Group 1 Winner Inspiral To Miss The 1000 Guineas

Cheveley Park Stud's Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), one of the leading fancies for the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 1, will miss the race, according to the owners' managing director Chris Richardson. The John and Thady Gosden trainee is a perfect four-for-four, with black-type victories in the Listed Star S. in June, the Sept. 9 G2 May Hill S. and the Oct. 8 G1 Fillies' Mile to end her season.

“John Gosden had an in-depth discussion with the boss, Mrs. Thompson, and following that, it was decided that, sadly, she would miss the 1000 Guineas,” Richardson said on Sunday.

“John Gosden feels she wasn't really ready for the race and when you receive that advice from a trainer such as John, you follow it and now we'll look to the [G1] Coronation S. at Royal Ascot [on June 17] as part of her programme.

“It is disappointing for all concerned, but we must heed their advice. Royal Ascot is a favoured meeting of the Thompsons and we've had success there previously, it's the start of the year and we've still got lots of opportunities going forward.”

Also out of the 1000 Guineas is Saeed Al Tayer's Group 2 heroine Zain Claudette (Ire) (No Nay Never). A winner at second asking, the chestnut ran out a narrow victress of the G3 Princess Margaret S. at Royal Ascot last June. Sent to York for her next outing in August, she stalked and pounced to win the G2 Lowther S. by a measured length, prior to an unplaced run in the wake of likely Guineas favourite Tenebrism (Caravaggio) in the G1 Cheveley Park S. at Newmarket.

“We've brought her back to training and she is very well, she had some very good races last year,” said trainer Ismail Mohammed. “She is not going to the Guineas, we've pulled her out. We will have so many options for her, so we will see where to go with her.

“It could be Royal Ascot, there are many races for her. I want to find at least one good race for her over seven furlongs before we go for a mile.”

Cheveley Park Field Features Supplements Eve Lodge and Corazon

Mathis Stables LLC's Eve Lodge (GB) (Ardad {Ire}) has been supplemented for £20,000 to the G1 Cheveley Park S. at Newmarket on Sept. 25. A winner of the G3 Sirenia S. over the Kempton all-weather ahead of Wings of War (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) and Hierarchy (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), later one-two in the G2 Mill Reef S. on Sept. 18, the filly brings the field to 15 for the six-furlong contest.

Trainer Charlie Fellowes said, “The owners have been brilliant–they've put no pressure on her running but have said we'll see what happens with the weather through the week and go from there.

“I was a bit worried about what she beat at Kempton, but it turns out I need not have been–with them being first and second in the Mill Reef.

“You don't get to run in Cheveley Parks very often. She's a very good filly, we've always felt that, so providing the ground isn't too quick I see no reason why we won't take our chance.

“The rain on Sunday helped, and there is the possibility of showers later in the week.”

Another Cheveley Park S. supplement was George Boughey's Corazon (Ire) (Markaz {Ire}), who saluted in the G3 Prix d'Arenberg on Sept. 2 and was third in the G2 Flying Childers S. on Sept. 10. Boughey will also saddle Thunder Love (GB) (Profitable {Ire}).

The four-for-four Sacred Bridge (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}), who won the G3 Round Tower S., flies the flag for Juddmonte and Ger Lyons. Ismail Mohammed's Zain Claudette (Ire) (No Nay Never) enters on the back of victories in the G3 Princess Margaret S. in July and the G2 Lowther S. in August. Sandrine (GB) (Bobby's Kitten), who won the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge S. and three-time group-placed Desert Dreamer (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) were second and third, respectively in the Lowther.

Mohammed said, “She's in very good form–we worked her on Monday on the all weather, and she is flying. She's in good nick up to now–we'll work her on grass on Wednesday too. She's changed a lot since the Group 2 and she's doing very, very well.

“You will 100% see her in the Cheveley Park next.”

Group winners Velocidad (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}), successful in the G2 Airlie Stud S. from the yard of Joseph O'Brien and G3 Prix de Cabourg victress Have A Good Day (Ire) (Adaay {Ire}) have also signed up. Listed winner Flotus (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Ire}) and the winning Tenebrism (Caravaggio) will also take part.

