Behesht Moves To Whytemount Stud In Ireland

Behesht, a French stakes winner who began his stud career in the U.S., has been sold to stand at Whytemount Stud in Kells, Ireland, Thoroughbred Stallion Guide reports.

The 11-year-old son of Sea the Stars previously stood at Calumet Farm in Lexington, Ky., where he entered stud in 2018. He sold to sold to Indiana-based William Nicks for $3,500 at this year's Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, and his first foals are 3-year-olds of 2022.

Behesht had nine foals in his debut crop, and two starters. Yurena has placed in four of seven starts in Peru, while A Touch Of Spadget is still seeking her first in-the-money effort running at Tampa Bay Downs.

Bred in France by The Aga Khan, Behesht spent his early racing years primarily in his home country, winning the Prix Turenne and finishing second in the Prix Frederic de LaGrange.

He sold to Calumet Farm prior to the 2016 racing season, and raced for his new owner for two seasons before retiring to stud. He finished his career with three wins in 16 starts for $143,833.

Behesht is out of the French Group 2-winning Kris mare Behkara, whose other foals of note include French Group 1 winner Behkabad and French stakes winner Carthage. His second dam is the European champion Behera.

Ironicus Sold To Stand In Uruguay

Ironicus, a Grade 2 winner and sire of 2021 Kentucky Derby runner Helium, has been sold to stand at Haras Don Carlos in Uruguay, according to Uruguayan reporter Antonio Pato Castro.

The 11-year-old son of Distorted Humor previously stood at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., where he entered stud in 2017.

Ironicus has sired three crops of racing age, with 12 winners and combined progeny earnings of $832,395.

His leading runner has been Helium, who won the listed Display Stakes at Woodbine as a juvenile, and came back at three to win the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby, en route to crossing the finish eighth in last year's Kentucky Derby. Helium also earned placings in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes and the non-graded War Chant Stakes at Churchill Downs, and the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Charles Town.

A homebred for Stuart Janney III, and trained by Shug McGaughey, Ironicus won six of 18 career starts for earnings of $1,148,790.

He set a new course record at Saratoga Race Course for 1 1/16 miles over the turf in the G2 Bernard Baruch Stakes, and he notched additional graded victories in the G2 Dixie Stakes and G3 Fort Marcy Stakes. He was also second in a pair of Grade 1 races on the turf.

Duncan Taylor Steps Back As President, CEO Of Taylor Made Farm

Duncan Taylor, who founded Taylor Made Farm in 1976 and developed it into an industry-leading consigning, boarding, and stallion operation, stepped back as the farm's president and CEO in January, BloodHorse reports.

Under the company's new structure, Mark Taylor, previously Taylor Made's vice president of marketing and public sales operations and the youngest of the four brothers in the operation, has taken Duncan's spot as president and CEO. Frank Taylor, previously vice president of boarding operations, is now vice president of sales. Ben Taylor, previously vice president of stallions, is now president of Taylor Made Stallions.

Duncan Taylor will remain with the company as senior Thoroughbred consultant.

The next generation of the Taylor family will also be taking new positions within the organization.

Katie Taylor, daughter of Frank, is now vice president of operations. Logan Payne, the son of Taylor Made partner and Thoroughbred advisor Pat Payne, will take over as vice president of boarding and general manager of the farm.

Duncan Taylor founded Taylor Made with business partner Mike Shannon in 1976, starting as a boarding operation, and moving into sales consignment two years later, developing into a perennial leading seller at North America's biggest sales by volume, gross, and racetrack success. The operation began standing stallions in 1997, highlighted by leading commercial and racetrack sire Unbridled's Song.
