Thursday’s Aqueduct Pick 6 Boosted By $68,497 Carryover

Thursday's Pick 6 will be bolstered by a $68,497 carryover as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $7,610.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Sunday's sequence kicked off in Race 5 with Umbria [No. 12, $10.40] graduating in a 1 1/16-mile inner turf test for New York-bred maiden for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up. Jose Lezcano piloted the winner for Linda Rice.

Empty Tomb [No. 1, $47.60] prevailed in Race 6, a one-mile optional-claiming tilt for 3-year-olds and up, under a perfect ride by Eric Cancel for trainer Robert Falcone. A trio of stakes races followed with Change of Control [No. 1, $9.90] taking the $150,000 Autumn Days, Hopeful Treasure [No. 4, $38] upsetting the $200,000 Grade 3 Fall Highweight, and Vergara [No. 3, $14.60] scoring in the $100,000 Tepin.

With the Pick 6 carryover already guaranteed, Rice and Lezcano teamed up for the second time in the sequence as Freedomofthepress [No. 8, $5.20] scored as the favorite in the 10th race finale, a six-furlong maiden claiming sprint over the outer turf.

Thursday's Pick 6 kicks off in Race 4 at 1:46 p.m. Eastern. First post on the nine-race card is 12:20 p.m.

‘All Others’ 3-5 Favorite On Closing Day Of Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 1

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the betting interest of “All Other Colts and Geldings From the 2019 Foal Crop” was the 3-5 favorite entering the final day of wagering in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Individually, the highly-regarded Jack Christopher, who is currently on the sidelines due to a stress fracture in his left shin, was the 7-1 favorite. The Chad Brown trainee is scheduled to resume training in the coming months, according to his connections.

The first pool of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager was set to close at 6 p.m. (all times Eastern) while the lone pool of the Sire Future Wager will cease wagering at 6:30 p.m.

Pool 1 assumes that horses under the care of trainers suspended from competing in the 2022 Kentucky Derby will not be under consideration. To that end, prospects Corniche, Messier, Pinehurst, and Rockefeller are not among the 22 individual betting interests and are included within the pari-mutuel field.

In the Sire Future Wager, the “All Other Sires” betting option was the 3-1 favorite over offspring sired by Gun Runner, who was 7-1.

Sunday’s Del Mar Pick 6 Mandatory Payout Features $590,935 Carryover

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif., will offer a mandatory payout on its Pick Six wager Sunday – the final day of its 2021 Bing Crosby Season – with a carryover of $590,935 amassed Saturday when nobody was able to hit the exotic wager for the 12th consecutive day.

The general situational formula for wagers of this type is that pools as large as the current one at the seaside oval normally draw somewhere in the neighborhood of seven times the carryover amount offered. That could mean that “new” money of between $3 and $4 million will be added to the pool Sunday and it all must be paid out.

The track has offered a .20¢ Rainbow Pick Six – properly called the Pick Six Single Ticket Jackpot Wager – since the start of its fall session requiring the winner of the six-race bet to be the sole ticket holder in order to cash in. But the closing day “mandatory payout” arrangement means the bet on Sunday reverts to a standard Pick Six wager where all of those with the most number of winners get paid.

Del Mar hosted the two-day Breeders' Cup Championships during its current meet on November 5 and 6, but all wagering on those events was separate from the track's 13-day fall meeting.

Sunday's nine-race card will have a first post of 12:30 p.m. The .20¢ Rainbow Pick Six starts on Race 4, which is scheduled to go off at approximately 2 p.m.
