Kitten’s Joy Filly, Dialed In Colt Top Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale

The relocated Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale, transferred from its original venue and date at Fairyhouse in May to Park Paddocks, Newmarket in July due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions, saw sustained healthy and strong trade throughout the one-day session.

Overall, 125 horses were sold for an aggregate of €3,816,490 (US$4,448,506), an average price of €30,532 (US$35,588), an improvement of 9 percent compared with 2019, and a median price of €21,978 (US$25,617), an increase of 22 percent. The clearance rate was 85 percent.

The sale was conducted in sterling and four lots sold for six-figures with the Grove Stud consigned filly by Kitten's Joy fetching the top price of £220,000 (US$281,623) (Lot 74).

Her sale was a serious pinhook result for consignor Brendan Holland of Grove Stud – she cost just $27,000 as a yearling last summer.

“I bought her off my pals at Hunter Valley. She has done really well, she is a lovely, lovely filly, she has loads of quality. She was always very natural, I am delighted it is a great result,” said Holland.

The filly's sale was 2020's penultimate breeze up offering from Grove Stud and Holland added: “It is a great end to the season. I look forward to relaxing and watching Goodwood next week, but we have got yearlings in and we are starting to prep them.”

Another of the pinhook results of the day came late in the day – the colt by Dialed In, named Onesmoothoperator, purchased by Ger Kennedy of Sherbourne Lodge last autumn for $5,000, sold for £140,000 (US$179,217) today (Lot 244). He was bought by Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock, standing on the stairs with trainer David Simcock.

He didn't do a fast time at all, but he is bred to be a [mile and a quarter] horse so you would not expect it – he is out of a Medaglia D'Oro mare from Stormy Atlantic's family,” said Brown. “He is a phenomenal mover. he has a wonderful way of going. He has been bought for our Never Say Die re-sale syndicate. We will put him in a field for two weeks now and he will probably go to David's in September.”

“Ger found him late on in the U.S. at the Fasig October Sale,” said Yvonne Kennedy. “Buying yearlings in France and the U.S. has been good to us this year, and there has been a lot of interest in the horse this spring.”

Ger added: “The sale companies have all been brilliant with everything this year, and there is no place like an auction ring to find the true value of a horse.”

At the conclusion of the sale, Tattersalls Ireland Director Simon Kerins commented:

“Firstly, I would like to thank the vendors who have risen to the challenge of today's sale being relocated to Park Paddocks at the 11th hour. Like many in the bloodstock industry, the breeze up consignors have had to deal with difficult circumstances in the run up to the 2020 Breeze Up season, notably with today's sale original dated in May and they have met the change in date and venue with tremendous positivity and it was pleasing to see several vendors have excellent results.

“The bloodstock industry is truly resilient, and this was evident today by the strong demand for the choice lots. It was immensely satisfying to sell the second highest price ever for a two-year-old at the Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale with Grove Stud's Kitten's Joy filly selling for £220,000 (US$281,623) to David Simcock. There were considerable increases in the average of £27,284 (US$34,919) (up 9 percent from €27,992 (US$32,627) in 2019) and median of £20,000 (US$25,596) (up 22 percent from €18,000 (US$20,980) in 2019) considering that the numbers offered were down significantly on 2019, while the high clearance rate of 85 percent also needs to be acknowledged. We can now look forward to the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale returning to Fairyhouse Racecourse and Tattersalls Ireland respectively in 2021.

Will Take Charge Filly Fastest At Second OBS July Under Tack Session

Hip No. 245, a daughter of Will Take Charge consigned by Top Line Sales, LLC, Agent, worked a quarter in :20 4/5 to post the fastest work at the distance at the second session of the under tack show for Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age. The chestnut filly is out of stakes winner Tensas Harbor, by Private Vow, a half sister to stakes placed Harbor Pilot.

A pair of horses breezed quarters in :21 flat.

Hip No. 278, a bay colt by Bernardini consigned by Ends Well, Agent, is a half brother to graded stakes winner Trouble Kid out of Triumphantly, by Mr. Greeley, a half-sister to stakes placed Touch of Splendor.
Hip No. 300, Unshackled Love, a bay filly by Golden Ticket consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent, is out of Unshackled Rouge, by Sir Shackleton, a half-sister to stakes winning OBS graduate Be Proud.

Five horses shared honors for the session's fastest eighth, clocked in :10 flat.

