Vancouver Notches First North American-Sired Winner

Coolmore's dual-hemisphere sire Vancouver was represented by his first winner at stud on Tuesday when Nicky Two Shoes won a maiden special weight at Thistledown, Thoroughbred Daily News reports.

Nicky Two Shoes stalked the leaders from the outside in the five-furlong race, then was taken inside by jockey Luan Machado, where they eventually gained the advantage and won by a half-length. They stopped the clock in 1:00.46 over a muddy sealed track for trainer William Cowans and as a Kentucky homebred for Southern Comfort Farm.

The bay colt is out of the placed Invasor mare Wendy Wow, who was purchased by Southern Comfort Farm for $14,000 in-foal to Summer Front at the 2017 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Vancouver, an 8-year-old son of Medaglia d'Oro stood the 2017 Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky. His full-time base is at Coolmore's farm in his native Australia.

Vancouver won four of five starts during his on-track career, and earned Australia's champion 2-year-old male honors with a campaign that included victories in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes, the G2 Todman Stakes, and the G3 Canonbury Stakes.

Bred in Australia by Fairway Thoroughbreds, Vancouver is out of the stakes-placed Danehill mare Skates, whose runners also include Australian Group 1 winner Juste Momente. His second dam is the multiple Australian champion Skating.

Oleksandra To Point For Troy, Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Before She Is Offered At Auction

Team Valor International's Oleksandra came out of her Grade 1 victory over males in the Grade 1 Jaipur Stakes in good shape, except for a nick on a lower front limb as a result of runner-up Kanthaka bearing into her at the break.

Trainer Neil Drysdale has decided to leave her at Belmont Park instead of returning her to Southern California. She will point for the Grade 3 Troy Stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on grass for a $200,000 purse on the Travers Stakes undercard on Aug. 8 at Saratoga.

The 6-year-old daughter of Animal Kingdom may have one more race before contesting the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland.

“That will be her last race for Team Valor,” said Barry Irwin of Team Valor International. “She will be offered for sale after the BC at an auction in Kentucky with an as-yet undetermined agent.”

William Nader of the Hong Kong Racing Club tendered an invitation to the mare for “the world's richest turf sprint on December 13” so it is possible the mare's new owner could race her there or in Dubai over the winter before sending her off to the breeding shed.

Oleksandra became the first Australian-bred to win a Grade 1 in North America since the Pattern Race scheme went into being in 1974.

Her 101 Beyer Speed Figure was bettered on Saturday's Belmont Stakes card only by runaway Grade 1 Acorn Stakes winner Gamine.

Sir Prancealot Due Back To Australia For Southern Hemisphere Season

Fast-rising international sire Sir Prancealot will ship to Cornerstone Stud in Australia for the 2020 Southern Hemisphere breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of AUS$9,900 (US$6,858).

The 10-year-old son of Tamayuz entered stud in Ireland in 2013, and shuttled to Australia for the first time in the summer of 2017, making his first Southern Hemisphere-born foals 2-year-olds of 2020. He stood the Northern Hemisphere season in the U.S. for the first time in 2020, residing at Rancho San Miguel in San Miguel, Calif., for an advertised fee of $15,000.

Though this was his first season in the U.S., Sir Prancealot's Irish-born runners created the demand for him to stand domestically prior to his arrival with their high-level stateside performance. His top U.S. runners include Grade 1 winner Lady Prancealot, and Grade 2 winners Beau Recall and Madam Dancealot.

Sir Prancealot's first Australian-born foals sold into stables including Gai Waterhouse, Tony McEvoy, Lindsey Smith and Gordon Richards.

Sir Prancealot is out of the French stakes-winning Catrail mare Mona Em, whose foals also includes stakes winner Nice Applause.
