Churchill Downs To Match Up To $20K on New Vocations’ Giving Tuesday

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI), represented by their nine racetrack properties, will match all New Vocations Giving Tuesday donations up to $20,000 in support of Thoroughbred and Standardbred aftercare. Giving Tuesday takes place five days after Thanksgiving on Nov. 28.

“CDI is pleased to jump start New Vocations' holiday giving campaign with a match donation. The work New Vocations does is vital to both the Thoroughbred and Standardbred industries,” said Cathy Shircliff, Director of Equine Industry Relations for CDI. “On behalf of Thoroughbred tracks Churchill Downs Racetrack, Colonial Downs, Ellis Park, Fair Grounds Race Course, Presque Isle Downs and Turfway Park and Standardbred tracks Miami Valley Gaming, Oak Grove Racing Gaming & Hotel and Ocean Downs Casino, thank you New Vocations for all that you do.”

New Vocations, which has already served 20% more horses in 2023 versus last year, relies heavily on donations to help rehab, retrain and rehome retired racehorses.

“We are very thankful for Churchill Downs Incorporated's generous match to support our Giving Tuesday campaign,” shared Anna Ford, New Vocations' Program Director. “We are happy to be able to provide our aftercare services to all of the CDI racetrack properties. The campaign will help us raise the much-needed funds to cover the increase in costs we have seen due to the influx of horses coming into the program this year.”

This year, the joy of giving is leveled up with an extra ounce of fun by featuring five unique Giving Challenges starting today. To ensure Giving Tuesday gifts are matched, and to participate in Giving Challenges, interested individuals are asked to donate by Nov. 28 at https://newvocations-givingtuesday.causevox.com/.

New Vocations ‘Giving Tuesday’ Amasses Over $72K

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program raised over $72,000 for racehorse aftercare on 'Giving Tuesday'. Breeders' Cup winning owners of Wonder Wheel, DJ Stable, LLC, generously pledged to match the first $30,000 raised by New Vocations in honor of the organization's 30th anniversary.

Courtesy of over 100 supporters in the equestrian and racing communities, funds were raised late into Nov. 29, and pushed over the goal thanks to a $10,000 donation made by Oak Grove Racing Gaming and Hotel, a Churchill Downs property.

“We were blown away by the tremendous response to this year's Giving Tuesday Campaign,” said Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director. “Due to rising costs in horse care, our funds have been stretched thin this year. Surpassing our fundraising goal will help us serve the hundreds of retired racehorses that go through our program.”

D. J. Stable to Match ‘Giving Tuesday’ Donations to New Vocations

D. J. Stable, LLC will match 'Giving Tuesday' donations to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program in celebration of the organization's 30th anniversary. D. J. Stable, whose Wonder Wheel (Into Mischief) won the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Nov. 4, will match up to $30,000 in support of racehorse aftercare. Giving Tuesday takes place Nov. 29 this year.

“We are so pleased to have the opportunity to partner with this wonderful organization,” said D. J. Stable's general manager Jonathan Green. “Our horses have benefited from being placed in New Vocations' aftercare programs, which prompted us to offer a matching fund for the first $30,000 contributed during the Giving Tuesday drive. We hope others follow our lead and donate to New Vocations.”

New Vocations was started in 1992 as a nonprofit organization which relies almost entirely on donations to carry out its mission to rehab, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses. Over the last 30 years, the program has served more than 8,000 horses. New Vocations also annually raises funds during a Breeders' Cup Pledge, which this year raised more than $140,000. Wonder Wheel was one of the winning horses with a part of her earnings earmarked for New Vocations.

“We are so thankful for the generous support from D. J. Stable and the Green family,” said Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director. “Their match last year helped us raise over $50,000 on Giving Tuesday and this year's match has the potential to raise more than $60,000. We have seen an increase in costs to all our program expenses, so the funding from Giving Tuesday is greatly needed to help us continue to carry out our aftercare efforts.”
