James and Shari Ough Make Substantial Donation to TAA

James and Shari Ough have made a donation of $25,000 to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. The charitable contribution was presented on Saturday, Aug. 5, at Saratoga Race Course.

“We are incredibly grateful for James and Shari Ough's heartfelt donation to Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance,” said Emily Dresen, Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, Director of Funding & Events. “By championing our mission, their support enables us to provide crucial aid to accredited aftercare organizations, ultimately benefiting the well-being of countless horses in their deserving retirement.”

The check presentation took place following the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance named race at Saratoga Race Course, highlighting the invaluable role played by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance in safeguarding the welfare of Thoroughbreds beyond their racing days.

“Shari and I are incredibly fortunate, deeply humbled, and honored to support Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and its mission to ensure a secure future for retired racehorses through accredited aftercare,” said James Ough. “Our heartfelt donation signifies not just a contribution, but a gesture of hope. It is our greatest hope that this, and future donations, will serve as an inspiration for others to unite with us in giving back to these exceptional equine athletes. We owe our success to them. Together, let's make a lasting impact and pave the way for a brighter future for the Thoroughbred – and Thoroughbred Racing.”

Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance Donates Over $30K

The Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance (ITA) donated over $30,000 back to the Indiana Thoroughbred industry in 2022, including funds directly to Friends of Ferdinand's Broodmare Bunch, Children's TherAplay, and Otto Thorworth Ministries. The ITA's mission is to increase education and encourage awareness for the Indiana racing industry and the non-profit group also sponsored free webinars on nutrition, a seminar on barn fires, and a seminar on foaling and breeding season preparation.

“The board is forever grateful for the farms, owners, and businesses that continue to support the ITA in its one-of-a-kind mission,” says ITA board member Christine Cagle. “We hope to continue to grow the ITA's outreach in the years to come.”

ITA will host its third annual Stallions and Services Auction on Starquine.com from Dec. 16-19. The event offers seasons to stallions from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida, as well as stallion photography packages, veterinarian services, and marketing. All proceeds from the auction go right back into the Indiana horse industry. For more information, visit indianatb.org.

4Racing Owners Club Makes a Donation to Racing Welfare

The 4Racing Owners Club presented a cheque to Racing Welfare for £5,000 on July 4, Racing Welfare announced on Thursday. The ownership group has the winning horse Snowy Burrows (Fr) (Montmartre {Fr}) with Rebecca Menzies, and the presentation was held at Menzies's Howe Hills yard after a tour. The money was raised through members' share payments, with any surplus funds after the horse's expenses for the year going directly towards 4Racing's charitable aims.

“Not only is Rebecca Menzies a great trainer but what a host she was for our 4Racing Owners Club open day to see Snowy Burrows and the team,” said 4Racing's Graham Arnold. “Our first year's charitable syndicate with Snowy not only gave our members the thrill of winning a race but has also raised £5,000 for Racing Welfare and £1,775 for Riders Minds. We are extremely proud of what the 4Racing Club is achieving and hope to be able to work with the charity moving forward.”
