Best Goes To $1.95M for GISW Concrete Rose
Larry Best continued his spending spree during the early stages of breeding stock sales season, going to a session-leading $1.95 million to secure 2019 GI Belmont Oaks Invitational S. winner Concrete Rose (Twirling Candy) at Keeneland November Monday. The 4-year-old filly, a daughter of GI Humana Distaff S. runner-up Temple Street (Street Cry {Ire}), was consigned to the sale by Lane’s End as agent for Ashbrook Farm and BBN Racing as hip 216 and took Best’s purchases Monday to four horses for gross receipts of $4.54 million. Best also signed for four horses Sunday night at Fasig-Tipton for $2.45 million. Concrete Rose, trained by Rusty Arnold for the aforementioned partnership, won her first two career starts, including Keeneland’s GII Jessamine S. and suffered her lone defeat to date when eighth in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. She ran the table in four starts as a sophomore, winning the GIII Florida Oaks and GIII Edgewood S. ahead of the Belmont Oaks. Concrete Rose, who was offered as a racing/broodmare prospect, was last seen rolling home in the Saratoga Oaks in August 2019.

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Mixed Catalog Online
A total of 204 horses of all ages, including broodmares, yearlings and weanlings, have been cataloged for the main section of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Mixed Sale to be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.
“As the last mixed sale of the calendar year, Midlantic December annually provides quality buying opportunities for both regional and national breeding and racing operations,” said Midlantic Director of Sales Paget Bennett. “This year’s catalogue offers large groups of in-foal mares and weanlings that should be attractive draws to prospective buyers.”
For the fourth consecutive year, the sale will include a Horses of Racing Age supplement, for which the company has already accepted 50 horses. Entries remain open for the supplement through Friday, Nov. 13.
“The Horses of Racing Age supplement has become an exciting component of this sale, providing buyers and sellers a proven venue to trade racehorses in our Midlantic-rich racing region,” noted Bennett.
Click here to view the online catalog. Print catalogs will be available later this week and the sale will feature online and phone bidding. The catalog will also be available in the equineline sales catalog app.

War of Will Retired, to Stand for $25,000 at Claiborne
Classic winner and dual-surface multiple Grade I winner War of Will (War Front–Visions of Clarity {Ire}, by Sadler’s Wells) has been officially retired and arrived at the Hancock family’s Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky., Monday morning to prepare for the 2021 breeding season. War of Will will stand for $25,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
Trained by Mark Casse for Gary Barber, War of Will burst onto the Triple Crown trail last year with consecutive wins in the GIII LeComte S. and the GII Risen Star S. before capturing the GI Preakness S. Switched to the lawn this year, he added the GI Maker’s Mark Mile S. at Keeneland, a victory that put the versatile bay in rarified air with Grade I victories on both the dirt and turf. War of Will also placed in the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile S. this year, the GI Pennsylvania Derby last year, and the GI Summer S. at two. Last seen off the board in Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, he retires with a record of 18-5-1-3 and earnings of $1,881,803.
War of Will, who is out of a half-sister to European champion, Breeders’ Cup winner, and sire Spinning World (Nureyev), will be available for inspection by breeders Wednesday, Nov. 11.