Lowther Glory For No Nay Never’s Zain Claudette

Improving again off her success in the G3 Princess Margaret S. at Ascot July 24, Saeed Al Tayer's Zain Claudette (Ire) (No Nay Never) made the three-pound penalty of Sandrine (GB) (Bobby's Kitten) tell as she denied that G3 Albany S. and G2 Duke of Cambridge S. winner by a length in Thursday's G2 Sky Bet Lowther S. at York. Always in the perfect spot closely tracking the pace, the 6-1 shot was delivered on the front end by Ray Dawson with a furlong remaining as Kirsten Rausing's previously-unbeaten 6-5 favourite was playing catch-up from rear. Despite the inroads made by the market-leader, Zain Claudette was maintaining her momentum to provide trainer Ismail Mohammed and her young jockey with a career highlight. Desert Dreamer (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) ran another honest race and finished two lengths away in third, with Oisin Murphy's saddle slipping late on when she was already held. “She's so straightforward and really relaxed, she's a dream of a filly,” the winning jockey said. “She's just so tough, she gives you 150% and is getting better and better. I thought there would be a little bit too much pace for me early on, but she pinged the stalls and travelled so sweetly I didn't want to take her back. This is her trip for now, but she will get further and I struggled to pull her up.”

Campaigned solely at this trip so far, Zain Claudette was a neck runner-up on debut to the subsequent G2 Prix Robert Papin third Hellomydarlin (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) at Goodwood June 11 before opening her account at Newmarket June 25 and nosing out Desert Dreamer at Ascot. Granted an ideal lead under cover from Outside World (GB) (Iffraaj (GB) and Nymphadora (GB) (No Nay Never) here, the chestnut showed more early pace than in the Princess Margaret and that ultimately told as Sandrine was always struggling to pick up her rivals on this flat, fast terrain. Ismail Mohammed is eyeing the obvious next step. “The [G1] Cheveley Park S. [at Newmarket Sept. 25] will be next,” he said. “She has won three times now over six furlongs, but I don't think she is only a sprinter. I asked the jockey if she could stay further and he said 'no problem', so next year, we will go for the 1000 Guineas.”

Anna Lisa Balding said of Sandrine, “She slightly stumbled coming out of the stalls, but you can't take anything away from the winner who has done it well. We'll stick to Plan A and head to the Cheveley Park next. The only reason we came here with the penalty was because we felt it was just too long between races, we had to do something. She'll have a little bit of a freshen up now. David [Probert] said she ran really well and that it was just the penalty that beat her. She was also having to come widest of all. She's done little wrong, is a lovely filly and while it is always sad when you lose an unbeaten record, they have to be beaten sometimes.”

Zain Claudette was one of the cheaper purchases by her sire when costing only £20,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale. She is the first foal out of the unraced Claudette (Speightstown), whose dam Tippity Witch (Affirmed) annexed the GIII Martha Washington S. and is kin to the triple Listed Abergwaun S.-winning sprinter Senor Benny (Benny the Dip). A granddaughter of the listed scorer and GII Diana H.-placed Senora Tippy (El Gran Senor), Claudette's yearling filly by Exceed and Excel (Aus) is catalogued I the upcoming Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.

No Nay Never’s Zain Claudette Gets Up In The Princess Margaret

Entering Saturday's G3 Princess Margaret Keeneland S. off an impressive maiden win over this six-furlong trip at Newmarket June 25, Saeed Al Tayer's Zain Claudette (Ire) (No Nay Never) was produced in the nick of time by the young weighing room talent Ray Dawson to nose out Desert Dreamer (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) in a brief rainstorm at Ascot. Held up towards the rear early racing alongside the eventual runner-up, the 15-2 shot came stand's side of the pack while that 9-4 favourite was taken far side in what amounted to a pincer movement. While it looked as if the G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. runner-up had done enough to shed her bridesmaid status as she mastered Delmona (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) late, it was Zain Claudette who came out of eyesight to put her nose down marginally ahead for the photo. “She's a lovely filly and is doing very well,” trainer Ismail Mohammed said. “With each of her runs, she is improving. We're planning to go for some big races with her now.”

Zain Claudette, a bargain £20,000 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale graduate who was a neck runner-up on debut to the subsequent G2 Prix Robert Papin third Hellomydarlin (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) at Goodwood June 11, is the first foal out of the unraced Claudette (Speightstown).
