Historic Edition Of Travers To Be Broadcast Live On FOX Network

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) and FOX Sports today highlighted television coverage for Saturday's blockbuster Runhappy Travers Day at historic Saratoga Race Course.

For the second consecutive year, the Grade 1, $1 million Runhappy Travers will be televised live on the FOX broadcast network as part of a 1 ½ hour telecast from 5:00-6:30 PM ET on Saturday. Post time for the 151st running of the Runhappy Travers is scheduled for 6:15 PM ET.

An expanded Runhappy Travers Day edition of Saratoga Live, presented by America's Best Racing, Runhappy and Claiborne Farm,will air nationally on FS1 beginning at 11:30 AM ET. Coverage and analysis of the day's races then shifts to FS2 beginning at 3:00 PM ET and continues throughout the afternoon on FS1/FS2.

Saturday's Runhappy Travers is headlined by Sackatoga Stable's Tiz the Law, trained by Barclay Tagg and to be ridden by Manny Franco, who made history in becoming the first New York bred in 138 years to win the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes, capturing the nine-furlong American Classic on June 20 in the first leg of the revised Triple Crown schedule.

“For the first time ever, the Runhappy Travers is a key stop on the road to the Triple Crown,” said Michael Mulvihill, FOX Sports Executive Vice President, Research, League Operations & Strategy. “We are thrilled to again present it on FOX and to showcase Belmont champion Tiz the Law as he continues his campaign. In addition, our expanded coverage across FS1 and FS2 gives horseplayers a full day of action.”

With this year's Saratoga summer meet currently closed to spectators, Saturday's Runhappy Travers Day coverage on Saratoga Live will leverage 32 cameras at various locations throughout the property to capture all the action before, during and after each race. For the first time at Saratoga, the broadcasts will include the introduction of the “WinStar Cam”, which will provide in-race aerial coverage throughout the day.

The 151st running of the Runhappy Travers will be one of five graded stakes on the day. An enticing undercard includes the Grade 1, $300,000 Longines Test for sophomore fillies; the Grade 1, $300,000 Ballerina presented by NYRA Bets, a “Win and You're In” qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint; the Grade 3, $200,000 Troy for 4-year-olds and up on Mellon turf and the Grade 3, $150,000 Waya for older fillies and mares on the inner turf.

First held in 1864, the Travers is the most prestigious stakes race for 3-year-olds outside of the Triple Crown series and the traditional centerpiece of the annual Saratoga meeting. The race is named for William R. Travers, the first president of Saratoga Race Course who won the inaugural running in 1864 with a horse named Kentucky.

NYRA To Host Cross Country Pick 5 With Woodbine On Travers Day At Saratoga

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will host a Cross Country Pick 5 with graded stakes action from historic Saratoga Race Course as well as three races from Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday, Runhappy Travers Day.

Woodbine will start the sequence in Race 8 with a full field of fillies and mares 3-years-old and up going six furlongs on the main track in Race 8 at 4:49 p.m. Eastern. Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse will see Roman d'Oro, who ran fifth in the Grade 3 Mazarine in October at the Rexdale, Ontario-based track, break from post 2. Trainer Kevin Attard will send out Princess Fabiana from the inside post.

The stakes action will start at the Spa when six fillies and mares compete in the Grade 3, $150,000 Waya for older fillies and mares going 1 ½ miles on the inner turf in Race 9 at 5:02 p.m. Fools Gold will look to defend her title in the turf marathon and become the first repeat Waya winner since Source in 1993-94. The Chad Brown trainee will have the services of Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano from the outside post. Her stablemate, the French-bred My Sister Nat, earned North American graded stakes black type in her last two efforts when finishing a close second in the Grade 3 Long Island on November 30 at Aqueduct and the Grade 2 New York in June at Belmont Park.

Action returns to Woodbine in Race 9 at 5:22 p.m. when 10 3-year-olds and up compete in a 7 ½-furlong inner turf challenge. Federal Law, who won the Queenston last year at Woodbine, will be sent out by Casse. Florida Won, condition by Martin Drexler, has ran second in two of his last three starts.

Race 10 at Woodbine, a 5 ½-furlong maiden sprint set to go off at 5:56 p.m., will see Marjorie's Dream, who ran a competitive second last out on July 12 going 6 ½ furlongs at Woodbine, break from post 3 for trainer Randy Thompson. The 12-full horse field also includes Trading Bay, who was third in his debut on November 16 at Woodbine.

The concluding leg will be the 151st running of the Grade 1, $1 million Runhappy Travers for some of the country's top 3-year-olds at the Spa in Race 11 at 6:15 p.m. on FOX.

A talented eight-horse field is highlighted by morning-line even-money favorite Tiz the Law, the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes-winner for trainer Barclay Tagg and to be ridden by Manny Franco. Tiz the Law, who drew post 6, is the leader on the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard and will look to add more points as the Travers will award 100-40-20-10 qualifying points to the top-four finishers. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will send Uncle Chuck, 2-for-2 in his career, into the Travers, breaking from post 3 with Luis Saez aboard. Max Player, the third-place finisher in the Belmont Stakes conditioned by Linda Rice, drew post 4. Others in the field for the 1 1/4-mile Runhappy Travers include Country Grammer, Shivaree, South Bend, Caracaro and First Line.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool.

NYRA Partners With Woodbine on Cross Country Pick 5

The New York Racing Association will host a Cross Country Pick 5 with graded stakes action from Saratoga and three races at Woodbine Saturday. Live coverage of all the sequence’s races will be available with Saratoga Live on FOX Sports and MSG Networks.

Woodbine will start the sequence in race eight. Stakes action starts next at the Spa with the GIII Waya S. Action returns to Woodbine for races nine and 10. The final leg is the GI Runhappy Travers S.

NYRA Statement on NY Travel Advisory

In advance of Runhappy Travers Day Saturday, Aug. 8, NYRA communications director Pat McKenna issued the following statement to address questions regarding the New York Travel Advisory and its impact on horse owners seeking to travel to Saratoga.

To align with required health and safety measures implemented in New York by Governor Andrew Cuomo to mitigate risk and combat the spread of COVID-19, horse owners planning travel to New York from any of the states currently listed on the New York Travel Advisory are required to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival in New York prior to seeking access to Saratoga Race Course.

Owners should be advised that New York state provides no exceptions for those pursuing non-essential travel from states listed on the travel advisory, and a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test does not waive the 14-day quarantine requirement.

There are currently 35 states/territories listed under the travel advisory including the prominent horse racing regions of Kentucky, California, Florida, Maryland, Texas, Virginia and South Carolina. Owners from these 35 states/territories who have completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine, as well as owners from any state not currently listed on the travel advisory, will continue to be permitted at Saratoga Race Course on the day that their horse is entered to run with prior NYRA approval.

Owners are subject to a mandatory temperature check before entering the property and are required to practice social distancing and to wear a facial covering at all times while at Saratoga Race Course. These measures are actively enforced by NYRA security and the NYRA safety stewards.
