Omaha Beach’s Hot Beach Runs Them off Their Feet in Limestone

After the FanDuel Limestone S. was taken off the grass, Hot Beach (Omaha Beach) did not mind a wet main track one bit as she rolled home a winner at Keeneland on Friday.

The dark bay began her career last summer at Ellis Park with a runner-up finish and then won the Debutante S. at the Pea Patch in mid-August. A well beaten third behind 'TDN Rising Star' V V's Dream (Mitole) in the GIII Pocahontas S. at Churchill Downs a month later, Hot Beach was last seen running second to MGSP Youalmosthadme (Oxbow) in the Myrtlewood S. at Keeneland in late October.

Well-backed at the windows as the 4-5 choice here, the Brian Lynch trainee broke like a shot out of the gate and set the tone up the backstretch. With the field unable to reel her in, Hot Beach continued to make every pole a winning one and she kept finding down the lane to secure her second black-type win.

“I tried to follow my good buddy (trainer) Wesley Ward's instructions over the years: Leave there running,” said Lynch. “I hope (she's gotten better); I hope she makes this transition from two to three (years old). She had a great little 2-year-old campaign, and Jose worked her a bit during the winter, so I felt very comfortable with him up on her today. It was a good result. It's a lovely race to win here in the spring.”

The winner's unraced dam last year produced a filly by Charlatan and she foaled a colt Feb. 13 named Flip Flop Freak (Life Is Good). Hot Beach's second dam, GSP Elusive Heat (Elusive Quality), is out of champion 3-year-old filly and GI Prioress S. heroine Xtra Heat (Dixieland Heat).

Kodiac Filly Unleashes Scintillating Turn Of Foot To Stun G2 Blue Point Sprint Foes

Just two races after her half-brother Mysterious Night (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) won the G2 Al Fahidi Fort, Godolphin's 'TDN Rising Star' STAR OF MYSTERY (GB) (f, 3, Kodiac {GB}–Mistrusting {Ire}, by Shamardal) picked up strongly in the closing stages to take the AED850,000 G2 Blue Point Sprint by 1 3/4 lengths. Her case had looked fairly hopeless for much of the 1000-metre turf sprint as she raced near the tail of the field, but Mickael Barzalona steered his charge up in between horses and her finishing kick was so potent she made up several lengths in the final 100 metres to win going away. Ponntos (Ire) (Power {GB}) ran second, with Tajalla (Ire) (Kessaar {Ire}) a neck back in third. The final time for the race was a sharp :56.14. Lifetime Record: 7-4-0-0.

Kessaar On The Move To Italy

Former Irish-based stallion Kessaar (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}–Querulous, by Raven's Pass) has been purchased by Renew Italian Breeding and will stand at Scuderia Melissa Cipriani in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy this year. Standing for €5,000, the stallion will be administered by Mattia Cadrobbi and managed by Marco Bozzi and Guido Berardelli.

Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, the G2 Mill Reef S. and G3 Sirenia S. hero was a 100,000gns Tattersalls October yearling, and raced in the colours of Mohammed Al Qatami and Khalid Al Mudhaf while trained by John Gosden. Winning three of his seven career starts–all at two–Kessaar retired to Tally-Ho in 2019. His extended family features GII Pennsylvania Derby and GII Ohio Derby winner and sire Gone Astray (Dixie Union), and his eldest foals are 4-year-olds.

At stud, he has sired 46 winners anchored by Italian stakes winner Melfi (Ire), who was third in the G2 Gran Criterium. His first-crop filly Ipanema Princess (Ire) was third in the G3 Prix Six Perfections, and he has an additional pair of stakes horses to date.

Standing alongside the Italian newcomer is Frankel (GB)'s half-brother Morpheus (GB), who will command €3,500.

Pair Of Kodiac Colts Anchor ThoroughBid Online Yearling Sale

A pair of colts by Kodiac (GB) and 34 other yearlings will go under the hammer at the ThoroughBid Online Yearling Sale on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Bidding for the first ever online-only yearling sale by a UK auction house will begin at 9 a.m. and will last approximately three hours. The catalogue is available here.

Yearlings by sires like New Bay (GB), Gleneagles (Ire), Farhh (GB), and Highland Reel (Ire) will also feature among the consigned horses. Each lot is sold with the opportunity to win the £5,000 Every 1's A Winner Bonus, to qualify for which the horses sold must win on debut aged two or three in a Flat race in any IFHA territory.

CEO of ThoroughBid, James Richardson, said, “It's a real pleasure to be the first UK-based auction house to host an online-only yearling sale. The reception this sale has had from established figures in the industry, like David and Mick Easterby, has been positive and we're delighted with the catalogue, which features some very nice pages.

“The fact that the catalogue has a host of well-proven, quality stallions represented and plenty of black-type running through the pedigrees is testament to the appetite for online sales. The importance of horse welfare as well as the ease and economy of selling online for our consignors is clear.

“Given there are no barriers to overseas bidders, and the offer of a £5,000 bonus to any debut winners in IFHA countries, we're expecting to see interest from all corners of the globe.”