Hip No. 199, a gray or roan filly by Anchor Down consigned by Woodside Ranch, Agent, is out of Storied Tale, by Tale of the Cat, a daughter of graded stakes winner Caminadora.
Hip No. 201, a bay filly by Bayern consigned by Las Palmas Farm, is out of Storming Gypsy, by Midnight Lute, a daughter of graded stakes winner Irish Gypsy.
Hip No. 326, consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, is a dark bay or brown filly by Dialed In out of Wet n' Reckless, by War Front, a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Moonlit Stroll.
Hip No. 331, a chestnut filly by Kantharos consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, is out of stakes winner Wildcat Heiress, by Wildcat Heir, a half-sister to stakes winner Babaganush.
Hip No. 337, a bay filly by More Than Ready consigned by McKee Bloodstock LLC, Agent, is a half sister to graded stakes-placed OBS graduate Convict Pike out of Witchy One, by Smart Strike, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Ultra Brat.

Hip No. 355, a daughter of Air Force Blue consigned by All Dreams Equine, Agent, turned in the session's fastest three-eighths, clocked in :33 flat. The chestnut filly is out of Zeta (IRE), by New Approach, a half-sister to stakes placed Bedale out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Beta (GB).

The under tack show continues Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. with Hip No.'s 361 – 540 scheduled to breeze.

Wicked Strong Colt Leads Third Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Under Tack Session

The third and final session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale's under tack show was highlighted on Friday by a Wicked Strong colt who covered a quarter-mile in :21 1/5 seconds.

The chestnut colt, offered as Hip 512, is the second foal out of the winning E Dubai mare E Classic, whose first foal is the stakes-placed E Rated. Champion sprinter Housebuster is in the colt's extended family, along with Grade 2 winners Something Extra and Nicole H. Wavertree Stables consigns the colt, as agent.

Five horses tied for the co-fastest time at an eighth of a mile on Friday, each breezing in :10 flat:

Hip 389, a Twirling Candy filly out of the placed More Than Ready mare Apple Cider, whose two foals to race are both winners. Grade 2 winners Hangover Kid and Who Did It And Run are in the family of this Maryland-bred, who is offered as property of Grassroots Training and Sales.
Hip 400, a Maclean's Music filly out of the placed Afternoon Deelites mare Ava G, whose four foals to race are all winners, including stakes winner Miss My Rose. Grade 2 winner Minstrel Miss is the fourth dam of this filly, who is consigned by Scanlon Training and Sales, agent.
Hip 505, a Pennsylvania-bred Fed Biz filly out of the unraced Awesome Again mare Dream Realized, who is the dam of four winners from six runners. Crane Thoroughbred Services consigns the filly, as agent.
Hip 518, a first-crop Frosted filly out of the stakes-placed Bluegrass Cat mare Enchante, whose first foal to race is a winner. SBM Training and Sales, agent, handles the filly, whose page includes champion Forty Niner.
Hip 552, a Dialed In filly out of the winning Menifee mare Fall Fantasy, who is the dam of eight runners and six winners. The filly is a full-sister to Chalon, a stakes winner and runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Her page also features Grade 1 winner Patches and Grade 2 winners Headache, La Spia, and Red Attack. She is also consigned by SBM Training and Sales, agent.

Antonio Sano Readying Pair Of Promising 2-Year-Olds For Saratoga Meet

Trainer Antonio Sano started making plans for the upcoming Saratoga Race Course meet after saddling his fourth 2-year-old winner of the Spring Meet at Gulfstream Park Saturday.

The popular Venezuela native has been particularly impressed with Papetu, a five-length winner in his Saturday debut, and Hara, a filly who also graduated with a five-length victory Friday.

“The two horses are the best horses in my barn,” said Sano, who has saddled 21 winners, five fewer than leading trainer Todd Pletcher, during the Spring Meet. “I'm going to send Papetu and Hara to Saratoga.”

Papetu was always in control over his nine rivals under Leonel Reyes. Purchased by Magic Stables LLC for $80,000 at the 2019 Keeneland September sale, Papetu is by Dialed In, the sire of Sano-trained multiple graded-stakes winner Gunnevera. The first-out win hardly surprised his trainer, but the manner in which he dismissed his rivals was a bit of a revelation.

“I expected him to come from behind and close. The race came up different. It was a surprise to me,” Sano said. “He is a good horse. I told the owner that this was a very good horse.”

A day earlier, Sano sent out Hara, who scored a dominating front-running triumph in a 5 ½-furlong dash for fillies. The daughter of Hard Spun, who is owned by Briannjenn Racing LLC, was purchased for $30,000 at the 2019 Keeneland September sale.

Sano has enjoyed success in the past while sending promising 2-year-olds from South Florida to Saratoga, most notably with Gunnevera, who scored his first graded-stakes victory in the 2016 Saratoga Special (G2) on his way to earning $5.5 million.

Earlier in the meet, Sano saddled Swaggy George, a son of Not This Time, for a four-length triumph in a five-furlong maiden special weight race taken off the turf. The Sano-trained Espia, a son of Creative Cause who finished third behind Swaggy George, came right back to capture a 5-furlong maiden special weight event on turf.
