National Museum Of Racing Resumes Construction On New Hall Of Fame Education Experience

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. recently resumed construction on the new Hall of Fame Education Experience after a two-month delay because of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent “New York State on PAUSE” executive order.

The Museum, which has been closed for the renovations since January, was originally scheduled to open to the public on July 16 coinciding with opening day at Saratoga Race Course. A new opening date for the Museum will be announced later this summer.

“We're excited that we are able to move forward with the Hall of Fame Education Experience,” said Cate Johnson, the Museum's director. “This is an important project for the Museum and the sport of thoroughbred racing and we look forward to sharing it with everyone as soon as possible. The work is going well and we are adhering to all state regulations and best practices related to health and safety.”

The Hall of Fame Education Experience will feature a reimagined and dynamic new Hall of Fame, including a state-of-the-art signature film and cutting-edge interactive Hall of Fame digital plaques. The new digital inductee plaques will include an in-depth multi-media look at the lives and careers of each human and equine member of the Hall of Fame. The project also includes a complete renovation of the adjoining Race Day Gallery and other updates throughout the Museum.

The new Hall of Fame will inspire existing and new fans through the understanding of the deep level of mastery of craft required of thoroughbreds, jockeys, trainers, owners, and breeders to reach the highest levels of the sport, as well as establish a new standard for dramatic and immersive interactive experiences throughout the Museum.

To date, the Museum has raised more than $13 million toward the Hall of Fame Education Experience, which was announced in August 2018. The project's campaign goal is $20 million. Prince of Lir’s The Lir Jet Wins the Norfolk

Having broken the all-aged track record on debut at Yarmouth June 3, Qatar Racing’s acquisition The Lir Jet (GB) emulated the 2009 success of his sire Prince of Lir (Ire) in this G2 Norfolk S. Registering the first success for his first-season sire on fast ground at the East Anglian venue, the 9-2 shot had easier conditions to deal with here and also a trailblazing Wesley Ward runner to deal with as Golden Pal (Uncle Mo) powered over the easy turf. It took until the final yards for the Michael Bell-trained bay to get to the US raider, but Oisin Murphy found the line in time to prevail by a neck, with three lengths back to Imperial Force (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) in third.

Dandy Man’s Dandalla Streets Albany Rivals

Off the mark over five furlongs at Newcastle June 2, Nick Bradley Racing and Elaine Burke’s Dandalla (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) really turned it on in Friday’s G3 Albany S. as she came home alone. Sent off at 13-2, the bay travelled with zest anchored in rear by Ben Curtis as Flying Aletha (Tiznow) cut out the running. Moving between rivals with menace approaching the two pole, she was in front soon after and galloped resolutely to the line for an emphatic six-length success from the 11-4 favourite Setarhe (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}), with Mother Earth (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) a neck back in third.

Unbeatens Meet Grade I Winner in Acorn

Unbeaten ‘TDN Rising Star’ Gamine (Into Mischief) will look to take her record to a perfect three-for-three while making her stakes debut in the GI Longines Acorn S. at Belmont Park Saturday.

The highly regarded $1.8-million Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale topper debuted with the easiest of victories as the 1-9 favorite sprinting at Santa Anita Mar. 7, then gamely held off the hard-knocking subsequent GII Santa Oaks runner-up Speech (Mr Speaker) by a neck in front-running fashion in her two-turn debut in an optional claimer at Oaklawn May 2. The even-money morning-line favorite will be on the engine from her rail draw with Hall of Famer Johnny Velazquez in the irons.

“We took our time with her, let her develop,” Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said of the Michael Lund Petersen colorbearer. “Her two races have been really nice races. I could have stayed home and run her here two turns in the [Santa Anita] Oaks, but I wanted to give her a couple extra weeks. I thought the Acorn with the bigger, wider turns, I think she’ll like that. And it’s a lot of prestige.”

Perfect Alibi (Sky Mesa), heroine of last summer’s GI Spinaway S. at Saratoga, is the seven-horse field’s lone graded winner. A well-beaten second behind British Idiom (Flashback) in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. at Keeneland Oct. 4, she kicks off her sophomore season following a fourth-place finish behind last year’s champion 2-year-old filly in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

“She’s been ready to run for about three months,” newly minted Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse said. “She’s always been very, very professional. If anything, she’s a little better work horse than she was. Last year, if you wanted to give some confidence to another horse you’d just work them with her because she’d let anybody beat her–except when they run in the afternoon. This year and recently, she’s been a little more aggressive in her works.”

The lightly raced and unbeaten Casual (Curlin) paired up 90 Beyer Speed Figures in a pair of hard-fought tallies, including an optional claimer going seven furlongs at Churchill Downs last time May 22. She makes her stakes debut for Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen here.
