Pennsylvania Derby, Cotillion Highlight Parx’s 2023 Stakes Schedule

Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pa., has released the 2023 stakes schedule featuring 31 stakes races with purses in excess of $6 million anchored by the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) and the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) which are slated to be held on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The stakes-laden Pennsylvania Derby Day card will include ten stakes races with purses totaling $3,650,000. The undercard will feature three graded stakes races – the $400,000 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2), the $250,000Turf Monster (G3), the $200,000 Greenwood Cup (G3), as well as the $300,000 Parx Dirt Mile along with four other stakes races.

The spring stakes schedule kicks off on April 24 with the $100,000 Page McKenney Stakes and the $100,000 Unique Bella Stakes for fillies and mares. June will see a trio of turf stakes with the PTHA President's Cup being contested on Father's Day June 18 and the Crowd Pleaser and Power By Far Stakes on Monday June 26.

After the summer break in August, the Pennsylvania breeding industry will take center stage as Parx will host Pennsylvania Day at the Races on Monday, August 21. The day will showcase Pennsylvania-bred horses with seven stakes races on the card. The stakes action continues the following day on Aug. 22 featuring the $200,000 Cathryn Sophia Stakes and the $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes (G3). Both races serve as major preps for the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) and $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) on Sept. 23.

Winter racing will bring three $200,000 stakes races for 2-year-olds – the Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes on Nov. 28 alongside the Wait for it Stakes and Miss Behaviour Stakes on Dec. 27.
