Dettori Picks Up Prince of Arran Ride

Jockey Frankie Dettori will ride Prince Of Arran (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}) in the Red Sea Turf H. at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 20.

A three-time placer in the G1 Melbourne Cup, the Charlie Fellowes trainee is doing well in advance of the $2.5-milllion contest. In his latest start, the gelding was third at Kempton in a two-mile synthetic affair on Feb. 6.

“He's in good nick and I'm looking forward to seeing him out there, hopefully the journey goes well,” Fellowes told ITV Racing. “We've got Frankie up, which will be interesting. He's never ridden him before, but you couldn't have a better jockey in the plate. I'm looking forward to it.”

Deep Impact Filly Stars in Queen Cup

Akaitorino Musume earned her first black-type and group win in the G3 Daily Hai Queen Cup at Tokyo on Saturday. In midfield three paths off the fence through the initial stages, the 4-1 second choice sat six deep through 1000 metres in :58.40. She cruised into contention at the 400-metre mark, took over a furlong from home and withstood the late runs of Art de Vivre and favoured Kukuna to win by a neck. The same margin separated that duo in second and third, respectively, while A Shin Hiten (Jpn) (A Shin Hikari {Jpn}) was another three-quarters of a length back in fourth.

Off the board in a Niigata newcomer affair in August, the dark bay saluted over the same 1600-metre trip in a maiden at Tokyo on Oct. 17. She made it two on the bounce with a score in the Akamatsu Sho there on Nov. 22. Saturday was her sophomore bow.

Pedigree Notes

Akaitorino Musume's victory on Saturday gave her late sire Deep Impact his 169th black-type winner and 135th group winner. Others bred on the cross of Deep Impact over a King Kamehameha mare include G1 Japanese Derby hero Wagnerian (Jpn) and MGSW & MG1SP Denim and Ruby (Jpn).

The fourth runner, winner and first stakes winner for her Japanese dual champion dam, Akaitorino Musume is a full-sister to the MGSP horse Jinambo (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and the GSP Rhinebeck (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Since foaling the winner, 2010 Japanese Filly Triple Crown heroine Apapane has a Black Tide (Jpn) yearling filly and was covered by that sire last spring.

Flatter Colt Strolls in Meydan Unveiling

1st-Meydan, AED82,500, Maiden, 2-13, NH/SH 3yo, c/g, 1600m, 1:37.16, ft.
PANADOL (c, 3, Flatter-Arradoul, by Dixieland Band), making his racecourse bow in this spot, was not the quickest away, but soon established a half-length lead as the field exited the chute. Bowling along and doing it very easily, the blaze-faced colt's advantage shrank on the bend. He was challenged by Anbar (Bodemeister) at the head of the lane, but shrugged off that foe to win going away by 7 3/4 lengths. Endifaa (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}) emerged late to be best of the rest, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Anbar, who held third in a blanket finish.

“He's a nice horse and did it very well today and showed good quality,” said jockey Mickael Barzalona. “At home, I got up on him in his last gallop and I could feel he was very green, but I was very pleased with him [today]. He was very professional. They asked me if I thought he could get farther and I think he can.”

The winner is a half to the SP Backwood Bay (Girolamo), $107,000; Permanent Vacation (Elusive Quality), SP-Ven; and to the dam of SW Celandine (Street Sense), SP Lazarus Project (Discreetly Mine) and GIII Pilgrim S. runner-up J. S. Choice (Congrats). Arradoul has since produced Alarra, a 2-year-old filly by Alpha and was covered by Audible last spring after missing to Runhappy the year prior. This is the extended family of GI Forego S. and GI Alfred G. Vanderbilt S. hero A. P. Indian (Indian Charlie), as well as GII Indiana Derby winner Tiz Shea D (Tiznow). Sales history: $180,000 2yo '20 OBSJUN. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $13,479. Click for the Racing Post chart.

NYRA Offering Spring And Summer Incentives For Fair Hill, Oaklawn-Based Horses

The New York Racing Association (NYRA has announced the return of a shipping incentive program at Aqueduct Racetrack and Belmont Park for horsemen based at Fair Hill Training Center and Oaklawn Park.

Horses stabled in Fair Hill, in Elkton, Md., who register an official start during the Aqueduct spring meet, from April 1 through April 18, or during the Belmont spring/summer meet [from April 22 through July 11] will see their owners credited with an $800 shipping stipend, excluding stakes races.

A first-time starter must have their previous three workouts at Fair Hill to be eligible. NYRA reserves the right to determine eligibility for qualified starters, with each prospective horse needing to demonstrate a pattern of works at Fair Hill in order to ensure eligibility.

The Fair Hill incentive is complemented by “Ship & Win” programs for horses based at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Ark.

Horses that made their previous start at Oaklawn may be able to take advantage of a “Ship & Win” program, which includes a 30 percent purse bonus for their first start for horses who last ran at Oaklawn in 2021 before shipping to New York. NYRA will also provide a $1,500 stipend for a start during either the Aqueduct spring or Belmont spring/summer meets, excluding stakes races, for eligible horses.

First-time starters do not qualify for the Oaklawn Park program. NYRA reserves the right to determine eligibility of qualified starters.

For more information, please contact the racing office at 718-659-4241.
