‘Trying To Find A Couple More Lengths’: Asmussen Will Add Blinkers To Disarm For Travers

Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen will add blinkers to the equipment of Disarm for the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 26, reports the Daily Racing Form.

The 3-year-old son of Asmussen-trained champion Gun Runner wore the blinkers for a breeze over Saratoga's Oklahoma training track on Monday, working five furlongs in 1:00.19.

“Trying to find a couple more lengths,” Asmussen told DRF. “I like how he responded today and I think he's training exceptionally well.”

Disarm will come into the Travers off a fourth-place finish in the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, in which he was beaten 2 1/4 lengths by champion Forte, also expected to run in the Travers. Prior to that start, Disarm won the G3 Matt Winn at Ellis Park and finished fourth in the G1 Kentucky Derby.
