Spendthrift Farm freshman sire Vino Rosso is well-represented with his first crop in the 2023 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, with 40 entered in the signature catalog of the North American juvenile auction season.

Throughout the week, we will be speaking with consignors about the Vino Rosso 2-year-olds they have entered in the OBS Spring Sale catalog, with photos and videos of the spotlight horses, and notes on their pedigrees.

Vino Rosso, an 8-year-old son of Curlin, stands at Spendthrift Farm for an advertised fee of $15,000.

Vino Rosso won won six of 15 starts and earned $4,803,125 on the racetrack. In addition to his signature Breeders' Cup Classic score, the stallion picked up victories in the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes, and the G2 Wood Memorial Stakes. He was a First-Team member of the 2022-23 All-Value Sire Team in “The Freshman” position.

The third foal out of the unraced Beautissimo, whose first foal to race is a winner. The dam is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Two Thirty Five.

Bred in Florida, this filly's extended family features champion Halfbridled, Grade 1 winner Mshawish, and Grade 2 winner Lu Ravi.

She breezed an eighth of a mile in :9 4/5 seconds on Sunday during the under-tack show.

Jimbo Gladwell, Top Line Sales: “She's a very nice filly, just a lovely disposition, great mover on the track. She walks like a panther. She had a half-brother that brought $650,000 last year, and she may be as good or better than him.”

This New York-bred colt is out of the unplaced Medaglia d'Oro mare Lauded, who is the dam of one winner from two foals to race.

Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus and Preakness Stakes winner Pine Bluff highlight the colt's page, which also includes Grade 1 winners Demons Begone and Street Fancy, as well as Grade 3 winner Brave Tin Soldier.

Jimbo Gladwell, Top Line Sales: “He prepped really good. He's got great action and plenty of speed. The one thing this sire seems to be throwing is good-moving, efficient horses, and that tends to bode well for their soundness down the road. Hopefully that's something where these horses will go on and keep running,”

Jimbo Gladwell, Top Line Sales: “He's a very precocious-looking and balanced colt. He likes to do his job. Just a very athletic colt, and if he's any indication of what the sire can throw, they have a shot at being early.”
