U Glow Girl Another Spa Winner for Girvin

7th-Saratoga, $83,000, Msw, 8-17, 2yo, f, 6f, 1:12.28, ft, 7 1/4 lengths.
U GLOW GIRL (f, 2, Girvin–Mexican Miss {SW, $121,055}, by More Than Ready) was one of two in this auction price-restricted maiden with previous racetrack experience, having faded to be a distant third after setting the pace as the favorite in a similar spot July 20. Bet down to 1.15-1 favoritism to give her freshman sire (by Tale of Ekati) his eighth first-crop winner, U Glow Girl contested the early pace outside of Ruler of the Night (Midnight Lute) and wrested command from that one midway on the turn. Roused right-handed by Flavien Prat nearing the entrance to the stretch, U Glow Girl padded her advantage and reported home a 7 1/4-length winner. Risk Free (American Freedom) finished with interest down the center for second ahead of the once-raced Crypto Mama (Cloud Computing). Mexican Miss, who won the Jersey Lilly S. for Brad Grady after being claimed for $30,000 five months prior, has had a standing date with Girvin since, but did not produce a foal the last two seasons. CHOP CHOP (f, 2, City of Light–Grand Sofia, by Giant's Causeway), a $230,000 FTKJUL yearling purchase and the 2-1 favorite in this spot, was never far out of it early, stalking in third close to the pace of Guns n' Lilies (Gun Runner) through mild fractions. The filly becomes her sire's (by Quality Road) fifth winner, following an impressive score by the Freshman stallion's Bourbon Bash for D. Wayne Lukas at Saratoga Saturday afternoon. Spendthrift Acquires Cyberknife’s Breeding Rights

Spendthrift Farm has acquired the breeding rights to recent GI TVG.com Haskell Invitational S. winner and GI Arkansas Derby winner Cyberknife (Gun Runner–Awesome Flower, by Flower Alley). The Gold Square LLC colorbearer will stand at the Lexington, KY farm at the conclusion of his racing career.

“We are grateful to [owner] Al Gold and his team for allowing us to acquire the stallion rights to such an exciting horse as Cyberknife,” said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift general manager. “Gun Runner has certainly asserted himself as a serious sire with his first crop, and Cyberknife is his only multiple Grade I-winning son, having impressively won two of America's biggest million-dollar Grade Is for 3-year-olds–the Arkansas Derby and Haskell.”

Toffey added, “Cyberknife is a very good-looking, very athletic colt, and I know their team believes that he is only getting better. He will be a wonderful addition to our roster when his racing career is over. In the meantime, we very much look forward to seeing what Cyberknife can accomplish on the track.”

Conditioned by Brad Cox, the $400,000 FTKSEL yearling scored a breakout victory in the Apr. 2 Arkansas Derby, and bounced back from a wide trip in the GI Kentucky Derby to annex Churchill's Matt Winn S. June 12. He set a Monmouth track record of 1:46.24 for nine panels when besting highest-level winners Taiba (Gun Runner) and Jack Christopher (Munnings) in the July 23 Haskell.

“I'm excited about teaming with Spendthrift on Cyberknife, and I look forward to watching him have a productive stallion career,” said Gold. “Cyberknife is a very athletic, tractable colt. You saw [jockey] Florent [Geroux] use him at multiple points to be able to make the winning move in the Haskell, which produced one of the fastest Ragozin numbers by any 3-year-old. We are very excited about him in the [Aug. 27 GI Runhappy] Travers and further down the road in the Breeders' Cup Classic.”

Cyberknife returned to the worktab Saturday, breezing a half at Saratoga in :49.96 (73/104).

“Cyberknife has always been a tremendous talent from day one, and he's continued to get better as a 3-year-old,” said trainer Brad Cox.

One of five Grade I winners from the potent first crop of Horse of the Year Gun Runner, Cyberknife is out of MSW/MGSP Awesome Flower and hails from the family of GISWs Well Armed (Tiznow) and American Patriot (War Front).

Quality Road Firster Runs to the Money in ‘Rising Star’ Fashion

Jace's Road (c, 2, Quality Road–Out Post, by Silver Deputy), a $510,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, put on a show at Ellis Park Saturday afternoon en route to 'TDN Rising Star' honors.

The bay worked four furlongs in :48 2/5 (2/90) at Brad Cox's Churchill Downs base July 29 and was hammered down to 7-5 favoritism while drawn on the outside in post nine against this deep-looking bunch.

He chased on the outside in third though an opening quarter in :22.47, loomed boldly under confident handling while three-wide on the turn for home and took off impressively down the stretch while under wraps to win going away by 6 1/4 lengths. Second-time starter Retained (Bayern) was second.

This is the 13th 'Rising Star' for Quality Road.

The multiple stakes-placed Out Post, from the same female family as champion Silverbulletday (Silver Deputy) and GISW Forest Secrets (Forest Wildcat), brought $250,000 from breeder Richard Santulli as a KEESEP yearling. After producing a filly by Curlin this year, the winner's dam was bred back to Quality Road.

Jace's Road is bred on a similar cross (Quality Road x Deputy Minister) as champion Abel Tasman and GISW Spring Quality.

Winning co-owner West Point Thoroughbreds was also represented by promising debut winner and $500,000 FTSAUG graduate Battle of Normandy (City of Light) in the opener on Saratoga's Whitney card.
