Quality Road’s Talk of the Nation Takes $1M Gun Runner S.

Off as the 6-5 chalk in Saturday's $1-million Listed Gun Runner S. at Kentucky Downs, Joe Allen and CHC's TALK OF THE NATION (c, 3, Quality Road–She's Not Here, by Street Cry {Ire}) took command in upper stretch and staved off a stinging late rally from Wadsworth to lead home a 1-2 finish for their in-form stallion. Away in good order, Talk of the Nation took up a stalking position from second early on as Smokey Mandate (Strong Mandate) made the running down the hill and towards the side of the galloping oval. Held together into the final quarter mile, the dark bay put his head in front with about a furlong to travel and kept on resolutely. Wadsworth lingered towards the back of the pack early and was committed to an overland passage at an early stage by Florent Geroux. The Godolphin homebred finished full of run down the center of the course and was gaining late, but the wire arrived in time. A maiden winner in two starts on the dirt to begin his career, Talk of the Nation took his first two tries once switched to the dirt, including Tampa's Columbia S. Mar. 11. A money-burning runner-up in the June 3 Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park, he was last seen checking in second to More Than Looks (More Than Ready) in the GIII Manila S. at Belmont Park July 7. It was the second win on the afternoon as breeder for China Horse Club, who was represented by new 'TDN Rising Star' Agate Road at Sararoga. The colt's GII Yellow Ribbon S.-winning dam was acquired by CHC for $1.3 million at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale, and is herself out of Where's Bailey, a stakes-winning half-sister to Horse of the Year Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}); MGISW Balance (Thunder Gulch); and 'Rising Star' Eblouissante (Bernardini), the dam of this year's GII Rebel S. upsetter Confidence Game (Candy Ride {Arg}). She's Not Here is the dam of a yearling colt by CHC part-owned champion Improbable and was most recently covered by Life Is Good, also campaigned by CHC in partnership. Lifetime Record: 7-4-2-0. Coin Miner Narrowly Best In Keeneland Colts’ Allowance

6th-Kentucky Downs, $255,000, Alw, 8-31, (R), 2yo, 6 1/2fT, 1:16.87, fm, 1/2 length.
COIN MINER (c, 2, Cloud Computing–Require, by Blame) finished well down the center of the course on Ellis debut July 30 to miss by a neck in third and was given a 10-1 chance to graduate in this colts' division of the Keeneland Sales allowance, restricted to horses bought or led out unsold at Keeneland September last year. Settled slightly ahead of mid-division as they raced down the hill and onto the turn, Coin Miner was held together approaching the stretch as Aspenite (Constitution) threatened to take them all the way. The latter carried a three-length bulge into the final eighth of a mile and looked home free, but James Graham conjured up one final surge from Coin Miner and the duo was along in the nick of time. The winner is the first starter and scorer for his dam, a half-sister to the late Grade III winner Recruiting Ready (Algorithms). There is plenty of action in Coin Miner's third dam, Claiborne's talented MGSW Trip (Lord at War {Arg}), not only the dam of SW Passport (Pulpit), but also of Globe Trot (A.P. Indy), whose produce include impressive young Spendthrift sire Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro), GISW Global Campaign (Curlin)–who holds court at WinStar–and MSW/MGSP Sonic Mule (Distorted Humor). Required is also the dam of a yearling Goldencents filly, a weanling full-brother to Coin Miner and was most recently covered by Mo Donegal. Sales history: $40,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $154,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.

Hidden Class Impressive In Valuable Keeneland Sales Allowance

2nd-Kentucky Downs, $256,000, Alw, 8-31, (R), 2yo, f, 6 1/2fT, 1:17.31, fm, 3 1/4 lengths.
HIDDEN CLASS (f, 2, Catalina Cruiser–Noblame {MSW, $167,023}, by Blame) kicked off her career with a closing second to Gala Brand (Violence) in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden over the Saratoga turf Aug. 3 and did her part here to flatter the form of that rival, who was to take on the boys as a 7-2 shot in the GIII With Anticipation S. later Thursday in upstate New York. Favored at a little better than 3-2 in this allowance restricted to horses sold or bought back at the Keeneland September sale, the two-time Keeneland sales grad secured the perfect spot from third, stalking dueling front-runners as they raced down the side of the track. Pulled out three wide to deliver her challenge off the final corner, Hidden Class took over with a touch less than two furlongs to race and stayed on well to post a soft success in the finish. The winner is the first produce for her dam, a dual stakes winner in West Virginia-bred company who RNAd for $285,000 in foal to Quality Road at KEENOV in 2021 before producing a filly in 2022. Purchased by Doug Arnold at this year's Keeneland January sale, Noblame foaled a colt by Violence and was subsequently covered by Justify. Sales history: $24,000 RNA Ylg '22 KEEJAN; $30,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP; $40,000 2yo '23 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $166,600. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
