Nebraska HBPA Expects Casino And Gaming Expansion By 2022

WarHorse Gaming, LLC and the Nebraska Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) are working together to expand casino gaming at three racetracks in the state of Nebraska, according to KNOP News. These will include Horsemen's Park in Omaha, Lincoln Racecourse in Lincoln, and Atokad Park in South Sioux City.

WarHorse Gaming, LLC will be responsible for overall gaming operations and the Nebraska HBPA will continue to oversee all horse racing at the tracks. The two organizations are in the beginning stages of creating a timeline for the expansion and are expecting full casino operations to be up and running during 2022.

The Nebraska HBPA hopes this expansion will mean more involvement from the general public in horse racing in Nebraska, as well as more jobs and a general growth in the state's Thoroughbred industry.

“We are thrilled to partner with a world-class organization like Ho-Chunk, Inc.,” said Nebraska HBPA Executive Vice President Lynne McNally to KNOP News. “It's been a very long process getting to this point, with a lot more yet to do, but we're very much looking forward to what this will do for Nebraska.”

Thoroughbred Connect Update Allows Digital Foal Certificates To Be Utilized In Aftercare Assistance

The Jockey Club Registry announced today that contact information submitted through its Thoroughbred Connect program by those interested in providing aftercare or assistance for a Thoroughbred is now available when a horse's digital certificate of foal registration is accessed by the certificate manager.

Thoroughbred Connect enables anyone with an Interactive Registration (IR) account to express his or her willingness to be contacted by someone in possession of a Thoroughbred in the event the horse is in need of aftercare or assistance. It is also a resource for horse owners to list a Thoroughbred that is in need of aftercare or assistance.

With this update, contact information for those who would like to help a specific Thoroughbred is displayed by default on a horse's digital certificate page. Thoroughbred Connect users can elect to opt out of this setting at any time. Contact information associated with horses born prior to 2018, and who thus might not have a digital certificate, can still be shared with a successful connection made via the Thoroughbred Connect link after logging into IR.

“Adding contact information from Thoroughbred Connect to a horse's digital certificate page ensures that a horse's emergency contact will never be lost or removed and will always be easily accessible to its current digital certificate manager,” said Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club. “We believe this change will facilitate connections to transition Thoroughbreds to new homes when their racing or breeding careers are over.”

“We at Herringswell Stables believe in the importance of ensuring that Thoroughbreds are cared for at all stages of their lives and have attached our contact information to physical copies of foal papers for years,” said Graham Motion. “We are excited to take advantage of The Jockey Club Registry's update to Thoroughbred Connect, which replicates the purpose of stickers and stamps in the age of digital certificates.”

“We commend The Jockey Club for their aftercare initiatives and their efforts to help horses transition to careers beyond the racetrack or breeding shed,” Staci Hancock of Stone Farm said. “From the Thoroughbred Incentive Program and “Transferred as Retired from Racing” designation to this most recent update to Thoroughbred Connect, we thank The Jockey Club for looking out for the welfare of Thoroughbreds and promoting their potential as sport, pleasure, and therapy horses.”

Since its introduction in May 2011, more than 3,500 users have signed up for Thoroughbred Connect, and there are currently more than 8,600 horses in the system that have at least one customer who has provided contact information to indicate their willingness to provide aftercare assistance.

Classic Getaway Equals Record

For the second time in a month at Yorton Farm, a record for a point to point horse was reached on Thursday when Classic Getaway (Ire) (Getaway {Ger}) (lot 7) matched the £570,000 made by Jonbon at the Goffs UK November P2P Sale. Classic Getaway was one of 31 horses offered at the Goffs UK December P2P Sale, and he was bought by Tom Malone and Gordon Elliott.

Five horses were sold for six figure sums on the day, and also among those was Queens River (GB) (Kayf Tara {GB}) (lot 14), another debut winner who was knocked down to Kieran McManus for £330,000, which makes her the highest-priced P2P filly to be sold by Goffs.

In all, 24 horses (78% of the offerings) were sold for an aggregate of £2,239,000, an average of £93,292 and a median of £52,500.

Following the conclusion of the sale, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “What a day. It’s fair to say that the results of today’s sale have far exceeded expectations and we would like to thank everyone who has participated in the success of this sale. We were delighted with the strength of the catalogue, but to equal the world record price whilst smashing the average and median achieved here last month is beyond anything that we could have imagined. This has been an incredible year that we will remember for so many different reasons.

“Once again, we would like to thank James and Jean Potter, David Futter and his team for hosting us here at Yorton Farm and Stud. There is no doubt that vendors and purchasers have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities offered at this unique location and we are delighted to finish the Goffs UK year on a high. We would also like to thank all of our vendors for their incredible support and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Doncaster at the end of January, which is where it all began earlier this year with a top price of £370,000.”
