Goffs Orby Moves To Newmarket

The Goffs Orby Sale will for the second straight year be staged away from its traditional home in Co. Kildare, this year taking place at Tattersalls's Park Paddocks in Newmarket as the result of an agreement between the two sales companies. Originally slated for Sept. 28 and 29, the sale will now be held across two evening sessions on Sept. 24 and 25 after racing at Newmarket and with a daytime session on Sept. 26. The sale will, therefore, be held in conjunction with the Cambridgeshire meeting that features the G1 Cheveley Park S. and G1 Middle Park S.

The Goffs Sportsman's Sale, which traditionally follows on from the Orby Sale, will remain in Ireland and be held in conjunction with the Goffs Autumn Yearling and HIT Sale on Nov. 1 and 2.

The Goffs changes were announced after the Irish government announced it will scrap plans to resume indoor hospitality from July 5 amid concerns about the Delta Covid-19 variant. Ireland's travel and quarantine rules remain among the strictest on the continent. Last week, a UK buyers' bubble established by Tattersalls Ireland that facilitated around 100 UK residents to travel to Ireland for the Derby sale was quashed by the government on the morning of the sale. Referring to that episode, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “Last week's events mean that there is currently no confidence in our ability to hold the prestigious Orby Sale in Ireland whilst the current travel restrictions into Ireland remain in place. The overseas buyers 'bubble' that worked so well for the Goffs Land Rover Sale was being replicated at the Derby Sale but was inexplicably withdrawn at the eleventh hour and there is simply no way that vendors, or Goffs, can take the risk that the same thing could happen on the eve of the Orby Sale as there is too much at stake.

“In 2020 we took a later decision to move Orby to our UK sales complex in Doncaster but it is well known that the results were disappointing to say the least and potential Orby vendors have made it clear that is not an option that would be embraced. Therefore we feel it is in the best interests of Irish vendors selling in Orby to clearly state that the sale will be held in Newmarket in conjunction with some top class racing, as we cannot confidently deliver overseas buyers to Kildare, making it impossible for us to properly promote our world-class catalogue to an international audience.

“In many ways this is a disappointing move to have to make but we feel we have been left with no choice by recent events, as yearling vendors need certainty given the value of the yearlings we are asking them to commit to Orby. Our fervent hope and belief is that we will back in Kildare Paddocks for Orby 22 as the Irish National Yearling Sale belongs in Ireland.

“At this point I would like to thank Edmond Mahony and his Tattersalls' colleagues for giving us the option to essentially rent Park Paddocks and accommodate what is a competitor sale. The last 18 months have required all of us to work together in ways we could never have imagined and, whilst there has been plenty of mutually beneficial cooperation and give and take, this is a step further than anything else. We do not underestimate the magnitude of this generous gesture.”

The deal deploys an extended range of XB Net's live pictures, data and betting services from a peerless network of over 60 North American tracks (over 75 percent of U.S. horse racing) allowing Sisal to flexibly fill its programming timetable with a prolific pipeline of rapid-cycling betting opportunities which are proven to enhance engagement for new and existing fans of the sport.

Sisal is constantly updating its sports-betting services by optimising its user interface across the brand's web and mobile platforms to elevate the customer experience. Its sportsbook is operated in partnership with MST, whose proprietary platform offers clients everything necessary with which to run a responsible betting business across online, mobile and retail.

The daily schedule of engaging content, which neatly complements Italy's domestic racing action, provides Sisal with a reliable source of fast-settling betting content between 18:00 and 05:00 CET. This immersive action is proven to capture and retain the attention of audiences during competitive digital-entertainment cycles, driving new revenue streams across many of the planet's most prestigious horse races. These include the Pegasus World Cup, and two legs of this summer's recent Triple Crown, featuring the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, alongside the season's flagship finale at the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar (5-6 November).

XB Net is the proven pacesetter for live North American racing content, managing international rights, data, odds and live broadcast and video streaming on behalf of its growing global portfolio of partners. Harnessing low-latency feeds from more than 2,500 meetings, showcasing over 25,000 races per year, North American racing is engaging more and more bettors as worldwide operators plug the gaps on an uncertain sporting calendar.

