Justify Colt Becomes Latest Rising Star at the Spa

Rosedown Racing Stables LLC's Champions Dream (Justify–Dancinginherdreams, by Tapit) entered this unveiling with sparking clocker reports and lots of buzz, and made his $425,000 OBS March price tag and 6-5 odds on the tote look like value as he earned 'TDN Rising Star' status Saturday at The Spa.

Just a $25,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase by G.W. and Karen Parrish's Parrish Farms–reportedly due to concerns about his feet–the grey blossomed into a $425,000 OBS March juvenile off a sharp :20 4/5 breeze.

Turned over to Danny Gargan, the son of 2015 GII Pocahontas S. romper and fellow 'Rising Star' Dacinginherdreams was looking to become just his trainer's second juvenile debut winner at Saratoga over at least the past five years–the other among 25 to try was subsequent three-time stakes winner Dakota Gold (Freud) almost exactly a year ago.

The 13-10 chalk took a narrow early advantage and set a pressured first quarter of :22.94 before sneaking away through a :45.81 half. Cagliostro (Upstart)–himself a $385,000 OBS grad–took a run at the leader into the stretch, but Champions Dream swatted that one away and kept on to maintain a 2 1/4-length edge on the line. Well-bred longshot Prairie Dunes (Curlin) closed well to spice up the exacta.

Champions Dream becomes the 12th winner for his fast-starting freshman sire (by Scat Daddy), and third to follow that Triple Crown winner in being named a 'Rising Star'. Justify has sired three graded stakes winners thus far, and has two daughters in Sunday's GI Spinaway S.

Champions Dream is the fourth foal and first winner out of his dam, who is half to stakes-winning juvenile Doubled (Exchange Rate) and the dam of GSW/GISP Texas Wedge (Colonel John) and a full to GSP Good Pick Nick. Dancinginherdreams has a yearling colt by Flameaway (Scat Daddy), a foal filly by the same John Oxley colorbearer and she revisited the Darby Dan resident once more for 2023.

6th-Saratoga, $105,000, Msw, 9-3, 2yo, 7f, 1:23.68, ft, 2 1/4 lengths.

Expensive Tapit Wins Well at Belmont

First Foal Out of Paola Queen Makes Impressive Debut

4th-Monmouth, $56,925, Msw, 6-4, 3yo/up, 6f, 1:10.94, ft, 4 1/4 lengths.
PASS AND STOW (c, 3, Medaglia d'Oro–Paola Queen {GISW, $431,490}, by Flatter) was hammered down to 3-2 favoritism for this unveiling and ran to the money with an impressive debut score. Away alertly from his rail draw, the Don Alberto homebred seized the early advantage, dueling through a :22.86 opening quarter and :46.18 half-mile. Opening up on his foes turning for home, the bay strode clear with ease down the lane to graduate by 4 1/4 lengths. Peter Brant's Balantyne (Tapit), a $310,000 KEESEP buy trained by Chad Brown, filled the place spot. Pass and Stow is the first foal out of GI Test S. winner Paola Queen, who Don Alberto purchased for $1.7 million at the 2017 KEENOV sale. Her second foal, a now 2-year-old colt by Into Mischief, topped last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale when selling to Coolmore's M.V. Magnier for $2.6 million. Paola Queen had an Into Mischief filly in 2021 and a Tapit colt Apr. 10 of this year. Sales history: $100,000 RNA Ylg '20 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $34,500. Pricey Into Mischief Filly Scores at Woodbine

2nd-Woodbine, C$92,730, Msw, 5-14, 2yo, f, 4 1/2f (AWT), :52.41, ft, 4 3/4 lengths.

ADORA (f, 2, Into Mischief–Southern Ring {MGSW-Can, SP-USA, $343,998}, by Speightstown) was heavily favored in this debut and ran to the money with a decisive graduation. Dueling on the front end early, the $450,000 FTSAUG buy sauntered clear with ease in the lane to win by 4 3/4 lengths in :52.41. Delilah's Revenge (Good Magic) closed greenly late to get the better of a photo for second at 44-1 for her freshman sire (by Curlin).

The victress is her young dam's second foal with a 3-year-old unraced older sister named Ladywearsthering (Uncle Mo) the only other of racing age. She has a yearling full-brother on record and their dam is expecting a foal by Authentic this season. Adora hails from a productive female family being out of MGSW Southern Ring (Speightstown), herself a daughter of a stakes-winning full-sister to Canadian Champion 3-year-old filly Catch The Ring (Seeking the Gold). The aforementioned filly produced another Canadian champion with her daughter Catch the Thrill (A. P. Indy) securing juvenile honors and who went on to produce a pair of stakes fillies.

This is the family of Messier (Empire Maker), Forest Uproar (Forest Wildcat) and no less than 25 black-type earners. Sales history: $450,000 Ylg '21 FTSAUG. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $47,886. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.
