Beginning in August, horse racing fans, bettors and stakeholders will have a new gathering place to share their love for the sport. The Louisville Thoroughbred Society (LTS) is scheduled to open its doors on Main Street in Louisville, just a 15-minute drive up the road from Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.

The story of my horsemanship journey has looked a lot like this: a horse enters my life typically for an intended purpose such as to train for a specific competitive discipline, and as I truly listen to them and commit myself to solving their unique challenges, they take me down a very different and unexpected path. Just because the horse is “doing” the job doesn’t mean that it is the right one for them to stay sound and happy for their career. I like to think of the “round peg, square hole” analogy for this explanation.

The horse racing world like all other areas of society continues to make changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and public health crisis. Most racetracks currently operating are doing so without spectators, and have instituted strict safety screening protocols for essential employees who are already on the grounds to provide daily care for horses.