Currently working with many of the world's leading fixed-odds, spread-betting and commingled wagering companies (such as Flutter Entertainment, bet365, William Hill, Playtech and Entain) XB Net enjoys a growing geographic footprint in mature and emerging markets across Europe, the UK & Ireland, Asia, North and Central America, and Australia.

Massimo Temperelli, Managing Director of Betting at Sisal, said: “During recent lockdowns, our customers soon came to appreciate the fresh excitement and value that US racing brings to their betting experience, providing a trustworthy and regular flow of quick-fire betting opportunities which hit the mark, whether they're interested in watching one race or the entire card.

“Since Italy's daily domestic racing is primed to transition neatly into high-quality evening meetings stateside, top-class 24/7 programming is now the new normal for our players, thanks to this developing collaboration with XB Net and their expertise in wagering solutions. We can't wait to see how these progressive products continue to perform over the forthcoming highlights, like the Breeders' Cup World Championships.”

Simon Fraser, Senior Vice President of International at XB Net, added: “Sisal is a giant brand whose expertise and trademark customer care is best in class. Therefore, it's a perfect moment to partner with their optimised Italian sportsbook, which has quickly embraced the merits and utility of North American racing. While domestic racing is back in full swing in Italy, those players who were drawn to North American racing during the pandemic have mostly been retained which represents another key validation of our product.

“Wherever you set your scene in the world, delivering the right content at peak leisure-times remains paramount during a new era of variability for any sportsbook tab. XB Net's wide range of low-latency racing solutions and racetracks are now ensuring the requisite elasticity for Sisal.”

Trio Of Cross Country Stakes Wins Net Florent Geroux Jockey Of The Week Title

With two stakes wins at Canterbury Park and a graded stakes win at Churchill Downs, Florent Geroux was voted Jockey of the Week for June 21 through June 27. The award, which is voted on by a panel of racing experts, is for jockeys who are members of the Jockeys' Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 active riders in the United States as well as retired and permanently disabled jockeys.

Geroux doesn't travel to Canterbury Park often to ride, but on Wednesday evening with four mounts during the Northern Stars Turf Festival he won two stakes with a second and third. The team of Trainer Brad Cox and Geroux won the Curtis Simpson Oaks with Saranya who went off as the favorite in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies. She raced three deep while tracking the leaders on the backstretch, taking command at the furlong marker and held off a late charge from Amalfi Princess with a final time 1:35.04 for the mile.

Cox and Geroux struck again in the Mystic Lake Mile for 3-year-olds and up with Hieronymus. The second choice in the field of nine, Geroux had Hieronymus forwardly placed just off the pacesetter racing to the backstretch. He closed the gap through the stretch to prevail by a nose on the wire in 1:32.93, establishing a new track record for the mile.

Returning to Churchill Downs on Saturday, the Cox/Geroux team went postward with Set Piece (GB) in the Grade 2 Wise Dan for 4-year-olds an up. Somelikeithotbrown was on the lead early, while Set Piece (GB) ran in ninth. At the head of the lane, Set Piece (GB) closed ground while still seven lengths behind Somelikeithotbrown. Inside the eighth pole, Geroux guided Set Piece (GB) inside to rally past Somelikeithotbrown to win by a half-length in 1:40.50 for the one and one-sixteenth mile turf contest.

“He's a very nice horse,” Geroux said. “No matter where he comes from, inside or outside, he always seems to rally late. Turning for home, he gave me his best run.”

Weekly statistics for Geroux were 29-9-9-2 for a 31 percent win rate and total purse earning of $912,280.

Geroux out-polled fellow riders Brian Hernandez, Jr. with two stakes wins, Miguel Mena who won the Grade 3 Ohio Derby, Jose Ortiz with two graded stakes wins and John Velazquez also with two stakes wins.

Geroux plans to ride full time at Ellis Park this summer with occasional trips to Saratoga or Del Mar.
