A few weeks ago, this was not what I thought I would be writing. I had hoped that I would be saying that Dom and I had made it to Kentucky and were excited to be competing at the Thoroughbred Makeover and achieving my dream of showing at the Kentucky Horse Park. But, unfortunately, that is not the case and Dom and I did not make the trip down to Kentucky.

Knockemdown Wins Overall Champion at Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover
This past week in Lexington, Ky., the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover took place at the picturesque Kentucky Horse Park, where 403 racehorses competed in various disciplines, showcasing their versatility and readability. Some horses boasted graded accolades and earnings in the six figures for their careers, while others never reached the starting gate.

Here we are, less than a week from leaving for Kentucky for the 2023 Makeover. It’s amazing to think that this is the accumulation of almost two years of blood, sweat and tears. Both celebratory and dismal – but hey, this is horses!
Mareworthy Charities Calls Upon Public Support
Mareworthy Charities, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and caring for retired Thoroughbred broodmares, is participating in the Community & Cause voting campaign, hosted by Field & Main Bank. The campaign offers the organization an opportunity to secure a $20,000 prize, directly benefitting the care and support of the Thoroughbred mares already in their care while expanding their capacity to assist more retired broodmares in 2024. In addition to the $20,000 prize, the winning organization will gain valuable exposure through airtime on WKYT, coverage by LEXtoday, and a full-page ad in TOPs Magazine. Public voting for the award began Oct. 2 and continues until Tuesday, Oct. 31.
