CTHS Ontario Canadian Premier Yearling Sale Catalog Now Online

The catalog for the 2021 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) Canadian Premier Yearling Sale is now online, featuring 242 horses on offer.

The auction will take place Wednesday, Sept. 1 at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Rexdale, Ontario. Inspections will begin on Monday, Aug. 30.

All of the sale's entries are Ontario-breds, eligible to run in a restricted sales stakes program valued at over CAN$6.7 million.

Stallions whose first yearlings are represented in the catalog include Amis Gizmo, Collected, Conquest Farenheit, Danish Dynaformer, McCraken, Mor Spirit, Ransom the Moon, Seattle Serenade, Sharp Azteca, and West Coast.

Online bidding will be available for the auction, with information on signing up and bidding available on the CTHS Ontario website.

Woodbine: Capacity-Limited Queen’s Plate Tickets Go On Sale This Week

Woodbine Entertainment today announced tickets for The 162nd Queen's Plate, the first jewel of the 2021 OLG Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, will be available through a pre-sale on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, and will go on-sale to the general public on Friday, July 30, 2021.

The 162nd running of The Queen's Plate will take place on Sunday, August 22 at Woodbine Racetrack. A fashion-forward day at the races, The Queen's Plate festivities include live entertainment, unique dining experiences and world-class horse racing.

Contested for a purse of $1 million, The Queen's Plate is North America's oldest continuously-run stakes event, showcasing Canada's top 3-year-old Thoroughbreds.

Annually one of Toronto's must-attend events of the summer, the 2021 Queen's Plate will focus on an enhanced experience for the limited guests who are welcomed to Woodbine Racetrack.

OLG Returns As Title Sponsor Of Canadian Triple Crown

OLG has been a longstanding sponsor of the Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, providing support for Canada's biggest horse races including The Queen's Plate (August 22), the Prince of Wales Stakes (September 14) and the Breeders' Stakes (October 3).

The $1 million 162nd Queen's Plate stakes is the first leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and occurs on Sunday, August 22, 2021. The race takes place on Woodbine's Tapeta racing surface and is North America's oldest continuously-run stakes event, showcasing Canada's top three-year-old Thoroughbreds at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.

The 86th running of the $400,0000 Prince of Wales Stakes is set for Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The second leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is performed on dirt surface at Fort Erie Race Track in Fort Erie.

Contested on Woodbine Racetrack's renowned E.P. Taylor Turf Course, the final leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is the $400,000 130th Breeders' Stakes on Sunday, October 3.

With Loosening Travel Restrictions, Woodbine Readies For U.S. Participants

With lucrative stakes races approaching and travel restrictions loosening, Woodbine Entertainment is ready to welcome participants from the United States to Woodbine Racetrack.

As of Aug. 9, 2021, Canada will begin allowing entry to American citizens and permanent residents, who are currently residing in the United States, and have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to entering Canada for non-essential travel.

Fully vaccinated travelers will not have to quarantine upon arrival in Canada. Any unvaccinated travelers entering Canada will be required to quarantine for 14 days, unless granted a quarantine exemption.

All travelers arriving in Canada are required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test conducted within the prior 72 hours. Woodbine will also seek proof of this negative COVID-19 test for its own records.

August and September mark the richest months of racing during the 2021 Woodbine Thoroughbred season with more than $8 million in stakes to be contested plus additional world-class racing opportunities. With this significant part of the racing season nearing, owners, trainers and jockeys from the United States should familiarize with the new Canada border measures ahead of its reopening on Aug. 9. An “Entering Canada Checklist” can be found by clicking here.

Ahead of the Aug. 9 border reopening, any individual coming from outside Canada seeking immediate access to Woodbine Racetrack will be permitted if a quarantine exemption is granted and a negative COVID-19 test is provided. Those individuals will be enrolled in Woodbine's Enhanced Screening Program.
