dam of Serena's Cat's Group 3-winning half-brother Vocalised (Vindication) and herself a half-sister to GSWs Grand Reward (Storm Cat) and Harlington (Unbridled) as well as G1SW Sophisticat (Storm Cat). Purchased by Shadwell for $800,000 at Keeneland Septembeer in 2019, Anghaam has a 2-year-old half-brother by Candy Ride (Arg), the second and final produce of Serena's Harmony, who passed away in 2019. ‘Quirky’ Weyburn Breezes Seven Furlongs In Preparation For Pennsylvania Derby

Chiefswood Stables' Weyburn, winner of the one-mile Grade 3 Gotham in March at Aqueduct Racetrack, breezed seven furlongs in 1:31.73 Friday on the Belmont training track in preparation for a start in next Saturday's nine-furlong Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx.

Trained by Jimmy Jerkens, Friday's breeze followed up on a bullet five-eighths in 59.63 last Friday on the training track.

“He did well. We just wanted to give him a little stamina today,” Jerkens said. “He worked really fast last week and we didn't want to do that again. I was happy with how he did it.”

The Ontario homebred son of Pioneerof the Nile finished fourth in the nine-furlong Grade 2 Wood Memorial in April at the Big A and followed two months later with a close second to Grade 1 Kentucky Derby runner-up Mandaloun in the 1 1/16-mile Pegasus on June 13 at Monmouth.

Last out, the dark bay colt tracked the pace from third in the nine-furlong Grade 2 Jim Dandy on July 31 at the Spa, but failed to make up ground in the stretch run finishing fourth.

Jerkens said Weyburn, a resurgent Gotham winner under Trevor McCarthy off a three-month layoff, is at his best racing fresh.

“He's got a lot of talent. He's just a little quirky,” Jerkens said. “His two best races – the Gotham and the Pegasus – he had two to three months between starts.”

Paco Lopez will pilot the quirky colt for the first time and Jerkens said the veteran rider will need to keep Weyburn to task.

“He wants to be forwardly placed and then you have to get after him. He'll spit the bit after he's run a long ways and you have to try and beat him to the punch a little bit,” Jerkens said. “Trevor kept riding him the whole time in the Gotham and he came back on. He can be stubborn switching to his outside lead but when he does, he comes back on again.”

Jessica Paquette To Join Parx Broadcast Team On Pennsylvania Derby Day

Racing analyst Jessica Paquette will join the Parx Racing broadcast team on Saturday, Sept. 25 to cover the star-studded Pennsylvania Derby Day card featuring the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) alongside seven additional stakes races on both turf and dirt.

“The Pennsylvania Derby is shaping up to be one of the most exciting races of the year,” said Paquette. “I am thrilled to come on board and can't wait to get to share the experience with fans through a great broadcast and social media.”

Paquette, a native of Massachusetts, recently finished up the summer at Colonial Downs as the paddock host and handicapper. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, she previously has worked as the paddock handicapper at Suffolk Downs and as a racing analyst at Sam Houston. In June, she also took to the announcer's booth for a weekend of Quarter Horse racing at Sam Houston.

Entries will be taken for the Pennsylvania Derby Day card on Monday, Sept. 20.

“Jessica is a star and will be a tremendous addition to our coverage on PA Derby and Cotillion day” said Parx Track Announcer, Chris Griffin.

Kendrick Carmouche Will Be Back In The Saddle Next Monday

Jockey Kendrick Carmouche is expected to return to riding races next Monday at Parx Racing, reports the Daily Racing Form.

He has not ridden in the afternoon since Belmont Stakes day on June 5, when he suffered a broken ankle in the final race and had to undergo surgery.

“He probably could have come back and ridden the final couple of days at Saratoga, but the book was already out and we didn't know exactly when he'd be able to return, and Kendrick didn't want to come back here just to come back,” agent Kevin Bubser told DRF. “He'll ride Monday through Wednesday each of the next two weeks at Parx and be ready to return when Belmont reopens the following Thursday.”

Carmouche began working horses again on Sunday morning at Saratoga.
