Unified Filly Runs Away with Ellis Park Maiden

CONDON CANDY (f, 2, Unified–Sweetness 'n Light, by Distorted Humor) broke well enough to go on and set the pace from two off the rail, drawing away from her rivals at the three furlong marker. Widening her advantage while being kept to her task, Condon Candy made the margin 7 3/4 lengths over Regal Humor (Kantharos), who would come on from midpack to claim second after bouncing off runners at the break. A half-sister to Stormy Sky (Sky Mesa), GSP, $223,932–who delivered a 2023 filly by Knicks Go–Condon Candy also claims the dam of SP Sweetest Princess (Cairo Prince) as a half-sibling. The victress here is the most recent to the races for her experienced dam, being the eighth from nine of age, and has a pair of half-brothers in the wings–a yearling by Global Campaign and a 2023 colt by Game Winner. Some of the most highly anticipated races during the summer racing season are the 'baby' races during the boutique meetings at both Saratoga and Del Mar and at Ellis Park, which attract its fair share of high-priced offspring from a variety of top national outfits.

Summer Breezes highlights debuting 2-year-olds at those meetings that have been sourced at the breeze-up sales earlier in the year, with links to their under-tack previews. To follow are the horses entered for Tuesday's rescheduled races as Ellis Park:

Delaware Joins Growing List Of Track Cancellations Due To Heat

Joining an ever-growing list of tracks to cancel their programs to start the weekend, Delaware Park will follow suit and reschedule their Saturday live racing card due to the excessive heat forecasted for the region, the track said in a release Friday.

Acting upon the recommendation of the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission (DTRC) veterinarians, the entire July 29 live racing card will be transferred to Friday, Aug. 4. The national weather service has predicted temperatures in the 90s with a heat index of value approaching the mid-100s. Live racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, August 2nd. First race post time is 12:30 p.m. E.T.

Elsewhere out of an abundance of caution, Woodbine Racetrack outside of Toronto cancelled its Thursday and Friday slate. The Mid-Atlantic heat caused Laurel Park to move its Friday card, while Ellis Park in Kentucky will shift its Friday and Saturday programs to Monday and Tuesday of next week. Belterra Park in Cincinnati, Ohio also scratched its Friday racing and Colonial Downs, which announced it was cancelling its Friday card Wednesday, additionally postponed its Saturday card.
