Saturday's Cross Country Pick 5 featuring action from four tracks paid $3,774.50 for selecting all five winners for the 50-cent wager. The total pool was $53,291 for the sequence that included races from Monmouth Park, Woodbine Racetrack, Ellis Park, and historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Monmouth, located in Oceanport, New Jersey, kicked things off when Dream About Me defeated favorite Endless Front by a half-length in a 1 1/16-mile maiden turf contest for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up in Race 8. Trainer by Jimmy Toner and ridden by Isaac Castillo, Dream About Me rallied from seventh to complete the course in a final time of 1:45.48. She paid $13.20 on a $2 win wager.

Woodbine's Race 7 saw Hazelbrook record a 1 3/4-length win under Jason Hoyte in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden claiming contest for fillies and mares 3-and-up on the all-weather track. Hazelbrook, conditioned by Lorne Richards, paid $5 as she posted a final time of 1:16.42 at the Rexdale, Ontario-based course.

Action switched back to Monmouth for the wager's biggest upset when Trilogy edged Strong Breeze by a head to win a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint for 3-years-old and up at 18-1 odds for trainer Ronald Abrams. Trilogy, piloted by Nik Juarez, returned $39.40. The Northern Afleet gelding posted a final time of 1:05.73.

Ellis Park was the site of the lone favorite to post a victory when Amiche won by 1 1/2 lengths in a one-mile turf maiden race for fillies and mares 3-and-up in Race 8. Trained by Cherie DeVaux and ridden by Brian Hernandez, Jr., Amiche went gate-to-wire in clocking in at 1:35.06 at the track in Henderson, Kentucky. She paid $3.60.

Empire Maker Filly Flies Home First Time Out

2nd-Saratoga, $100,000, Msw, 8-1, 2yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 1:45.77, fm, head.
BLISSFUL (f, 2, Empire Maker–Belleski {MGSW, $374,586}, by Polish Numbers)    flashed some ability in her morning trials over the Keeneland main track last month, including a sharp half-mile gate move in :47 4/5 (3/62) in her penultimate move July 14. Off at an overlaid 32-5 off a 7-2 morning line, the attractive bay filly hopped slightly at the break and was clearly last to make the first turn before setting into a good rhythm at the tail for the in-form Luis Saez. Creeping into it down the backstretch while stalking favored Silvery Rill (War Front x Stays In Vegas) in her slipstream, Blissful appeared to idle some about three furlongs out, but jumped back into the bridle under an energetic ride approaching the quarter pole. Despite surrendering first run to Silvery Rill, Blissful found her best stride inside the final eighth of a mile and finished with a flourish to score by a narrow margin. A $155,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling, Blissful breezed an eighth of mile–a touch greenly–in :10 2/5 and was hammered down for $350,000 at this year's OBS April Sale. A late April foal, Blissful is a full-sister to Keri Belle, GSW, $323,140, who broke her maiden in her first try on turf at odds of nearly 10-1 at Aqueduct in 2014 before going on to land the GIII Megahertz S. at Santa Anita in 2016. Belleski, who also graduated in her first go on the grass prior to becoming a dual graded-stakes winning turf sprinter, is the dam of a yearling filly named Sparrow (Into Mischief). She was barren to Klimt for this season. Sales history: $155,000 Ylg '20 FTKOCT;$350,000 2yo '21 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $55,000. Zivo, Uncle Sigh Highlight Aftercare Day

The inaugural New York Thoroughbred Aftercare Day at Saratoga Wednesday, July 21, will feature appearances by a pair of New York-bred fan favorites, millionaire GSW Zivo (True Direction) and 2014 GI Kentucky Derby participant Uncle Sigh (Indian Charlie).

Presented by the New York Racing Association (NYRA), New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (NYTHA) and New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB), New York Thoroughbred Aftercare Day will highlight the work of a variety of organizations committed to initiatives to benefit retired racehorses.

Zivo will lead the post parade for the day's featured event at the Spa, the $100,000 Rick Violette S. Now 12, Zivo serves as the stable pony for trainer Cherie DeVaux, who was assistant to Chad Brown when Zivo was under his care. He was originally retired to stud Irish Hill Century Farm before being pensioned.

“When I found out he was being pensioned there was no other option as to where he was going,” DeVaux said. “It was just a matter of what capacity with me and my family. I'm really excited the fans will get to see him once again.”

Uncle Sigh's lone race beyond the borders of the Empire State came in the 2014 Derby. He retired through New York's TAKE THE LEAD Retirement Program to ReRun in upstate New York in January 2020.

“He acted like he had lived here his entire life,” said ReRun Executive Director Lisa Molloy. “He never missed a beat–he usually takes most things in his stride.”

More than 800 of New York's racehorses have been retired to TAA-accredited facilities through the TAKE THE LEAD Program. In addition to Zivo and Uncle Sigh, there will be demonstrations by TAKE THE LEAD graduates on the Saratoga main track before the first race Wednesday, with ReRun and New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program putting five horses through their second career paces. The demonstrations will take place between the eighth pole and the finish line from 11:45 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
