Castle Hill Gaming Makes First Historic Horse Racing Installation In Kentucky

Castle Hill Gaming, one of the nation's leading gaming software developers, has announced its first installation of Historic Horse Racing (HHR) machines in Kentucky. On July 11, Castle Hill installed 24 of machines at the Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.

As a proud member of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Castle Hill Gaming is delighted to support Kentucky's renowned horse racing industry.

“Castle Hill is excited to begin operations in Kentucky,” said Arthur Watson, CEO of Castle Hill Gaming. “We are proud of our quality fun machines that are already being enjoyed by patrons throughout the United States.”

HHR machines have raised $87 million in taxes in Kentucky since 2011, and $33 million of these taxes have supported Kentucky's thriving horse industry, an industry employing approximately 80,000 people and contributing $1.6 billion to the state's GDP.

Ellis Park is a longstanding fixture of Kentucky's horse racing history. Once limited to only live horse racing, Ellis Park is now on track to become a year-round entertainment and gaming destination bringing tourism and strengthening the local economy.

“The installation of Castle Hill's HHR machines is a part of our ongoing, exciting developments,” said Jeff Inman, General Manager of Ellis Park Racing and Gaming.

The New York Racing Association is inviting fans to celebrate the 2020 summer meet at historic Saratoga Race Course remotely with an assortment of virtual events and downloadable content.

For the 40-day meet that runs from July 16 through Sept. 7, fans can access the “Your Summer Place” experience via the NYRA Events page. Posters, tip sheets, recipes and more will be added throughout the meet to help fans stay close to the racing action from the comfort of their own homes.

“Your Summer Place” will provide an immersive, at-home initiative designed to maximize the ways fans can experience the action at the Spa while still adhering to New York state guidelines regarding live racing without spectators in attendance.

Magic Memory May Be Facing Retirement

Magical Memory (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}) may have time called on his career after re-aggravating an old injury. The 8-year-old gelding was preparing to return from a two-year layoff at last month’s Guineas meeting when he came up slightly lame just days before. A scan before the end of the month will determine his future.

“He was working so well with the likes of Khaadem, but then he was found to be slightly lame in the same leg he injured previously–three days before declaration,” said Sam Hoskins, manager of the Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds syndicate. “He had one scan at the end of last month and the leg still wasn’t quite there and he will have another one in the next fortnight. If there is any risk there at all we will retire him.”

Magical Memory’s first big-race win came in the Stewards Cup of 2015, and he went on to collect the G3 Abernant S., G2 Clipper Logistics S. and G3 Hackwood S. over the next two seasons for trainer Charlie Hills.

“We were looking forward to having fun in some of those big handicaps with him as he had been eased a few pounds by the handicapper and the signs were still there before his setback that he was enjoying it,” Hoskins said. “He doesn’t owe us anything, though, and he has been an honourable servant. We are not going to force him to race again–the leg has got to be better for him to do so.”
