Australian Turf Club Unveils Live Weather, Wind Data At Four Racetracks

Punters and racing industry participants will have access to live weather, wind and track information under a new digital service hosted by the Australian Turf Club and sports and racing technology experts tripleSdata.

The ATC Weather Tracker provides wind speed and direction, rainfall, humidity and air temperatures – updated live in some cases every 15 seconds – and from multiple points across a racecourse.

Linked to the industry-leading weather service will be information and data relating to tracks, including soil compression and water content, in addition to regular and current information of track ratings and rail positions.

All information will be available via mobile app, the Australian Turf Club website, broadcast platforms and across on-course TV screens.

Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick including meetings on the Kensington track will be the first to have the service starting from Saturday 20 August for the opening Group 1 race of the season the $750,000 Winx Stakes meeting, before the technology is further rolled out at Canterbury and Warwick Farm.

The information will be invaluable to trainers and participants as well as Racing NSW Stewards and Australian Turf Club tracks teams throughout racedays.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said the service would be a leader in world racing.

“The ATC Weather Tracker provides instant and accurate information to punters, owners and on course customers and ATC Members, as well as all across the racing industry at Sydney racecourses,'' Mr Ross said.

“Punters can view via detailed graphics winds speeds, directions and weather conditions from every angle of our racecourses and as they change throughout a day.
“Sydney's world-class racing now has an extra new world-leading service for punters.''

Carlos Santo founder and CEO of tripleSdata said: “tripleSdata has been working for over two years to develop and deliver this industry-leading weather technology to Australian Turf Club racecourses for the benefit of punters and industry professionals.

“Weather plays a key role in how a track is prepared and ultimately races; it's a vital component to how horses perform.''

Links to each of the weather stations at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens can be viewed here at Weather and Track Details along with the latest track update with Royal Randwick's Racecourse Manager Michael Wood.

The release of the ATC Weather Tracker coincides with further new links to training tracks and trainers information at Australian Turf Club training centers and stables.

Star Stayer Stradivarius ‘Not Saying Goodbye Yet,’ To Appear In Friday’s Lonsdale Cup

The Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup this Friday at the Sky Bet Ebor Festival at York Racecourse has been earmarked for star stayer Stradivarius. Retirement had been considered by Stradivarius's connections, however following his neck defeat to Kyprios at Goodwood, his owner Bjorn Neilsen has indicated that the Group 2 will be his next target.

Nielsen told Racing Post he believes his star 8-year-old hasn't lost a step, despite defeats in two starts this year.

“No disrespect to Kyprios, who's the new young stayer on the block, but with a bit better luck we might have won both the Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup,” said Nielsen. “His longevity is extraordinary. I think he has lasted so long because he is like his father [Sea The Stars]. He just does enough in his races, he never bottoms himself. He kind of goes through the motions but rarely takes more than 80 or 90 per cent out of himself.”

This Friday, Stradivarius will again be ridden by Andrea Atzeni, following the well-publicized drama between Gosden and longtime stable jockey Frankie Dettori.

Prior to the Goodwood Cup, Nielsen told The Sun: “Frankie Dettori, who has enjoyed a great relationship with Stradivarius and ridden him to many brilliant stakes victories – more than he has any other horse – will by mutual agreement give up the ride to Andrea Atzeni in the Goodwood Cup.

“Frankie remains not only 'the Strad's' biggest fan but a very good friend. I look forward to seeing him continue his phenomenal career as one of the greatest big-race jockeys of all time.”

Stradivarius has won 20 of his 35 races and 18 at Group level, including a record 6 wins on the Knavesmire, with three in the Lonsdale.

Trainer John Gosden believes Stradivarius retains all his enthusiasm and after the Goodwood Cup told Racing TV: “He ran a superb race. Our only frustration was we ended up on our own towards the inner and at his age he likes something to run with, but it was a wonderful run.

Bjorn Nielsen told ITV Racing immediately after the Goodwood race: “We are not saying goodbye yet after that! He ran today with his normal enthusiasm and there is no point stopping here right in the middle of his season. It was a great performance by him today.”

Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Catalogue Now Available

Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 279 entries for its California Fall Yearlings sale, to be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Fairplex in Pomona, California. The sale will begin at 11 a.m. PDT.

“We had a very strong sale last year, and as a result, breeders have supported us with increased numbers in 2022,” said Fasig-Tipton California Representative Mike Machowsky. “The vast majority of yearlings catalogued are California-bred, and the sire power represented is an attractive blend of leading local and national sires, as well as exciting young sires.”

Fasig-Tipton will also offer a supplemental catalogue of horses of racing age, to be sold immediately following the conclusion of the yearling catalogue. The company is accepting horses of racing age nominations through Sept. 5.

“With Santa Anita offering a ship and win program for its autumn meet, we feel this is an attractive venue for horses from out of state that qualify for that program, in addition to horses that have been racing locally,” added Machowsky. “The Santa Anita autumn meet begins three days after this sale, so the timing is perfect.”

Print catalogues are now available. The catalogue may also be viewed online and via the equineline sales catalogue app.
