NYRA Continuing Efforts to Bring Back Spectators

The New York Racing Association issued a statement Wednesday regarding it ongoing efforts to welcome fans back for the upcoming Belmont Park and Saratoga Racecourse meets. Horse and auto racing were omitted from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's guidance last week relating to reopening sporting events to the public in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic.

“Governor Cuomo's decision to expand capacity limits for sports fans beginning this April is incredibly positive news as we look toward the spring and summer,” said NYRA's Pat McKEnna. “NYRA will work closely with the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Gaming Commission to secure the requisite approvals to welcome fans back to Belmont Park this spring and to Saratoga Race Course this summer. As COVID-19 cases continue to decline and vaccines become more widely available, we are optimistic that capacity limits will increase in the coming months.

“NYRA has conducted live racing for the past eight months without the energy and excitement that the fans bring, and we have missed them dearly during this time. We look forward to turning the page, and opening the doors to these historic venues in the very near future.

“Considering the size and scope of the COVID-19 vaccination site on the first floor of Aqueduct Racetrack, where New York State will soon be distributing more than 4,000 doses per day, NYRA hopes to re-open Aqueduct to spectators in the fall of 2021.”

FS1 To Provide Live Coverage Of Saturday’s Dubai World Cup

Live coverage of the Group 1, $12 million Dubai World Cup airs Saturday, March 27 at noon Eastern on FS1. The field for the 25th renewal of the Dubai World Cup is headlined by multiple graded stakes winner Mystic Guide and will include a collection of standout runners from around the world.

Coverage of the Dubai World Cup undercard, featuring six stakes races, will air live from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on FS1. The 'Golden Hour' telecast, featuring live coverage of the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic and Group 1 Dubai World Cup, will air from noon-1 p.m., Eastern on FS1. Coverage of the Dubai World Cup card on FS1 is presented by Star Guitar.

Rishi Persad, Tom Stanley and Angus McNae will be hosting the action from London, while Nick Lightfoot and Bernard Condren will bring viewers all the latest from Meydan Racecourse. The race call will be provided by Craig Evans. Laffit Pincay III will offer stateside updates live from Aqueduct Racetrack.

Scheduled post time for the Dubai World Cup is 12:50 p.m. Eastern.

The Dubai World Cup, to be contested at 10 furlongs at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will feature a full field of 14 horses.

Godolphin homebred Mystic Guide earned a 108 Beyer Speed Figure last out with a six-length score in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap on February 27 at Oaklawn Park in his seasonal debut.

The 4-year-old Ghostzapper chestnut, out of the multiple Grade 1-winning A.P. Indy mare Music Note, captured the Grade 2 Jim Dandy last summer at Saratoga Race Course. He completed his campaign with a runner-up effort to Happy Saver in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.

Luis Saez will pilot the Michael Stidham trainee from post 6.

Grupo 7C Racing Stable's Jesus' Team finished a closing second last out in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational on January 23 at Gulfstream Park. Trained by Jose D'Angelo and to be piloted from post 9 by Joel Rosario, Jesus' Team finished third in last year's Grade 1 Preakness at Pimlico Race Course ahead of a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland.

Thumbs Up Racing's Sleepy Eyes Todd, a 5-year-old son of Paddy O'Prado, boasts a record of 18-8-2-0 with purse earnings in excess of $1.8 million. Trained by Miguel Silva, the versatile Sleepy Eyes Todd enjoyed a productive 2020 with wins in the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic at nine furlongs and the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector going seven furlongs at Gulfstream Park.

Sleepy Eyes Todd, fifth last out in the Group 1 Saudi Cup, will exit post 10 under Alexis Moreno.

Charles Fipke homebred Title Ready enters from a rallying score in the Grade 3 Louisiana on January 16 at Fair Grounds Race Course. The Dallas Stewart trainee boasts a record of 25-5-6-4 with purse earnings of $656,680 and will be ridden by Ryan Moore from post 4.

International stars in the Dubai World Cup field include Chuwa Wizard [post 3, Keita Tosaki], who was named Japan's best dirt horse of 2020, and Salute the Soldier [post 11, Adrie de Vries], who won the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 last out at Meydan.

In addition to the Dubai World Cup, the Golden Hour telecast will include live coverage of the Group 1, $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic [12:10 p.m.] featuring multiple Grade 1 winner Channel Maker, the reigning Champion Turf Male trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott.

A loaded 10-horse field for the 12-furlong turf test includes Mishriff [post 10, David Egan], last-out winner of the Group 1 Saudi Cup on dirt.

The Dubai World Cup undercard will air live from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on FS1 and feature six stakes races including the Group 2, $750,000 Godolphin Mile; Group 2, $750,000 Dubai Gold Cup; Group 1, $1 million Al Quoz Sprint; Group 2, $750,000 UAE Derby; Group 1, $1.5 million Dubai Golden Shaheen; and Group 1, $4 million Dubai Turf.

NYRA: Beginning April 1, Fully Vaccinated Jockeys No Longer Required To Undergo COVID Tests

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced COVID-19 health and safety protocols for jockeys competing at the 2021 Aqueduct Racetrack spring meet, which will run April 1 through April 18.

