Aqueduct, Laurel, Charles Town Among Saturday Cancellations Due To Late Winter Storm

A late winter snowstorm that arrived midway through Friday's program at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Ark., moved north and east, prompting cancellations at several tracks on Saturday, including Aqueduct in New York, Laurel Park in Maryland and Charles Town in West Virginia.

Turfway Park in northern Kentucky scrapped the last five races on its Friday night card and Remington Park in Oklahoma proactively cancelled its Quarter Horse card on Friday night.

Following are statements from each track cancelling on Saturday:

New York Racing Association
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled Saturday's live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack due to a powerful winter storm forecast to impact the New York City metropolitan area throughout the day.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for the downstate region. The NWS forecast, which aligns with NYRA's independent weather services, is calling for accumulating snow with sustained high winds and gusts up to 50 mph.
Saturday's featured $100,000 Correction will be re-scheduled for Saturday, March 19.
Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open for simulcasting.
Live racing at Aqueduct will resume on Sunday, March 13 with a nine-race card featuring the $100,000 Damon Runyon. First post on Sunday is 1:20 p.m. Eastern.

Maryland Jockey Club

A powerful winter storm passing through the Mid-Atlantic region has forced the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Saturday's live nine-race program at Laurel Park.According to the National Weather Service, the Baltimore/Washington area and northeastern Maryland were forecast to experience rapidly deteriorating conditions as rain turned to heavy snow at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, with gusty winds.

Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft and the MJC OTB Network will remain open for simulcasting.

Live racing is scheduled to return Sunday to Laurel with a nine-race program starting at the new post time of 12:40 p.m.

Race 8 is a stakes-quality allowance for fillies and mares 4 and up sprinting 5 ½ furlongs that attracted multiple stakes winner Dontletsweetfoolya, making her return to Laurel after a try on the all-weather surface at Turfway Park; 2021 Willa On the Move winner Kaylasaurus, most recently fourth in the Barbara Fritchie (G3) Feb. 19; and Princess Kokachin, the even-money program favorite who upset Hello Beautiful in the 2021 Poliltely.

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races

Due to the effects of the winter weather having moved through the region, Charles Town's live racing program scheduled for Saturday evening March 12 has been cancelled. The track is scheduled to resume live racing on Wednesday night with its standard first race post time of 7:00 P.M. EST.
