Racing at Aqueduct Canceled Sunday

The New York Racing Association has canceled Sunday's live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack due to the continued impact of the powerful winter storm currently ongoing in the New York City metropolitan area.

The National Weather Service forecast, which aligns with NYRA's independent weather services, is calling for continued heavy snow through 4 p.m. with areas of blowing snow before 4 a.m.  As a result, NYRA officials made the decision to cancel Sunday's card in the interest of the safety of all participants.

Aqueduct Racetrack will be open for simulcasting Sunday. Live racing at Aqueduct will resume Thursday, Feb. 3.

Extreme Cold: Oaklawn, Aqueduct Cancel Friday Racing

Due to extreme cold temperatures in the region, both Oaklawn Park and Aqueduct Racetrack will cancel racing on Friday, Jan. 21.

Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark. will cancel both training and racing on Friday.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures as low as 16 degrees (F) on Thursday night, with a high of just 35 on Friday. Wind chills on Friday could be as low as 7.

According to the track's Twitter feed, the goal is to resume racing and training on Saturday, Jan. 22, with post time Saturday afternoon moved to a 1:00 PM (Central) start time.

Normal schedules are expected to resume on Sunday, Jan. 23.

Snowstorm Causes Friday Cancellations At Aqueduct, Laurel Park

A snowstorm moving from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast on Thursday night and Friday morning has led to racing cancellations at Aqueduct in New York and Laurel Park in Maryland. Laurel's cancellation also means the multi-track Stronach 5 wager will be cancelled

Aqueduct
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled Friday's live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack due to a winter storm currently impacting the New York metropolitan area.

New York City remains under a winter weather advisory, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting continued high winds and heavy snow into Friday afternoon. As a result, NYRA has canceled Friday's eight-race card in the interest of the safety of all participants.

Live racing at Aqueduct will resume on Saturday, January 8 with a nine-race card headlined by the $100,000 Say Florida Sandy. First post on Saturday is 12:20 p.m. Eastern.

Laurel Park
The Maryland Jockey Club has canceled Friday's live nine-race program at Laurel Park after a winter storm swept through the area overnight and into the morning.

As a result the national weekly Stronach 5 wager, which was scheduled to open with Laurel's ninth race, has also been cancelled and will return Friday, Jan. 14.

Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft and the MJC OTB Network remain open for simulcasting.

Live racing is scheduled to return to Laurel with a nine-race program Saturday that features the return of 2021 Runhappy Barbara Fritchie (G3) winner Hibiscus Punch in Race 8, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares 4 and up.

First race post time is 12:25 p.m.

Winter Storm Forces Thursday Cancellations At Laurel Park, Charles Town

The Maryland Jockey Club has canceled Thursday's nine-race program at Laurel Park because of the lingering effects of a winter storm earlier in the week that brought rounds of sleet, freezing rain and snowfall to the area.

Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft and the MJC OTB Network remain open for simulcasting.

Live racing is set to resume Friday with a nine-race program with first race post of 12:25 p.m.

Due to the winter weather moving through the region later today, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in West Virginia has cancelled its live racing program for Thursday evening, Jan. 6. Live racing is currently slated to resume on Friday, Jan. 7 with a first race post time of 7:00 P.M. EST.
