Snapper Sinclair to Enter Stud at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds

Snapper Sinclair (City Zip–True Addiction, by Yes It's True) will retire to stud at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds for the 2023 breeding season. He will stand for $5,000 live foal, stands and nurses.

Raced by Jeff Bloom's Bloom Racing Stable and trained by Steve Asmussen, the popular bay was known for his durability, posting a career record of 39-7-9-4 and earnings of over $1.8 million. The three-time stakes winner on grass was also second in the 2020 GI Cigar Mile H.

The $30,000 KEESEP yearling and $180,000 OBS April 2-year-old was bred in Kentucky by K & G Stables.

“I love this horse because he showed up every time, whether dirt or turf, sprinting or two turns,” Bloom said. “He raced in the toughest company throughout his career and always tried.”

Asmussen had equal praise.

“What a cool horse, he's so versatile–could run on any surface and would run against anyone,” Asmussen said. “I love him and believe he deserves a chance at stud.”

John McMahon added that, “his combination of race record, pedigree and high regard for connections of Jeff Bloom and Steve Asmussen convinced us. You never know from where a stallion might come and his sire City Zip started in New York at $7,500 before he moved to Lane's End and became a leading sire. You think about iconic stallions like Storm Cat, Tapit, War Front and Into Mischief and they all stood for $10,000 at one time, and we believe Snapper Sinclair has enough of the right ingredients to become a successful stallion.”

Midnight Bisou Supplemented to Keeneland November

Champion Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute–Diva Delite, by Repent), in foal to leading sire Tapit, has been supplemented to the Book 1 section of the upcoming Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. The 7-year-old will be consigned by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.

“It's impossible to describe what she's meant to me, my family and my partners,” Jeff Bloom of co-owner Bloom Racing Stable said. “She took us on an incredible journey and created so many amazing experiences for us across the globe. All those memories I will treasure the rest of my life.”

Midnight Bisou, who earned over $7.4 million during her racing career, won the 2018 GI Cotillion S. and GI Santa Anita Oaks, as well as the 2019 GI Apple Blossom S., GI Ogden Phipps S. and GI Personal Ensign S. She was named champion older mare of 2019.

She produced her first foal, a colt by Curlin, earlier this year.

“She effortlessly transitioned to life as a broodmare with the same elegance, class and intelligence that she displayed as a racehorse,” Bloom said.

Out of Grade III winner Diva Delite, Midnight Bisou is a half-sister to recent GI Champagne S. runner-up and GI FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile candidate Verifying (Justify).

“Midnight Bisou represents the very best of Thoroughbred racing,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “She is a world-class racehorse from an active, talented family who is in foal to one of the industry's premier stallions. Keeneland is delighted to offer her during Book 1 of our November Breeding Stock Sale.”

Diva Delite, who is in foal to Gun Runner, is also cataloged to Book 1. Out of the winning Tour d'Or mare Tour Hostess, she is consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

Keeneland November's Book 1 starts Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. ET. Keeneland will accept supplements to Book 1 until the auction begins.

NYRA Welcomes TAA to Saratoga on Whitney Day

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) will host the Saratoga Community Booth for GI Whitney S. Day Aug. 6.

Patrons are encouraged to stop by the community booth to learn about the organization's mission from Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance representatives, and to make a donation in exchange for a variety of racing memorabilia and TAA swag.

Racing fans can also show their support by opting to donate to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance throughout the Saratoga meet when cashing a winning ticket on an AmTote International self-service betting terminal. All donations are tax deductible.

On the Whitney undercard, horses will don NYRA-donated Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance saddle towels for a race named in honor of the TAA. In the winner's circle after the race, the TAA will present awards to the best turned out horse and winning groom and connections.

“The Saratoga Community Booth is a great opportunity for racing fans and participants alike to learn more about the TAA,” said TAA President, Jeffrey Bloom. “We are also honored to have the TAA represented with a race on the Whitney Day card. NYRA has been an invaluable stakeholder to the TAA for many years and we're excited to continue the tradition of celebrating accredited aftercare on Whitney Day.”

The New York Thoroughbred industry is a leader in aftercare, donating more than $1.28 million toward racehorse retirement every year. In addition to the contributions made by NYRA, the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (NYTHA), the New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB), the NYRA jockey colony, and individual owners and trainers, two ground-breaking programs have been implemented at the NYRA tracks: owners contribute a per-start fee for every horse that races, and they pay a surcharge on every horse claimed out of a NYRA race. Those two programs alone raise about $500,000 every year.

“The work of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is of the upmost importance to the New York Racing Association,” said NYRA Senior Vice President of Racing Operations, Frank Gabriel Jr. “We're thrilled to highlight such a worthy organization on one of Saratoga's biggest days of racing.”
