Whitney winner White Abarrio has been in Southern California preparing for the Breeders' Cup Classic since mid-September, but his training plans were interrupted last week, reports the Daily Racing Form.
White Abarrio arrived at Santa Anita in mid-September and worked Sept. 20, a five-furlong drill completed in 1:00.80. The 4-year-old son of Race Day was scheduled to breeze again last week, but track veterinarians were unsatisfied with his condition and did not allow the work to go forward.
Over the weekend, farrier Ian McKinlay worked on White Abarrio; trainer Rick Dutrow, Jr. did not elaborate on last week's cancelation, but said he supported the vets' decision.
On Monday, White Abarrio was allowed to breeze and covered five furlongs in 1:01.60 under jockey Emily Ellingwood.
“It looks like he went good to me,” Dutrow told DRF. “It was a good call, if there was anything. To be safe, we gave him a day or two to come around. He did.”
