Honor Code Juvenile Romps at Woodbine

2nd-Woodbine, C$107,630, Msw, 5-21, 2yo, 4 1/2f (AWT), :51.58, ft, 5 1/2 lengths.
STAYHONOR GOODSIDE (c, 2, Honor Code–Nicki Knew {SW, $386,114}, by Tethra) was favored at 6-5 in this debut and made it look like a gift with a dominant debut score at Woodbine Saturday. Away alertly, the $85,000 KEESEP buy contested the early pace and slammed the door on his rivals in the lane to win for fun by 5 1/2 lengths over Captive Silence (Silent Name {Jpn}). The winner is a half to Imperial Dream (Stormy Atlantic), SW, $156,137 and is the first winner for his dam since that one, Nicki Knew only producing two surviving foals in the eight years between them. There was no report in 2021 but Stayhonor Goodside has a 2022 half-sister by Caravaggio. This is the family of millionaire and MG1SW Hawk Wing (Woodman), GSW turned group-stakes producer Race for the Stars (Fusaichi Pegasus), and Canadian Horse of the Year & Champion grass horse Thornfield (Sky Classic). The colt's name came about by way of a contest on the TDN Writers' Room podcast, when D.J. Stable General Manager Jon Green challenged listeners to come up with a clever name based on the colt's breeding as part of a promotion sponsored by Lane's End Farm. The winning entry was submitted by Skip Anderson, a champion Hampshire sheep breeder from North Dakota. Sales history: $85,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $48,142. Constitution Filly Lives Up to the Hype

5th-Saratoga, $62,000, (S), Msw, 7-24, 2yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:05.02, ft.

IRISH CONSTITUTION (f, 2, Constitution–D’wild Ride {MSW, $622,841}, by D’wildcat) had a lot of buzz heading into this debut and was backed down to 7-2 off a 12-1 morning-line quote. The chestnut dueled for early control through a :22.81 first quarter before gaining a length advantage. Three wide turning for home, she was confronted by Party at Page’s (Gemologist) to her inside and was briefly headed by that rival, but battled back in the final strides to score by a nose. The winner’s dam produced a Bodemeister colt in 2019 and an Always Dreaming colt this year. Sales history: $40,000 Wlg ’18 KEENOV; $165,000 Ylg ’19 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $34,100. Munnings Filly Earns Rising Star Tag at Belmont

ALDA (Munnings) became the newest ‘TDN Rising Star’ Thursday with a decisive score at Belmont Park. Rallying to be third on debut in a five-panel event at this oval June 12, she was hammered down to even-money to improve over an extra furlong here. Saving ground in a joint third, the homebred was several lengths off the dueling leaders through a sharp first quarter in :21.89. Closing the gap entering the backstretch, the homebred split horses with a three-wide move turning for home and overtook Illegal Smile (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) in the lane, rolling clear to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

“Johnny [Velazquez] said she was much more professional today,” trainer Graham Motion said in a post-race interview with NYRA’s Maggie Wolfendale. “Last time, she just broke a tad slow which cost her and he kind of had to rush her a little bit. Today, she broke much better. Actually, Johnny said she was pretty sharp the first part, but he could do whatever he wanted, which really helped. She was pretty professional, I thought.”

He continued, “My theory with the 2-year-olds is if they take you to the races, just go with it, and she’s done everything right. She’s such a pro in the mornings, she makes me look good, I think.”

The winner is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Alignement (GB) (Pivotal {GB}). Her dam Soldata, a half-sister to MGSW sire Exhi (Maria’s Mon), produced an Into Mischief colt named Serifos in 2019 and a Tapit colt in 2020.