The 11-day Big A spring meet will include 13 stakes worth $2.7 million in purses highlighted by the 96th running of the Grade 2, $750,000 Wood Memorial presented by Resorts World Casino on Saturday, April 3. Live racing will be conducted on a Thursday-Sunday schedule with a 1:20 p.m. first post.

NYRA will continue to permit out of town jockeys to compete at Aqueduct during the 2021 spring meet. Those jockeys must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken in New York State within 48 hours of the day they intend to compete at Aqueduct. Out of town jockeys will be provided isolated jockey quarters at Aqueduct.

Members of the regular NYRA jockey colony who travel to ride at any other racetrack during the Aqueduct spring meet will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken in New York State within 48-hours of the day then intend to compete at Aqueduct. Jockeys who have traveled and returned to Aqueduct will be provided isolated jockey quarters at Aqueduct.

Beginning on April 1, all jockeys who have been fully vaccinated will no longer be required to undergo COVID-19 testing in order to compete at Aqueduct. Vaccinated jockeys traveling to ride at Aqueduct, as well as members of the NYRA jockey colony who travel outside of New York State, will continue to be provided isolated jockey quarters at Aqueduct.

According to current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated 14 days or more after receiving the second dose in a two dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or 14 days or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson / Janssen). NYRA will adhere to the current CDC guidance regarding COVID-19 vaccination standards.

Beginning on April 1, all jockeys who have been fully vaccinated to the satisfaction of CDC guidelines will be permitted to enter NYRA barn areas for morning training. Jockeys who have not been fully vaccinated will not be permitted in the barn area but can continue to meet horses in the Belmont paddock and utilize the main track.

In accordance with current CDC guidelines, jockeys who have traveled internationally will be required to quarantine for seven days upon their return. Four days after arrival in the United States, the jockey must be tested for COVID-19. Upon receipt of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, and completion of the seven-day quarantine, the jockey may compete at Aqueduct. All jockeys who have traveled internationally will be provided isolated jockey quarters.

In addition to race day safety protocols which include standard health screening and temperature checks, the jockey quarters at Aqueduct have been substantially altered to provide maximum social distancing and reduce density. All areas accessed by jockeys during the regular course of a race day are closed to outside personnel, including credentialed media, and are cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.

Jockey agents must produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test in order to gain access to the barn area. Races will continue to be drawn via Zoom.

Beginning on April 1, jockey valets who have been fully vaccinated to the satisfaction of CDC guidelines may enter the barn area for morning training. In addition, jockey valets that have been working in the barn area and only saddling horses in the afternoon that have not been fully vaccinated may re-enter the jockeys quarters after completing a 10-day quarantine and providing a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 48-hours of their intended return.

Aqueduct, Oaklawn Team Up For Cross Country Pick 5 On Saturday

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will host a Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday featuring racing action from Aqueduct Racetrack and Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

A field of maiden fillies competing with a $50,000 tag at Oaklawn Park begins the sequence. Carded as Race 6 with a 4:42 p.m. Eastern post, the six-furlong event features Danny Caldwell's Northern Diamond, who is coming off a career-best effort when second as the beaten favorite. She will be making her first start for new connections after being claimed for $40,000 last out.

Action shifts to Aqueduct for the second leg in Race 8 at 4:55 p.m. with a six-furlong state-bred optional-claiming tilt. Roddy Valente's Bustin Timberlake seeks a second straight victory against New York-breds over the Big A main track. Trained by Charlton Baker, the son of Bustin Stones was an emphatic 6 ¾-length winner last out, earning a career-best 99 Beyer Speed Figure. The Players Group's Steam Engine will be seeking his third straight triumph for trainer Antonio Arriaga.

Oaklawn will host the middle leg when an 11-horse field assembles for a six-furlong claiming sprint in Race 7 at 5:15 p.m. Hansens Mischief was made the 7-2 lukewarm favorite for the event and arrives off a fourth-place finish against starter allowance company at the Arkansas oval. Heisfancy also seeks to regain form for trainer Karl Broberg, seeking his first triumph since a score over the all-weather surface at Arlington Park four starts back.

Irresistible Girl will hope the third time is the charm in Aqueduct's ninth-race finale at 5:26 p.m. The daughter of Tapiture will compete as part of a nine-horse field of sophomore filly New York-bred maidens going six furlongs. Trained by Brad Cox and owned by Madaket Stable, Wonder Stable and Robert LaPenta, Irresistible Girl was third, beaten a length last out going a one-turn mile at the Aqueduct.

Summer Brew will attempt to add a victory to a consistent record of 6-0-3-1. Owned by NY Final Furlong Racing Stable and Maspeth Stable and trained by Jorge Abreu, the daughter of Summer Front has kept classy company in the maiden ranks finishing behind subsequent stakes winners Samborella, Make Mischief and Party At Page's as well as stakes-placed Rossa Veloce.

Oaklawn Park hosts the Cross Country Pick 5's finale, when an overflow field of sophomores chase their first career win for a $50,000 tag. Winchell Thoroughbreds' Megatap sports blinkers after two close runner-up placings for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen. Highland Yard's Lazaretto takes a drop in class for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. after finishing tenth off a slow start in hia February 27 debut over a sloppy track at Oaklawn Park. The six-furlong event will go off at 5:47 p.m. in Race 8.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country.
