New Vocations Aiken Show Raises $150,000

The New Vocations All-Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show, presented by Iris Smith Stables, LLC, has wrapped up its June 3-6 run by raising over $150,000. Held for the second year in Aiken, S.C., the show–which is in its 19th year–nearly doubled the number of horses competing with more than 165 Thoroughbreds from 15 states. All proceeds from the event, which includes classes in a variety of disciplines, go directly to New Vocations to support efforts to rehab, retrain, and rehome retiring racehorses.

“This show is always a true testament to how versatile the Thoroughbred is and how much the show and sport horse communities value this exceptional breed,” said Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director. “It was so rewarding to see so many exhibitors travels hundreds of miles to compete, network, and celebrate the Thoroughbred.

“We feel very blessed to have the continued support from our sponsors, the majority of which are Thoroughbred owners, breeders, and industry organizations. We wouldn't be able to put on a show of this caliber without their loyal support.”

New Vocations is in the midst of a year-long 30th anniversary celebration. Planning is already underway for the 2023 show, with more information available at newvocations.org/events as it becomes available.

Entries Open for New Vocations Virtual Horse Show

With its annual in-person charity horse show cancelled due to COVID-19, New Vocations opened entries for its first All-Thoroughbred Virtual Horse Show Tuesday. Exhibitors from all over the country can compete by filming their rides at any location and uploading the videos for judging in the virtual show.

“This has definitely been a challenging year with all of our live events being cancelled, so we are excited to be able to launch the New Vocations All-Thoroughbred Virtual Horse Show,” said New Vocations Thoroughbred Program Director Anna Ford. “We were very fortunate that the majority of our annual horse show sponsors graciously agreed to carry over to the virtual show. New Vocations, T.I.P. Cancel Fall Horse Shows

New Vocations Racehorse has canceled its 2020 All-Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show, a dressage and combined test event, slated to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. Oct. 3. The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) followed suit and canceled its dressage and combined test championships, originally slated for Oct. 4.

“It was a difficult decision to cancel the October show, but we feel that the safety of our show team and exhibitors is the most important,” says Anna Ford, New Vocations Thoroughbred Program director. “It has been a struggle this year as all of our live fundraising events have been cancelled. However, we have some virtual events in the works that we hope to launch in the near future.”

Run concurrently, the two shows typically host more than 400 Thoroughbreds at the Kentucky Horse Park each fall.

“T.I.P. continues to explore consolation competition options for early 2021,” added Kristin Werner, senior counsel for The Jockey Club and coordinator of T.I.P. “We look forward to the 2021 championships next fall.”

Horses qualified and declared by the August 3 deadline for the 2020 championships will be eligible to participate in the 2021 events. A list of those horses is available at tjctip.com/About/CSDH.
