HVAF Donation Made at Horseshoe Indianapolis

Horseshoe Indianapolis made a delivery to Helping Veterans and Families of Indiana (HVAF) Friday, Dec. 16 from the special Veteran's Day event held during live racing. A Veteran's Day Challenge Handicapping Contest was held featuring 11 top handicappers from across the nation who placed wagers on the Pick 5. A total of $1,517.50 was raised through the promotion along with the delivery of 210 pounds of peanut butter collected by the jockeys at Horseshoe Indianapolis; peanut butter being one of the two most request items at the pantry alongside canned meat.

“We are currently serving 250 veterans per month from our food pantry,” said Ashlee Walls-Pierce, Vice President for Advancement. “We have served 1,230 veterans through November and distributed 56,000 pounds of food, clothing, and personal hygiene items through our pantry. We serve any veteran in our pantry and are gearing up for our organization's 30th anniversary next year.”

HVAF of Indiana, Inc. is the largest non-profit for veterans in the state of Indiana. They work tirelessly to end homelessness among veterans, offering additional solutions such as housing and re-integration services to prevent at-risk veterans from reaching that stage. New Vocations Launches 13th Annual BC Pledge

New Vocations has launched its 13th annual Breeders' Cup Pledge, in which connections of Breeders' Cup contenders pledge a percentage of their earnings to support the charity. To date, the pledge has raised over $950,000 to support New Vocations.

“This year's Pledge is extra special as New Vocations is celebrating its 30-year anniversary and the Breeders' Cup is being hosted minutes away from our main facility in Lexington,” said Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director. “We are so thankful for the owners and trainers who have supported this important fundraiser and have made it so successful.  We are hopeful the pledge will continue to grow as it has in the past and welcome even more participants to help us raise the much-needed funds to support our aftercare efforts.”

Last year's pledge raised $150,000, in which over 60 Championship contenders had owners and/or trainers who pledged a percentage of their Breeders' Cup earnings.

ARC To Support National Horseracing Museum

The Arena Racing Company (ARC) and The National Horseracing Museum (NHRM) have partnered to support the Newmarket-based charity. The multi-year deal was announced just before the start of National Racehorse Week on Sept. 10.

ARC will specifically support the work undertaken within the Rothschild Yard at Palace House, historic home of NHRM. Working with Retraining of Racehorses (“ROR”), NHRM utilise the facilities at the Rothschild Yard to educate the public on the work that goes into retraining Thoroughbred athletes after their racing careers are over. In addition, NHRM holds daily displays and talks for visitors.

David Thorpe, Chairman of ARC, said, “We are absolutely delighted to announce this partnership and our support of the fantastic work done by the team at NHRM. The Rothschild Yard is a tremendous facility that does an incredibly important job for British Racing in helping to showcase the aftercare that horses receive and really promoting it to the public.”

Anne-Marie Hogan, Director of NHRM, added, “Our thanks to ARC for this new partnership, which will allow us to continue to promote how well British racing looks after horses after their racing careers have finished.”
