Harris Withdraws Appeal Regarding Licensing Committee’s Ruling

After appealing the British Horseracing Authority (BHA)'s ruling regarding his licence last week, former trainer Milton Harris has now withdrawn that appeal, the BHA confirmed on Wednesday.

Harris had his licence suspended in November and withdrawn in January by the BHA's Licensing Committee. The agency ruled he was not a “fit and proper person” to hold a training licence.

Regarding the BHA's concerns, the Licensing Committee said, they surrounded “the nature and extent of MH's admitted breaches of the conditions which already exist on his licence, which were imposed in 2018 and MH's failure to be candid in his dealings with the BHA in respect of those breaches, particularly when the BHA was seeking to provide opportunities for MH to remedy those breaches”, “misconduct in his dealings with others, including fellow licence holder Mr Simon Earle” and “in respect of safeguarding arising out of MH's conduct with young persons employed at his racing yard”.

Harris began training in 2001 but ceased training from 2011 to 2018 due to financial issues.

Injury Curtails Sir Bob Parker’s G1 Cazoo Derby Run

Sir Bob Parker (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) will not travel to Epsom to contest the G1 Cazoo Derby on Saturday week as he has been injured, according to trainer David Menuisier. The Michael Watt-owned colt won at second asking at Chantilly in April and was third in the G2 Prix Greffulhe to Onesto (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) on May 8.

“Sad to report our Derby hope Sir Bob Parker has sustained an injury today [Saturday] which will see him out of action for a little while,” Menuisier tweeted on Saturday. “So close, but so far from the dream race.”

Just under a score of colts remain in the Blue Riband, with Sir Michael Stoute's undefeated G2 Dante S. hero Desert Crown (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) leading the betting, with Aidan O'Brien's G3 Derby Trial S. victor Stone Age (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) close behind.

Love Withdrawn From Arc With Temperature

Multiple Group 1 winner Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) has been withdrawn from the 2021 G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after developing a temperature on Saturday afternoon. One of three for the Coolmore partners entered in Sunday's ParisLongchamp showpiece alongside Snowfall (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Broome (Ire) (Australia {GB}), the 4-year-old filly, who has five Group 1 wins to her name, was most recently second in the G2 Blandford S. at The Curragh on Sept. 12. With her withdrawal, the Arc field is reduced to 14. In 2020, the chestnut was also forced to miss the Arc, although that was due to contaminated feed.

Telecaster Withdrawn From Arc After Setback, 15 Horses Remain

Castle Down Stud’s MGSW Telecaster (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) has been withdrawn from Sunday’s G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after a setback. The Hughie Morrison trainee was set to receive his favoured soft going, as more rain fell in Paris overnight and the forecast calls for more wet weather later this week in the Paris area. The 2019 G2 Dante S. winner relished the heavy going in the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville when last seen on Aug. 30.

“It’s a real shame, but this is what can happen with horses–he’s just wasn’t 100% sound this morning,” said Castle Down Stud’s Mark Weinfeld. “We’re absolutely gutted. It’s nothing too serious, but it’s just sod’s law.

“He’s in the G1 Champion S. at Ascot [on Oct. 17]–and as I haven’t heard what the vet has said, I’m not sure if he’ll make that or not. We just need to know what the problem is. It would be nice if he made Ascot, because that is likely to be soft ground too. It’s rather deflated the week, though.”

Weinfeld added, “I think he’ll probably stay in training next year. “I was hoping we’d have had a good offer from a stud by now–but nothing has come yet, so we could continue next year and hope for a wet year. We’re all very disappointed. But the horse is in one piece, and we live to fight another day.”

Other defectors at this entry stage are: G1 St Leger winner Logician (GB) (Frankel {GB}) for Juddmonte and John Gosden, and Joseph O’Brien’s quintet of Buckhurst (Ire) (Australia {GB}), Crossfirehurricane (Kitten’s Joy), Thames River (GB) (Free Eagle {Ire}), Degraves (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) and New York Girl (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}), leaving a field of 15.

Dual Arc heroine Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) is now favoured over brilliant Classic heroine Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), as ground conditions continue to worsen.
