NYRA Announces Mandatory Empire 6 Payout For Saratoga Closing Day, Sept. 7

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced the Monday, September 7 card at Saratoga Race Course will feature a mandatory payout of the Empire 6, which boasted a jackpot of $279,627 heading into Wednesday's card at the Spa.

Live coverage of all the races in the sequence will be available with Saratoga Live on FOX Sports and MSG+. Free Equibase-provided past performances will be available for races that are part of the Saratoga Live broadcast and can be accessed at https://www.nyra.com/saratoga/racing/tv-schedule.

Monday's card, which closes out the 40-day Saratoga summer meet, is highlighted by the Grade 1, $250,000 Runhappy Hopeful at seven furlongs for 2-year-olds; and the $85,000 Lure, a 1 1/16-mile turf test for older horses.

Live racing will then move to Belmont Park for the 27-day fall meet, featuring 38 stakes worth $5.58 million in purse money, that will kick off on Friday, September 18 and run through Sunday, November 1.

The Empire 6 requires the bettor to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the card. On non-mandatory payout days, if one unique ticket exists, then 100 percent of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover if applicable, will be paid to the winner. If there is no unique wager selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, then 75 percent of the day's net pool will be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races. The remainder will be added into the jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.

Fillies Star in Thursday Action

Andrew Balding is looking forward to saddling Jeff Smith’s Newbury novice scorer Alcohol Free (Ire) (No Nay Never) in Thursday’s G3 Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ S. at Salisbury. One of 14 juvenile fillies set to line up for the six-furlong contest, for which she is due to break from the outside stall, the bay is held in high regard by her Kingsclere handler. “The filly has huge potential,” he said. “The draw could have been a little kinder. We’re stuck out on the wing again, but she’s a filly we think a lot of, so I’d hope she’d run very well.” Withdrawn from Goodwood’s G3 Prestige S. on Saturday, the McMurray Family’s Happy Romance (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) stays at the six-furlong trip over which she captured York’s Goffs UK Premier Yearling S. Aug 20, having won the five-furlong Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury July 19, while Ralph Beckett puts forward Qatar Racing’s June 28 Listed Empress Fillies’ S. scorer Time Scale (GB) (Charm Spirit {Ire}).

At ParisLongchamp, the G3 Prix d’Arenberg over five furlongs sees Wesley Ward try to pull off a group-race double with another filly in Stonestreet Stables’ unbeaten Aug. 2 Colleen S. winner Wink (Midshipman). With the stable’s Campanelle (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) having put Livachope (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) in his place in the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville Aug. 23, Ward has a line to Alain Jathiere, Alain Chopard and Guy Pariente’s bay who reverts to the trip over which he excelled when winning the June 14 Listed Prix la Fleche at Chantilly and July 2 G3 Prix du Bois here.
