Summer Breezes: July 22, 2022

Some of the most highly anticipated races during the summer racing season are the 'baby' races during the boutique meetings at both Saratoga and Del Mar and even at Ellis Park, which attracts its fair share of high-priced offspring from a variety of top national outfits. Summer Breezes highlights debuting 2-year-olds at those meetings that have been sourced at the breeze-up sales earlier in the year, with links to their under-track previews. Already this year at Saratoga, City Man (Mucho Macho Man), Mo Strike (Uncle Mo) and Empress Tigress (Classic Empire)–each a graduate of the 2-year-old sales–have already struck at stakes level, while the likes of juvenile purchases and 'TDN Rising Stars' Taiba (Gun Runner), We The People (Constitution) and Onesto (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) have also left their mark on graded/group competition this season. STORMBUSTER (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is a full-brother to the G1 Juddmonte International heroine Arabian Queen who debuts for the Andrew Balding stable. Jeff Smith's February-foaled homebred, a son of the G2 Lancashire Oaks winner Barshiba (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}), faces 11.

2.10 Newbury, Mdn, £6,500, 2yo, 6 1/2fT
BRESSON (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is the first foal out of the talented Shutter Speed (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who beat Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) here in the early phases of their careers before winning the G3 Musidora S. and finishing fourth in the G1 Prix de Diane. John and Thady Gosden also train this January-foaled bay, whose family includes the triple group 1 winner Foreteller

Monday's Observations features Madam Macho, a half-sister to Group 3 winner Cappella Sansevero (GB) (Showcasing {GB}).

THUNDERSQUALL (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is one of two Godolphin representatives from the Charlie Appleby stable to feature in this contest, with the son of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Pleascach (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) facing a stiff task on debut. He will have to be useful to overhaul the yard's course-and-distance runner-up Nahanni (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a relative of the G1 St Leger and G1 Hong Kong Vase hero Mastery (GB) (Sulamani {Ire}).
